Great tutorial thanks! But you seemed to have missed an instruction.... the very last is pick up all stitches in the face hole, but then suddenly you're finished. With what sized needle, how many rounds, is that 1x1 rib stitch? That last step would be much appreciated!
Hey Natalia. Video is missing instruction because I received a copyright claim from music I put, and by mistake I trim that part instead of mute. The needle size is 3mm, when you picking up stitches from the face hole make sure you have even number of stitches. I used rib stitch (1st knit, 1st purl), did 8 rounds and then cast off all stitches. I hope that helped :)
In 8:47 for A1, is it k, k1b, p, (k1b, yo, k1b), p k1b, p, then (k1b, yo k1b), p, k1b, p (k1b, yo, k1b) OR k, k1b, p, (k1b, yo, k1b), p, k1b, p, k1b, p, k1b, p, etc. I’m confused.
Hi Aura, what age is this balaclava suited for, please? I plan on knitting for my 9months old lady..should I size down or follow these instructions precisely? Thanks for the great video instructions! :)
this is my first time doing a fisherman rib and im so confused on A1-A4 :( How do you keep up with the ribbing pattern when you do p1, k1b, p1, k1b ...? Before the A1-A4, it was k, k1b, p, k1b, p, k1b. So even with the increase on A1, my purls and knits on the ribbing aren't lining up. Could someone please explain to me what I'm doing wrong?
Hey Susan. I think it will be a bit big for her. I would start with 17 st. and do R1-R2 12 times and then adjust the length on the sides. I hope it helped.
Hi marta, I tried and it turned out too small, so I would first measure your head and just knit those lengths instead of following the number of rows that is used in the video...
In step A1, what does the "..." refer to? Does it mean repeat all the steps before that until there is 4 stitches left? Or does it mean only repeat the purl? I followed it and that part isn't looking like yours 😭
@@mjh6083 you're welcome. I judt edit because I made a mistake when replying, You knit k1b, p, k1b, p... until 4 st. And you do as it says in the brackets etc.
I am sorry I am still a little confused about this… do you keep repeating the whole part? As in : k, k1b p (k1b,yo, k1b) p, k1b, p and then once again: k, k1b p (k1b,yo, k1b) p, k1b, p Until the last 4 stiches? Or do you do the whole pattern and then just repeat k1b and p for the rest of the row until the last 4? Please help ❤
this means that for the 2 row repeat, on the first row (R1) you will be doing k1b and purls. K1B is a knit one below, if you search how to do a k1B on youtube there are several tutorials :)
I think it means “Row 1” and “Row 2” but please correct me if i’m wrong”! Like eg “repeat R1 and R2 ten more times” you repeat the first two rows 10 more times
I did this with straight needles; it got super tight when the pattern called to pick up stitches from the right and left side of the rectangle, but when you start adding more stitches, it stretches out. To knit the neck, I put half the # of CO stitches on both sides of the piece of work (6 at the start and 7 at the end), and also added 2 more CO stitches on both sides to compensate for the mattress stitch. I stitched the 2 sides together with the mattress stitch. As for the ribbing around the opening of the balaclava, I am not so sure how to do that with the straight needles. I suppose you can just leave that part off or make circular needles if you’re really crafty. Good luck!
I think I figured out how to knit the ribbing on the opening, maybe before working the neck you can put the active stitches on a string and pick up the stitches around the opening while the bottom of the balaclava isn’t joined together by the 13 CO’s. You should probably add half the CO stitches on both sides +2 before and after picking up the stitches around the opening. That way when you work the neck, you can just pick up the correct amount of stitches from the bottom of the ribbing. I’m sorry if this is confusing, I’m still figuring it out myself. The easier route is to just find a pattern that is well suited for straight needles (that’s what I should’ve done too 🥲).
@@swedishfelicia The size for the head was good, but the neck part was too tight so therefore we couldnt get it over the head unfortunently. Maybe need to stick to the 4mm and not change to 3mm for the neck part🤔
