Shawn, This amp sounds amazing as well as your crazy good playing and the fact that it is a forty watt amp it is perfect for me so I'am sold ,anyway thanks for another great demo!!!
Hey Shawn. Killer sounding amp for sure. I love the opening chord riff especially the Dmin7 to Bb power chord - just so awesome how you blend elements of rock and jazz harmony to your compositions. Thank you so much Shawn. Please stay well, especially during these crazy times in our world.
The main upgrades for me are the addition of the presence and depth controls, the 2 masters as well as having separate gain and volume on the clean. The Two Notes stuff is great but I've had a Captor and CAB M for a while covering that part. But overall, I think I prefer the tone voicing of both channels on my Dynamis 7-40. I was half-way through the video for my previous comment and from what I hear, the D40's gain stops around where the 7-40 was on the blue dynamic setting. I use the red dynamic setting quite a lot more than the blue. The 7-40 also sounds a bit barkier in the mids to me which I love. Both are great amps and the D40 is a fantastic evolution of the original Dynamis 7-40 but I have no compulsion to get it as my 7-40 works perfectly for me as it is. I love the Revv sound! (I also have the G2 and G4 pedals). Thank you Shawn!
Was an absolute pleasure meeting and talking 80's rack gear with you last night Shawn and as always, an excellent demo and per usual, my bank account will yet again be negatively impacted as a result but it's all part of the experience right!? Cheers!
Hi Shawn. Great sounds. Just wanted to mention the proximity effect of an R121 mic is +12dB at 100Hz 6" from the source. Maybe you could suggest this amp to Dan at TPS? He said he may get a Dumble-style amp this year, and it sounds like the D40 does Dumble and much more for much less than some over-rated boutique amps. Finally, I'd consider a pair of mil-spec Tung-Sol 7581A tubes next tube change. It's the tightest, smoothest, clearest 6L6 variant made, a lot like a good KT66, and should last very long. It's a 35W tube, so should be biased 10~15% higher than a 30W 6L6GC for the same crossover distortion reduction level.
So much bad news from the world out there...all the more important it is to keep an eye for the little highlights in the life of a guitarist. And this amp really seems to me to belong there and close a gap in REVV's range. Just by the way: I love the sound of this 12-string Hamer. A beautiful instrument!
Assuming the Master Volumes are situated PPI, I'd think a lot more gain could be had by cranking the gain, tone stack and vol knobs with the boost engaged. It's not a modern "high gain" amp in the sense of substantial LP filtering applied to the lead channel, but the amount of gain available is likely more than you'd ever need.
I'd also avoid running a boost into the amp if it does have a SS input stage. Could get yucky transistor clipping. I'd keep the signal from the guitar close to unity gain just as a precaution.
What 10" speakers would you use? Did you know that a tight cluster 3x cab disperses the high-end like a single speaker? 4x cabs are a bad design in that respect.
Wow! The amp sounds great and the feature set is crazy! I slave my amps today through a Suhr RL, so I'm curious how the load in the Revv amp would sound vs. the Suhr. The channels seem super flexible too.
@@orangerecords_studio My mistake. Not that I have a dog in the fight, but the point is you are comparing a near class A Britishy-voiced amp with a Class AB Fendery-voiced amp. I think the tone stack is also pre gain on the D40, whereas it's post gain on the Badger. That alone make big difference in harmonic content and tonality, but I don't see how you get a "VST" from this demo. I'd wager you, or anyone, couldn't tell a good VST amp sim from a real amp over studio monitors anyway. They are just too realistic now. Aliasing is at least inaudible, if not non-existent and they've all managed to include the all-important speaker/transformer/tube interaction so crucial to the feel. The only real hurdle left is speaker cab dynamics, which Two Notes and others somewhat emulate.
Hey Shawn! Great demo as usual. I love my Dynamis 7-40. Out of curiosity, is the D40.s channel 2 less gainy than the Dynamis 7-40's gain (red) channel? Sounds less gainy to me.
The Dynamis 7/40 is my main amp. I love it, so versatile. The D40 sounds great, as expected. And i agree, it sounds like the 7/40 has more gain on tap.
Hi Shawn, great demo on this one! Question about the stereo XLR, is it mostly about sending two seperate IRs on each side? Or is the reverb stereo? Not sure I can wrap my head around why you'd need a stereo xlr out if nothing else is stereo :) Thanks!
