I am in the process of fixing my melted piston and this video is absolutely invaluable to me! Once my bike is up and running, any upgrades I buy will definitely be from you guys. Thanks!
+armoredpig
Glad to hear the videos are helping you. ;-)
thank you guys for taking the time to do and upload this😄, thinking about purchasing a 2017 Grom real soon😎
Very welcome. Thank you for chiming in.
People like you are a DIY' guy's dream!
Well done video! Perfectly paced, well-explained and clearly shown.
This is in my "Mototech" playlist!
Thanks again!!
Thank you very much for the kind words.
These are great videos! I do wish they were taken with a better camera, but it was done very well and I really like that you didn't skip any steps to speed up the video. Anyone could do this kit after watching this video. Thanks!
Thanks for the post.
We actually did get a better camera in our later videos. ;-)
i have never seen anyone torque head bolts in one tightening, this could cause the head to meet the cylinder unevenly, it should be a 3 step process
No gapping of the ring needed?
Wait are the rings pre gapped? I didn't see ya measure the rings
Rings come pre-gapped?
did you not gap the rings?
Can I make this without remap the ECU? Thanks.
You definitely need a new fuel controller and Proper A/F Ratio to run any BBK.
how much does this reduce fuel econmy
Are the rings pre gapped or not??
i have rebuilt alot of engines in my life small and large and never broke a ring. but for some reason it scares me to do it. but question will this kit fit on a trail 125 and if so what else will i need to make it run right.
Thank you for the video as I plan on doing this to my '17 but only the 143cc. Was there a reason why you din't change the cam or do you think the factory cam is sufficient? Really enjoy watching your videos and are very helpful!
at the time of this video this was all that was available. Eventually we also put the camshaft in as well to get more power.
Great video very helpfull I just have a question about what torque wrench do you recomend to do this work?
I hope you can recomend me one thanks a lot.
Amazon has some nice ones at a good price.
Should get 2 or 3, to cover the entire range.
FYI 12 Inch/lb = 1 lb/ft

Stupid question. On the base gasket when you said green side up, are you positive the tan side wasn't wax paper? Like a peel and stick gasket? I may be crazy though but I've seen them that way. Nice tutorial btw.
We are sure there is no wax paper on the gasket.
Very nice!
Is a pistol how many mm?
You guys gonna get a topspeed up for the bore kit with optimised gearing.
We did actually.
With 16t Front Sprocket, we were able to get 75.3 mph at 8150 rpm
.
Thanks for the info still a little low on speed for the cc.
I run a monkey bike with a Daytona 190 and was hoping the msx maybe around the same speed with the bore kit but looks like the head holds it back.
nc30guy 100% correct. The 181 BBK makes 50-70% more Power EVERYWHERE, until about 8500 where it comes back down. It's definitely, restricted by the head.
Of course, we still don't have the CAM installed yet.
Pretty sure that will help some with longer valve open duration.
+nc30guy I wouldn't want to go faster than 70 on a bike this size.. if you want faster I'm sure there's plenty other cool bikes
Jesse Guerrero
My bike is way smaller and is pretty fast.
Honestly how reliable is this kit w/cam and with the stock Crank/Rod. Is it something i should be worried about? not racing the bike just normal fun riding. I already have pcv with exhaust and modded airbox/K&N.
When run properly at stock RPMS, and a PCV/ WBC2 controlling the A/F Ratio. Keeping temps correct.
Shouldn't be any issues
There are thousands of these BBK across the globe.
Thank you. Most likely gonna buy this one or the 143 kit!!
is no ignition advance when you change your valves where the marks are at tdc?
You do NOT want ignition advance with a BBK.
i dont understand this it explains nothing you guys say remove ignition advance what is ignition advance
you remove it with the fuel controller software
Would the install be similar for the 143 kit?
Ded Rabbit I should think that it’s the exact same process
How much does this kit increase the compression ratio to?
racernate02 12.1 : 1
How fast does the Grom go MPH after 180cc BBK?
ours went 85.9 mph
HardRacing how do you remove all ignition advance?
With the Dyno Jet PCV
Mitch tedeschi by removing all the ignition advance what will that do to the Bike?? What is the reasoning for when you move it?
detonation will occur if you dont not remove timing advancement. YOU WILL MELT YOUR PISTON
Where did u bought it?
HardRacing.com :-)
Never saw you put the piston pin roller connecting rod bearing in...??? Looking at Hondapartshouse.com there is no piston pin roller bearing for this model and application. I only asked because there is one on a CR 250 piston ( www.hondapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053e4e3f870021c54be2186/crankshaft #7 on the diagram)
There is no Roller Bearing on the Grom. Yes, on a CR 250 there is..but that's a totally different bike and motor..
What happened to the hottie that was helping you?
LOL.. she comes back around 20:00 in... and finishes the install.
I would of used ATF to clean the bore than sprayed it with wd40 instead of assembly lube.
@@crispindry2815 it also attracts moisture.
ok guys I need some help. I just bought a brand new 2018 grom and I road it about two times before I started with the mods. so far (thanks to hard racing) I have these mods....takegawa 181cc big bore, opmid head temp gauge, high performance cam, cumera air intake dynojet power commander, and a 16th front sprocket, high rise protaper handlebars. but the problem is at 2000-4000 RPM"s (first half of the throttle) its really sluggish and cuts out. and a little bit of backfire from the intake. but if I hit the throttle when its at a higher RPM all the power is there. I have tried all the maps from dynojet and it still does it. but they don't have a setting for a big bore motor. if anybody has any input please reply. thanks guys.
We sent you an email with the map ? Did you get it ?
HardRacing no I didn’t
hmm.. please send an email to our sales dept. and they will send the map again
HardRacing I just sent my email to the sales receipt from where I just bought my injector for you guys and by the way the injector made a big difference. Thanks again.
Got it. Reply.
I don't really care about top speed or max hp, but I would really like to comfortably cruise at around 55-60 long distance. Is this a good kit for that? or is this a kit for someone with a small dick complex who just wants to do wheelies and burnouts for girls that don't care?
LMAO.............This is the perfect kit for you.
It turns the bike into a thumper. Like a Diesel. Monster power and torque everywhere. Specially low end and mid range (real world). You don't have to rev the crap out of it.
HardRacing Great! Have you guys installed the camshaft that comes with it? or is the stock one working just fine?
Michael Lindenburger Yea, we are still running STOCK Cam. Which works just fine.
Highly recommended to also add the 16t Front, at checkout.... only - $7.99
what you doo doo
nice job installing piston rings without oil great job wtf and then you tell us carefully don't scratch the piston... if there is a chance that it will be scratched if you have oil in the way you set up there are 100 probabilities you have to open your book again....
