If i lived near that place i would live in that place. You could never get me out.
You and me both!
Oh my, how I wish that there would be a thrift store like that in my area. I would be beside myself in happiness! ☺️
Me too!!
I live near a few craft recycle places!! When people tell me sewing is too expensive, I just laugh!! Yesterday I spent $2 on 4 yard of beautiful sweatshirt fabric !! I had to tell my recycle place to raise the prices on patterns (after I organized them) they were 5 cents!!
Oh man, I wish I lived near you!
Thanks Jen for taking us along with you to the Scrap Exchange. A couple of years ago my daughter and I went to Scrap in Portland, which is a similar store. We had so much fun! I let my grandsons pick out grab bags and we had a great time going through those after we got home. It's nice to see things being recycled that might otherwise go to a landfill. Some of my best garments start as unwanted fabric from a thrift store!
It was entirely my pleasure to take you along, Mary!
What fun! That is a whole day trip. The Scrap Exchange is on my bucket list!!
ROAD TRIP! We now have 3 places on the list!
Wow. That was awesome!! I could spend a entire day just in the fabric and notions section!!thanks jen
Right?! If I hadn't had to get on a plane later that afternoon, I would have!
Oh! I moved away from Durham in 2019, and I miss the Scrap Exchange very much! I purged my sewing room (and whole house) for months before the move to Texas. I was please to donate to this organization. I loved shopping there, and scooped up many treasures. Buying at a bargain is positively therapeutic! Thank-you for this video, I love seeing all inspiring stuff.
I love that place so much! Even more, I love that the things I'm buying aren't going into a landfill. They are such a great organization.
The urge to dig is so overwhelming. All of those patterns made my heart rate increase. That place is insane.
Right? And I went thru every one of those patterns in the card fixtures and the plastic containers on the end caps. I did open the first drawer of sleepwear but there wasn't much there, and I didn't care about crafts / men's / kids. Thought I'd never get out of there but man did I score!
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom what fun!
What a wonderful place! So many odd things that some creative people can turn into great and useful pieces, I’ve seen lamps created out of such strange things, but what I loved the most is the second life they give to all sort of things, which is great for the planet, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
They are big big big into recycling and a lot of their message really stresses that. They've really turned the whole thing into a place that benefits everything - the environment, the community, the arts in general. I don't just love the stuff, I love the message and the way it helps. I always say, if you're a primary school teacher and need art supplies, this is your paradise - 😆
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom and mine too, with that mountain of patterns 💗😁
I’m spending my day catching up on all your videos I’ve missed. - I would love to visit that place. What a great place and what a great cause.
Oh man I wish I could go once a week! It's amazing!
Jen... I cant EVEN!!! That raised my blood pressure. I want to go and take an entire day to go through there.
You need an entire day! Although, I had time left over and that was good - probably because I'd been there before and honestly, after awhile it's just information overload. But oh, the treasures. Literally.
What an amazing store! A true crafters paradise :)
Absolutely!
Oh my goodness - the Elna SP sewing machine at 7:07 - I received one of those for my 19th birthday in 1974 (graded up from a treadle machine). It's still going strong, recently serviced and is my back-up machine. But it was in exclusive use for 30 years, made an awful lot of kids clothes, curtains and soft furnishings.
So clearly whoever got rid of the one here was out of their mind. 😜 I've always heard great things about Elna - although I did own an Elna serger that gave me fits. Long time ago, though - like, 1990?
Hi, Jen Carmen here from Florida me and my husband Jeff been in North Carolina before my open heart surgery like 4 or 5 year’s ago we were there my sister in-law had a timeshare and passed down to her daughter. And she let us used for anniversary I was so bored no places to go know me and my husband could go to this fabric exchange store thanks to buy fabric. Thanks Jen from Carmen 💕
Carmen you have to go if you return! It's amazing!
That is an amazing place I’d love to hear more about it please! Your so fortunate to have it 🧵
It IS amazing Janet - wish I lived closer to it!
What a great place; I could spend the whole day. I'm impressed with how neat and organized the store is and prices looked very reasonable. If I'm ever in Durham...
It's definitely worth the trip!
I would go shopping with you anytime! I just want to make sure that we have lots of time. I would enjoy looking at everything. Wow! So much fun!