Hey Shawn 👋 been a fan of yours even before you worked for revv amps love your playing style and Roq Martin over at Sweetwater recommended this amp because I am looking for a Fender, Tweed, Dumble meets marshall jtm 45 sounding amp was looking at the tone king imperial mk ii or the Victory v40 deluxe does this amp fit in that realm?
Great demo and head. Is there a way to go out to Two passive speaker boxes? Would I use one XLR out? If not, I could probably just splice the speaker cable in parallel. It will cut the Ohms in half but there seems to be plenty of power on tap. With these quality components I don't think it would fry anything as long as I use the correct Ohms setting. These give plenty of options on the back. Cleanest would be to use an existing plug. Also, is the amp relatively quiet free from hum?
@@ShawnTubbs What if they are not powered? I would rather not go into the effects loop on my Katana Artist- and the solid state circuits. Want to only hear the output of this $2k amp. I have another nearby 10" unpowered speaker cabinet. How would I get into both of them directly? Y cable? Since they are both 8 ohms, I could plug into the 4 ohm output.
Shawn, if I purchase the Soundslice Lesson Pack will I be able to access it from an iPad that is not on my account? Thanks again to you and Soundslice!
I would reach out to Soundslice but I'm pretty sure it's based on using a browser. No apps are needed nor does it require Flash. So long as you're signed in on your browser, the device you use shouldn't be an issue.
The clean channel on the Generator is different for sure. I personally prefer the clean channel on the D40. It's more open and has an overall more "vintage" character to it. The Generator clean is a bit more modern sounding for sure.
Hmmm.. In the studio, all bets are off. If I need a modern channel gain, I'll use my Revv G120. If I need modified Marshall channel gain, I'll use my Friedman BE 100 Deluxe. If I'm using pedals I'll turn on my Suhr Bella or D20. If I need a pedal platform but with headroom and edge of breakup, I'll use my Friedman DS 40. Now that the D40 is finally done, I will absolutely use it for big clean tones and JTM style channel gain.
@@ShawnTubbs I just received the D40 a few weeks ago, and we've spent our time getting to know each other! I have a Revv 1x12 cab with a Vintage 30 in it. I was planning to replace the V30 with a G12H 75, but accidentally ordered the G12H 65 instead. Now you've gotten me wondering if that's a good idea to replace the V30 at all. I play mostly classic rock 1970s-90s and some edge of breakup clean tones of original composition. I'll occasionally get on a short Jazz kick to learn new chords and rhythms. I'm saving my money for the matching 2x12 vertical from Revv (am a sucker for the style and matching light up logo!), but until that happens, what would you recommend for a 1x12" speaker? BTW... I have a Signature Tilt boosting a Kernom Ridge. I love the versatility that setup offers me! Thanks!
@@StrumBelievable I think you're good with the V30. I would put your hard earned cash into the new 2x12. You'll then have a V30 tonality as well as the G12H 75's that are in the 2x12.
The bias adjustment is accessible from the top of the chassis near the back. You should be able to get at it without removing it. You can bias for any 8 pin tube. EL34, KT88, etc.
@@ShawnTubbs I'd wonder if the OT Z is safe for KT66 though. I assume it's somewhere around 3.5k? It doesn't say in the manual, but the relatively low plate voltage might make it fine, and the OT might be rated much higher than 40W.
All the same?? My rockerverb 50 mk3 sounds completely different then my fender style amp.... what do you mean ?? I can see similarities but all the same??? 😮
There’s plenty of cross over when amp designs are aiming for the same ball park. But no all amps don’t sound the same. That’s like saying all guitars sound the same. For sure though it takes a good player to use different gear to their advantage for different tones and vibes. Most importantly for anyone liking to share the love for different gear it simply mixes things up to feed their inspiration 🙂
Several of their amps may have a SS input stage. The following stages are tubes, and the A/D/A reverb path is configured parallel to the analog/tube path so whatever interaction between tube stages should be preserved. That might be the case with the D40, but a passive guitar pickup doesn't have enough power to drive the first gain stage into nonlinearity, so I don't see how it would really matter, as I think the passive tone stack wired as a cathode follower breaks the tube stage interactions anyway.
Thank Shawn! I'm not a clairvoyant, but this amplifier will be a sales hit... if only the world doesn't collapse.
Haha, yeah things are a bit crazy but I'm keeping the faith! Thanks so much!
