For anyone who was interested in making the balaclava bigger, I was able to do so by increasing the number of chains in the beginning row. I went up to 30, rather than 24. Then single crocheted and slip stitched BLO per the video to the point where it was a size for the side of my head, and then worked on the top part. Highly recommend working with even numbers because you will decrease (and you’d want enough to decrease the single crochets on the top of your head). Fantastic pattern! I was able to make one for myself and another one (following the exact number from the video) for my dog!
This pattern is fantastic. I made it and it is prettiest balaclava I've ever made. But I want to mention that this pattern is for little kids. It didn't fit my head. But I gave this to my younger sister. If you do this for you , you can start with more chains. Mayben55 chains. It is so cool. You will never regret it❤
I’m gonna make it as she instructs bc it seems to match the same measurements as the previous balaclava I’ve made. Imma hope it fits😂🤞 Edit: I finished this a month ago and it turned out perfect. I used a 4.5 millimeter hook and yarn I had lying around:)
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for the past few months. So glad you posted. Thank you. I am crocheting for some Nigerian students who will appreciate the warmth this winter.

Thank you sooo much for this easy tutorial ! For those who think it’s too small. I also thought in the beginning and when I was doing the front neck part only I didn’t just do 28 rows because I couldn’t get it over my head. I just did as many rows as I needed to get it over my head. After I continued just like in the video and everything worked out well :)
@@KenikseCrochet exactly. I have a rainbow yarn I've been wanting to use for a while and I think this is the perfect project for it. Thank you so much.
First time crocheter and I was able to make this pattern from start to finish! So enjoyable and I love the look of the balaclava. I went up to 50 chains and basically followed the pattern until it was covering the side of my head, switched to working on the top until I had enough length and eyeballed the other side. For the ribbing I did 15 stiches instead of 11 bc I wanted a thicker ribbing look. It turned out great! Would only add that if you have thick hair or tend to wear a bun, take that into account as you are determining the length of the sides and back. Fantastic pattern!
I made this for a friend using acrylic and added fine alapaca. It turned out gorgeous but is a little big through the head area and she ended up rolling the brim up and it actually looks really cute. Your tutorial is very easy to follow as you explain everything in detail. I definitely will make more!

Had this project on hold for some time, finally made it! I can't believe how smart your tutorial is. It took me two days. I'm not a fan of single crochet at all, but for the final result, it's worth it. I will make more! Thank you
AMAZING pattern! I love it, I just finished mine and it looks perfect. Thank you so so much for sharing! For people saying its too small, I used a 5mm hook and it sits a little baggy which I absolutely love.
Here‘s how i made a bigger size of the balaclava: Instead of slip stitches, i did single crochets. And instead of single crochets, i did half-double crochets. At 10:55 I didn’t do a decrease, instead i did 2 slipknots. The neck part at 15:30 I made a bit shorter, but that is easy to change because you just wear it and see how it fits. That‘s it :)
Thank you so much for this lovely tutorial!! The balaclava turned out perfectly and I am so happy with it!! I followed the same number of stitches as in the video and it fits my head perfectly, with enough room to hide my ponytail or bun in the hood without being too tight ❤
Love how this came out! Very layered process and wasn't sure where this would go, but I am glad I trusted the process. Thanks for this amazing video and instruction!

This is so gorgeous! It does run small though, I would recommend most people to add some extra rows - though I'm still new to crocheting, so I'm not sure where they should be added 🧡
extra rows should be added as follows: instead of doing 28 rows for the first side panel, do as many as you need so it fits the side of your head. write down the amount of rows you did, and repeat that for the other side panel. if you need it to be longer rather than wider, increase the amount of foundation chains (first thing you do to start the project). hope this helps :)
I started doing this pattern thinking it would be a fail because I've only been crocheting for one year and all the clothing items I've tried doing, failed. I gave up trying for months, until i saw this video and remembered my dad wanted something like this. Just finished it and it's amazing, got confused in some parts, but somehow it came up looking lovely, thanks for sharing ❤

