I Love some of my mixes, and others I feel like I failed miserably, but I got into a consistent workflow where now I feel confident enough to push more and more into advanced territory. It's frightening and it gives you motivation at the same time. Thats why I love making music, it's such a wide range of subjects to learn and to try and master, that you always feel like the student and never the teacher, even if you're also teaching others. Nice!!!! I run my drums through a drum bus first and get em all crispy and nice before they hit the master. But I didnt know you could use that limiter to sidechain the kick and 808, definitely gonna have to incorporate that technique!

@@BManTTO it was! I believe it still is. It’s been years since I got it. You can google you lean loudness meter. It’ll bring you to their site where they have both versions.
i like to have 2 busses. one for the instruments and one for the drums so i can bring all of them down at the same time. same effect, different method i guess. and i also i can throw a eq on each bus to adjust and eq to see where my levels for either one is at.
If you’re professionally mixing yes. If just selling beats it “could” be overkill, especially if the customer is buying stems to have a different engineer mix/master it.

But if you read some plugin manuals, the plugins are modeled after analog gear so they will have a “recommended” number to feed gain into the plugin for desired results
Tbh I never used Maximus before and I don’t know what the preset is doing! But if you like how it sounds and it works, use it! One thing I would recommend is to study and understand what every thing does in the plugin and preset so you know what to adjust ect!

try your best to keep it simple w a few projects.. eq, the compress add a few spices like different VSTs and your there
