(Waves her hands wildly) Hey, Hey, come to Portland. We have Scrap PDX which is Very similar to the place you went to. complete with Zoom crafting sessions and special deals. We also have Pendleton woolen Mills and their associated outlets.(Not that you need wool in Florida, they sell more than wool). If you ever get to the "left" coast I'll be happy to host you and show you around Oregon/Washington which is HEAVY with crafting goodness. We could do a lot of damage here. Just sayin'

What fun finds! I too love to find belting and buckles in the wild. I found an entire roll of belting in the original box, for $5.00, at an antique store last month. My husband just stood there staring at me while I jumped up and down squealing like a little school girl, and then actually asked if I was going to buy it. Gotta love him. I also received McCalls 8199 in a box of patterns given to me recently and yes it is scary.

I loved the emotional damage causing costume. Also enjoying watching your videos (recently found you through another person posting for your walkaway dress challenge), so entertaining.
I wish I had a big 2nd hand fabric/sewing shop around me I’d go weekly! I did have one very VERY lucky thrift find of fabric a few months back. My local thrift store has a very small section for craft stuffs, usually they taped bundles of fabric and slapped a price on, no measuring or anything and you’re not allowed to open it up until you pay. Well one time I went in and there was a HUGE bundled fabric that some kind soul put the measurements on the tape "400” long x 42” wide, $8" I figured it was still cheaper than muslin so even if there are stains etc it was ok. The store had a $5 off sale (that I ddin't know about 'till I was at the register) so instead of $8 it was only $3! I got it home and burned tested: 100% cotton!! Woot love natural fiber! Then I got to open it up measure and analyze it further…. It turned out to be 12 yards of about 44” wide yarn dyed before woven gingham, no damage or stains though a few spots near the salvage had glue residue from tape used to hold the bundle together for decades in someone’s stash, I’d only loose about 2” off the width on 1/2 a yard so not bad. And the salvage edge is very thin, not a different color/thickness than the rest of the fabric, there is no label or color sample on the salvage either. If I cut a piece out I really have to look closely to see which side is the salvage. I guessing it’s from the late 50s to60s from the width...THREE.FREAKING.DOLLARS! I’m still hoarding the fabric trying to figure out what to make with it.

I live in Raleigh and go to Durham once or twice a month to have lunch with a friend; afterward I GO TO THE SCRAP EXCHANGE. You were a month or two early, but I found four rolls of silk for $3.00 per yard! I don't sew silk, but I bought two yards of each color. Also, I sew with a Singer 500, which is a slant shaft machine. Over the years, I've found many specialty feet for my machine there, including an adjustable hemmer foot and a circle stitcher attachment. Also, did you know that Spoonflower, the custom fabric printing company is in Durham?

My favourite dress when I was in high school in the 90's was actually an unfinished object bag that I thought was just forest green 60's paisley fabric, but was an already cut out but not sewn sheath dress. I sewed it up and wore the heck out of that thing

Since we went in October 2019 and I’ve been working 60+ hour weeks since January 2020 (ICU nurse) I will eventually return to normal.

We have a small-ish craft thrift store here, in Iowa, called Create Exchange. It’s run by 2 sisters & hardly anything has a price on it! Sometimes they ask me how much I think I should pay (sometimes I guess too high) & then sometimes they ask me if I think a price is acceptable. Recently bought 2 medium sized cardboard boxes of fabric for $84!! I’ve gotten lace, fabric, yarn, sewing books, a serger sewing machine, little storage containers, plastic with the inside divided into little squares, like for holding beads. They also have a section where crafters can sell their created items! They also have art supplies.

I went to Durham back in the fall for the first time ever, for my dear friend's wedding. (Sidebar: she sewed herself a GORGEOUS vintage wedding dress.) My friend told me I absolutely had to go to Freeman's Creative and I literally spotted the Scrap Exchange from across the parking lot and spent a delightful hour pawing through patterns. I ended up not buying any fabric because of luggage space constraints, (also I had already spent most of my budget at Parker and Otis) but Durham is a charming city and I definitely plan to visit again!

What a fun and slightly dangerous place to shop! Seeing that Paris print makes me think I'd better drag out my tub of vintage home dec fabrics inherited from hubby's grandma. There are a few really weird pieces that are a single ginormous print motif on what I think is rayon. Haven't looked at them in years and have no idea what their original purpose was. They have some kind of maker's tag on them if I recall. My guess is that they are from the 40's or early 50's. I'll have to photograph them and send them to you to see if you have any ideas on what in the world they were intended for.

It was The Scrap Exchange Thrift portion (which is more of a normal thrift store).

Okay, for those of us who are hobbyists and not as knowledgeable as yourself, what the heck is so special about a border print fabric?

Tell me you will be making something with that border print? And filming it? It needs to be something, stat! And the costume patterns...yikes

*Friends.* We're in downtown Ottawa. If someone could please pass this message along to *Enchanted Rose Costumes*, I'd be appreciative:
Enchanted Rose is a fellow Canadian. Many of you might remember that within the past year she compared mask mandates to the Holocaust. She said she would donate money to a Jewish Shoa Charity. She has not done so.
Dear Miss "Rose", APPOLOGIZE. You helped to foster the hate and bigotry and abuse we in the city of Ottawa, capital of this country have had to endure every second of every day. You fostered an environment that encouraged your neighbours to come to this city to harass and intimidate the people who actually live here. Yesterday there was a Nazi in my convenience store - he had the right tattoos.
And then, on Thursday, Feb 3 - you dropped a video about making underwear. Are you absolutely kidding me. You have a responsibility to the harm you have caused.
    Apologize.
    NOW.
    - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

Hey there, as much as I understand the frustration, I am not associated with that creator. I do NOT approve of what she said or did. Please take your frustration to her page, not mine.

@@StephanieCanada Got it. Sorry. It's been a week and I'm sleeping 4 hour a night. The terrorists are double parked outside of our building. I get harrased every time I leave the building. We all are. They have guns.

@@StephanieCanada Unlike the rest of this city, I was born in this town. Tomorrow is going to be counter-protests to the, I think we're still officially calling them "Protesters".
The "Protesters are calling for "blood in the streets" and "hang Tudeau from the crane". I have so many reports into police and bylaw that I've had to start recording them all in my calendar for the eventual rounds of lawsuits that will follow this debacle.