Hola!
I was looking for a crocheted clava pattern, and it was all bad for me. I was hoping to find a pattern similar to the crocheted one, and I found this video. It is really amazing, as if it was made with a knitted pattern.🤩🤩🤩🤩
i had some beautiful fingering weight yarn that i really wanted to use for this project, but it was so difficult to do the slip stitch ribbing. so instead i changed the single crochets to half-doubles, and the slip stitch ribbing to single crochet BLO ribbing. it’s working excellently. i thought i would share in case anyone else wanted to use fingering weight yarn for this pattern. i also had to increase my starting chain to maybe 60-70, but kept the ribbing at 20 stitches
Turned out amazing! But i did need a bit more than 100g of DK yarn, so if anyone is buying yarn for this make sure you buy an extra ball just in case!!
for the ribbing do we decrease and do ribbing for every two stitches or does every single stitch have the up and down row of single crochets? amazing pattern!
10:57 i’m confused about decreasing… every time i complete another row, the dec sts get farther away and taller and create wider and wider holes :( plz help !!
The pattern is amazing. I followed it and I love the balaclava that I made. But maybe it should be mentioned that the size is very small. If someone wants to make it as a Medium size like I did, be aware and make more rows.
When you add mohair do you also use 100g of mohair or around how much will i need if i add the mohair strand? I have made 2 of these already in wool blend but i want to make a fuzzy one with mohair just not sure how much to order. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! best balaclava pattern.
For anyone wondering why their balaclava turned out smaller, when adding mohair to any yarn, it’s like you go up one weight. In this case, the yarn that she’s using is weight 3 and with the mohair, it becomes a 4. If you didn’t use mohair then either use a bigger hook to compensate or add extra stitches!
you have to keep going with 20 slipstitches and 48 single crochets so it creates a kind of “bend” around the head. And continue until you reach 45 rows in total!! 😊
How is 45 determined to be the last row before starting the decrease? I made more rows than the tutorial, with 28 sc and 22sl for the first row, and I started to make the L shape after row 30 (28+2, am i right?). I couldn't figure out which row would be the equivalent of row45 in the tutorial for me
rows 26 to 45 have to be 38 cms. since you added around 5 extra rows maybe try adding the same amount of rows, so maybe do 50 rows? for example i did 34 rows for the first part so the 45 rows would be 53 rows for me. hope this helped!!!
Just finished crocheting my balaclava. Thank you for the tutorial! I used DK yarn without moher and about half way through I realized that the balaclava is shaping up too small/tight, so I added more rows in the back, but it still just barely fits my head 😅 I ended up not bending/sewing the around-the-face ribbon so there's enough material covering the sides of my face. Might do it later if the balaclava stretches over time😊
I love this pattern so much but for some reason it came out boxy at the top instead of round. Does anyone know why that is or if I can fix it? 🥲 I followed the instructions very carefully so no clue where I went wrong
Love the pattern! My slip stich section though keeps rounding and after 6 rows it looks like a Croissant. Do you have an idea what I might be doing wrong? I am using a 5 mm hook
If I want to make this balaclava with a ticker thread do I need less rows for every part? If if decide to start off with a row of 40, do I also do 5 less on every other part?
Hi! I really love how this pattern turned out and I want to try and make it in 2 colors, with the split in colors happening vertically while wearing it (so like white on the left side and pink on the right side), but I can't seem to figure out which rows should be which color so that it looks like a good vertical split. If anyone could help that would be great!
On row 26 after crocheting 24 stitches you have to add 24 sc on the side that has the bumps which she points out at 7:37 .At the end of row 26 you chain 1 and turn your work to start row 27 then sc all the way around until the stitch marker. You’re basically crocheting an L shape.
Thank you so much. This pattern is really nice. I have 2 questions: is this pattern for an adult or teen and can the neck part not be so tight? My niece its autistic and she doesn't like anything tight around her neck. Thank you.
This crochet pattern is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing! I have lots of wool of various thickness and I am not sure which thickness/ply wool to use with 4.5 Hook - if you can kindly help me fathom this out it will be much appreciated ❤ Again many thanks and hope to hear from you in my email.
If I do 30 single crochets instead of 24, must I also do 30 single crochets instead of 24 in row 26 (total of 60) or do I add 24 as in the smaller version (total of 52)?
Greatest tutorial I’ve ever watched on crochet. My only suggestion is showing the work flattened every once in a while so we can see the progress. Sometimes the work is folded in on itself and I can’t tell where you’re at in the steps. THANK YOU
I followed this pattern with a 5mm hook and it turned out baby/child sized :( Is there anything I can do to make it bigger? Or if I try to make it again, how can I make it bigger? Thank you!
Hiii, lovely tutorial but I have a doubt 🧐 How should I take the measurements? For example, from the top of my head to my neck, or the circumference of my head? I'm lost.
I made one a bit bigger and simply added 10 more chains in the beginning, so you make 55 instead of 45. You have to make some more adjustments so the easier way would be to just use a thicker, chunkier yarn.
Do you think the original pattern as presented is small enough for a one year old baby?
Thank you so much for this. Could you kindly share the measurements of your doggos version please?

