Mobs in Australia want to charge 30K + for painting weatherboard homes like this one. Those mobs won't do the job anywhere near as good quality as this guy. Very good example, mate. Big thumbs up!
Thank you, yes that building is around the 20-25k price range to paint. This is my own property so I'm taking a few shortcuts as it's an unoccupied building.
@@ThePa1nterhowto Thanks for your reply. I've just started repainting our weatherboard Queenslander, built in '41. Timber is generally good and I've used the techniques you showed us in your vids, so cheers. Can you tell me if you paint the bottom edge (butt) of the boards with a brush? It might be in one of your vids, but maybe I missed it. Thanks for your help sir.
@@jamiecox2506 yes bottoms get painted with a brush ,very important in your first coat.

ThePa1nter many thanks again for your reply and for sharing your expertise.
Hi Gregory, been watching all your content, very informative. What type of roller sleeve did you use on this house? About to start my own home and want to save some time and money painting. Cheers.
They are just a cheap 4" mini roller sleeve like these in this listing, Works well with acrylic, no good for oil-based as it can leave lint behind.

@@ThePa1nterhowto Thanks Gregory, I plan to strip back to bare wood, prime with Dulux oil based then acrylic weathershield. Will source rollers from ebay. Cheers.
Genuine question why not spray it on is there a benefit to rolling
You can spray, brush or roll it. By using the roller im able to force it into the cracks easy where a spray would just sit on top. I feel it's a more solid finish by rolling
how long to take you to finish it. man
That wall double coated and finished in a few hours,
@@ThePa1nterhowto thank you for reply bank man most people don't to me. I don't know why 😅 I'm from NZ good to chat with good heart people to shear you know length. Thanks
How come you don't gap under the weather boards?
We don't gap under hardwood weatherboards because they move and eventually it will look terrible and you have to do repaint. These old houses are like an old yacht, move freely.
Do u lick it finger before wiping the chalking??
Yes I have an apron on to wipe excess and moisten my finger
I'd thought that you'd be spraying bloke..
hoplite101able Spraying has its place and it would be good to spray and roll but im by myself and it took around an hour to roll that entire wall, not a big saving to spray it
ThePa1nter yep I hear you champ..
Why not gap under the boards ?
Phil the brush 12345 You should never gap under weatherboards, treat it like an old yacht, always moving. It would look terrible in a year if you gapped under
ThePa1nter s20 selleys gaps ,bit of flex in it
This is great for most people that don't mind the stippling look. That will happen even with 1/4 nap. For those people that have smooth siding, you need to finish with a brush stroke to have the paint flatten out when dry.
Thats true, but to be honest by using full gloss paint the stipple is very hard to see. This is actually one of my own rental properties but if you want you can apply with a roller and tip off with a brush.
Just use a 3/8 woven nap. Thats what we use to paint doors.
Seems like u just painted over dirt
The weatherboards are power sanded, washed and this is the second coat, first coat was painted by brush.
ThePa1nter ok cool still a cool video g
Never caulk and rub your finger down it,actually rubs the calling unevenly not a good practice to do.
Whatever works is good practice when restoring these old buildings, they are bent and crooked after 60 years so it realy doesnt matter which way you rub your finger. Thanks for commenting,
