I met her and James Taylor when there daughter graduated high school. I was doing a detail and was blown away how nice and down to earth. I said I’m a big fan of both of you Mrs Simon and Mr Taylor. She said I’m Carly, he said I’m James. They said your so young, it makes us feel young when your generation is a fan of our music and it’s a pleasure to meet you officer, I said I’m Jeff. They both smiled, shook my hand and went on there way.
Your so vain Carly Simon: My first Love at13 years old I played this song to my Lover. at a bus station in Portland, Oregon. You got 5 songs for a quarter on a juke Box. My heart got broken. That was in 1972. I'm now 64 and this song is so important to me. Thank you Carly Simon, Your one of the best, ever...

please dont take this the wrong way but reading your post so reminded me of when johnny carson had the tonight show he would periodically crack jokes that always started with today I had to go and see the NBC proctologist Dr. Al bendover. Hope you can smile about this im not trying to offend anyone .
Wow Ben, how I really wish I was there too. Must have been incredible ! Those are the times when we realize how great the experience was only when it's over. Cheers from Argentina !
Also saw Grand Funk Railroad live I don't know I think I was about 6 years ago 8 years ago and let me tell you something you could have swore you were actually listening to the album their voices have not changed amazing amazing amazing
The record version is so evocative because of her youth, even if this performance is better. It's a sad song and as time heals all wounds this performance has a maturity and lost a bit of the clarity or currency it once had. I could say the same for Carole King with I Can Feel the Earth. It seems the currency has gone out of the song with passing decades and with it the freshness - for me at least.
I’ll NEVER forget when Carly bought all my Kingsbridge Little League Baseball tickets i was selling, and told me to write in my mother’s name. I started drumming at 6 years old and i was probably 10 when she opened the door. My draw dropped to the ground. She was so beautiful in person, and such a beautiful person! This was when she lived in Riverdale, NY. She is still beautiful!
That’s a great story. Thanks for sharing. She seems like you described. I gotta add, in the early 1970’s, she was simply stunning. See the album cover “No Secrets”.
Help me, I cant stop watching this. Her Voice, Stage presence, smile and looks are unbelievable. The rasp in her voice is epic(better then ever). Hope I peak in my 70's also-not a chance.
I also remember when she lived in Riverdale and went to the Riverdale Country School. I had started at the school in my sophomore year. They wanted my voice, not my grades ( Russel Ames was director of admissions). Every Friday evening Russ Ames led practice for the “Small Chorus”. We practiced classical music like the Fourey Requiem. It was a time when the boys school and girls school were separated but for this chorus we were together. I was a tenor and there was this beautiful strong alto. After some of the rehearsals we would go to the Simon home to play pool or just talk. It was a special time of youth when how well you sang was so important. For school assemblies Carley and I would do duets. I will never forget her rich deep alto voice. We were young, our lives ahead of us. She went on to the music world and I went on to the academic world, but at the time Russ Ames unified us into a wonderful chorus of around 12 singers gathered around this really talented leader Russel Ames. I just heard that he died but his music guidance is passed on to the generations he taught the love of music to, both pop and classical. May he Rest In Peace!
What an infectious smile, and the way she carries herself too. Absolutely adorable, always was. You hear a lot of kindness from her at the end when she thanks the crowd, the way she says it you can just tell she's a real sweetheart.
A personal favorite by such a beautiful fellow native New Yorker and richly talanted lovely woman . Thanks Miss Simon for some really great sings all timeless.
Grazie Carly per questo splendido brano...sembra immergersi in un ambiente magico.. very very beatiful..Mi piacerebbe tanto assistere ad un tuo concerto dal vivo.
This is what talent, strength, confidence and swagger looks like. When others chose to blend in, fit on, or disappear, Jimmy chose to be loud, proud and unapologetic. This is also what a trailblazer looks like. Well done!