too late :( HAHHA
did you use the same yarn and crochet size as her? asking cause i want to make it for myself :)
Also. I think it looks cuter when it is little bit big. And the neck part doesn't stretch that much. So it would be better if you make it bigger
It may be due to your own tension while crocheting. I'm pretty loose, so it works fine to me. Always adjust to your own goals, of course
I’m gonna make it as she instructs bc it seems to match the same measurements as the previous balaclava I’ve made. Imma hope it fits😂🤞

If I want to make this balaclava with a ticker thread do I need less rows for every part? If if decide to start off with a row of 40, do I also do 5 less on every other part?
keep the same number of rows etc. because it's a kid's size, me and several others got bamboozeld on the first make :')
Thankyou, it is beautiful
Hi! I really love how this pattern turned out and I want to try and make it in 2 colors, with the split in colors happening vertically while wearing it (so like white on the left side and pink on the right side), but I can't seem to figure out which rows should be which color so that it looks like a good vertical split. If anyone could help that would be great!
Lovely.. can you please tell me the gauge because I'm using a thin yarn
Gauge is 14 Sc x 16 Rows measures to 4’’ x 4’’/ 10cm x 10cm
Can some1 explain the repeating of rows 26-27 pls🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
On row 26 after crocheting 24 stitches you have to add 24 sc on the side that has the bumps which she points out at 7:37 .At the end of row 26 you chain 1 and turn your work to start row 27 then sc all the way around until the stitch marker. You’re basically crocheting an L shape.
Does comment above help? Couldn’t explain it any better
Thank you so much. This pattern is really nice. I have 2 questions: is this pattern for an adult or teen and can the neck part not be so tight? My niece its autistic and she doesn't like anything tight around her neck. Thank you.
This is adult size and you can make more rows for ribbing part 🫶
I can’t wait to make this 😊
Yaaay! I hope you’ll love it 🫶
This crochet pattern is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing! I have lots of wool of various thickness and I am not sure which thickness/ply wool to use with 4.5 Hook - if you can kindly help me fathom this out it will be much appreciated ❤ Again many thanks and hope to hear from you in my email.
I also had to adjust the size a lot in order for it to fit my head, but this is the cutest Balaklava I could have imagined 🥰
How many rows did you make?
yayyy i've been waiting for this omg tysmmmm
Yaaay! I hope you’ll enjoy it 🫶
Hi!! Can you tell me what can I do if I want to adjust this for a kid.
How many chains would you start with? :)
Hi! I haven’t made toddler one so I’m not too sure of the measurements 🫶
If I do 30 single crochets instead of 24, must I also do 30 single crochets instead of 24 in row 26 (total of 60) or do I add 24 as in the smaller version (total of 52)?
I have been searching high and low for this 😭😭😭
Yaaay you finally made it here 🫶🫶
Greatest tutorial I’ve ever watched on crochet.
Thank you!
Could we adapt this so it’s open and basically a hooded scarf? X
Tysm! What are the measurements for the balaklava head?
I have updated it in video description 🫶
will this pattern work for thicker yarn and a large size hook? Do I have to increase the number of chains and rows or just follow the tutorial as is..
Is this to fit a kids head?
Hiii, lovely tutorial but I have a doubt 🧐
How should I take the measurements? For example, from the top of my head to my neck, or the circumference of my head? I'm lost.
I mean if I wanted bigger how many chains should I add
I made one a bit bigger and simply added 10 more chains in the beginning, so you make 55 instead of 45. You have to make some more adjustments so the easier way would be to just use a thicker, chunkier yarn.