I wish I could organize a trip there. If only we didn't live everywhere in the world!
Amazing this is torture. We don’t have anything like this in the UK. Thanks for sharing it’s fantastic to see.
Believe me, it's torture living 750 miles south and only being able to go once (or less) a year. I do have a daughter in Charlotte, NC which is 2.5 hours southwest of there, so it's possible when I go to see her. But usually I only get a trip every couple of years. I wish it was more!
That place is unbelievable! My mom had that singer button hole attachment that she used with her singer featherweight and it made the most beautiful buttonholes.
I'm so glad to hear that! I'll have to give it a try next time I use my featherweight.
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom I just watched your other vlog showing what you got, love that you got the buttonhole attachment. When I was little I always thought that the silver buttonhole size pieces looked like peanuts, haha!
Very nice shopping place! Next time I’m in the area I’ll have to check them out! Thank you so much for sharing! 🤗
Oh man you absolutely have to go. Do a video of your spoils because I sure would love to see it! ❤️😘
Oh Wow! You'd never get me out of there! I work with 're cycled fabrics to make bags of all sorts for local shops, (Patchwork Cat)...and my husband works with wood and repairs spinning wheels (The Spin Doctor)...I wish we had such a fab recourse here in Scotland! Love your channel x
Thank you so much! I wish I had one here where I live too - it's 750 miles north so a bit of a long day's drive 😉
Wow what fun and what bargains! Could take my lunch and stay all day
Someday maybe I can schedule a huge meet up and we can all go shopping. Hard since I don't live there but I'd sure make the drive!
What an amazing place!!
Right? It does a ton of good in the community, too!
Love the sewing journey take us there 🤓😇😍
Gah if only. I'd love to rent a bus and take a bunch of us there. Wouldn't that be amazing?
Jen, thanks for showing us the scrap exchange store I don't know if I will ever get to go, but I enjoyed seeing it.
Glad you enjoyed it! I can't wait to go back -
I loved it, I wish we had something similar here in Australia. I would love to see your purchases from the scrap exchange. Thanks Jen. Julie Tasmania Australia.❤️
There are 3 more videos where I show you the fabric and patterns - just check the playlist. And I think you have Achieve Australia (in Sydney and one location north of there) that are similar. Plus your op shops are fantastic!
My husband would hate it if there was a place like that near us as I'd be there every week😁
Come for a vacation and I'll take you!
Wow!
👍
Wow Jen what a great place.
It really is.
Looks like such fun place to visit! MN weaving guild puts on a similar shop one weekend a year. I’d love to go one year.
That would be amazing! And I'm sure it'll be back now that all the restrictions are being lifted.
Oh Jen that was heaven I loved it you are so lucky being able to find all those bargains Will definitely go if i get to NC We have cases in our State so not for now :(
I sure hope you can visit there. Let me know if you do!
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom for sure i think we have relatives in florida
Oh my I could be in there all day!! There is nothing like that here in Utah...that I know of.
It was definitely fabulous! Can't wait to go back.
Wow
Yep. Amazing.
😍 WOW! No words except which is the nearest International Airport to this place!!! 🤣 xx
RDU baby - it's only about 10 minutes away!
Love the journey fab shopping tour 😍🧕🏿
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a cool place and I’m only 10 hours. Road trip!! Come up to Pensacola and we can road trip it! We can fill my Arcadia up!
Done. Gotta get that together, seriously. Wouldn't it be great to organize some kind of trip up there and pretty much clean them out? 😂
Omg I wish I was in your state
I wish I was in that state! I live in FL, this place is in NC.
Omgosh if I lived near that store my husband would never see me!
Me either!
I would lose my mind!
It can be overwhelming but it's amazing!
I’d be in hog heaven! I would look at every single thing.
It's a little overwhelming unless you look at a specific area - but so many treasures!
Where do they get all of these things?
Everything is donated, both by individuals and companies who don't want to send them to landfills. You can read all about them on their website: scrapexchange.org
Where is this place? What state?
Durham, NC
Shame I live too far away.
Me too - about 13 hours drive - but I have to be up there once a year so it's worth it!
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom that's dedication to the cause.
Jealous!!!!
It was amazing!