Love Carly Simon! This song is especially a favorite, as I live in Nova Scotia, born and raised...and yes, sat outside on the lawn with my best friend, we were 15, and watched the "total eclipse of the Sun". July 10th, 1972. Now it's 2024, and I will be watching the total eclipse of the Sun, with my 15 year old grandaughter, and her two 15 year old best friends. Awesome memories from the Summer of 72' are so fun to remember. It was a Fabulous Summer! Cheers, from Halifax, Nova Scotia. 💕
Carly's voice is like warm sunshine on the face, it just feels right. Her and Karen carpenter, my 2 favorite female voices. Carly just had that smile that made you feel good and add her music, well there's a winning combo for you. I saw her at a free concert in Grand Central NYC and man was she great!
Two of my favorite pleasures in life... Carly Simon and the QM2! Carly has such an awesome, distinctive one of a kind voice... so beautiful and very talented... love her music and especially love this video!!!❤
I was just thinking how, after all these years, and probably performing it thousands of times, she gives it the same fresh interpretation as back in the 70s. Great artist.
Carly sounds great still, such a legionary song, I think most of us have one who fits this song. Carly looks good for 76 ha. The years have been kind to her. It must have been magical to be there and watch her sing your so vain..bravo
I'm 24 and just watched this in 2020 and it gave me tears it was so tremendous. I'm so happy I just witnessed this masterpiece of an orchestration. I remember hearing my parents play this song a lot while growing up. This was great. I'm glad Carly is still kicking it with us.
I just love this. When I was a kid I used to hear this song on the radio and it reminds me of my youth and it's so great to see Carly performing it here. She absolutely killed it and she knew it.
How great it is to hear great songs played by musicians who play the song not trying to show off their chops. They make the song breathe. As a musician who's played quite a bit in recording studios nationwide, there's no greater high than when you hit that zone where you can not only feel the song breathing, you can see it breathing. These players are excellent .
This is one of my all time favorite songs and i wasnt even born when this was recorded. One day i will learn it on guitar. Such a gorgeous lady and still got the voice
Underrated as an artist/songwriter. Her looks/sex appeal overshadowed her talent. What's amazing to me is how she can transcend time, being of her time, yet still timeless too.
Underrated? Ever? I think not. She's always rated among the best American artists there are. This song's got so many hooks, even a mute can bring down the house with it.
My wife and I married in 1979. The opening song, to dance only by groom and bride was "You're so vain", chosen by myself and played by an excellent band devoted to soft rock. Of course a song not suitable for a wedding party but we really enjoyed it. We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary a couple of months ago.
I am a QM2 regular. Was on her May 2024 ... and again in December. WISH, OH HOW I WISH I could have been on this crossing. Carly is incredible. And to have the Grand Ballroom all to herself ... just WOWOWOWOWOW.
What a fantastic song, it brings back so many memories. Donna H this one is for your my friend not for the reason many of you would think. She was singing it in a art class I was taking and that moment always stuck in my mind

Great performance from a great artist.!!! Luv it❤
I was there, man it was incredible, Carly so down to earth she talked with every person that approached her on the cruise, so beautiful still
please dont take this the wrong way but reading your post so reminded me of when johnny carson had the tonight show he would periodically crack jokes that always started with today I had to go and see the NBC proctologist Dr. Al bendover. Hope you can smile about this im not trying to offend anyone .
Wow Ben, how I really wish I was there too. Must have been incredible ! Those are the times when we realize how great the experience was only when it's over. Cheers from Argentina !
Ben Dover is that the same as Anita Bonghit or Haywood Jablowme??
Where was that?
was on The Queen Mary 2 Honeymooned on that Cruise ,we had no idea Carly was even aboard unforgettable
She is one of the very few that sounds as good live as on record, love her.
Also saw Grand Funk Railroad live I don't know I think I was about 6 years ago 8 years ago and let me tell you something you could have swore you were actually listening to the album their voices have not changed amazing amazing amazing
That's what I was thinking,,,magic
The record version is so evocative because of her youth, even if this performance is better. It's a sad song and as time heals all wounds this performance has a maturity and lost a bit of the clarity or currency it once had.
I could say the same for Carole King with I Can Feel the Earth. It seems the currency has gone out of the song with passing decades and with it the freshness - for me at least.
Great song! Never forgotten! Thank you, Carly...🙂
She is still beautiful!
remember....Music keeps your soul still young.. Music the only universal language excist
That’s a great story. Thanks for sharing. She seems like you described. I gotta add, in the early 1970’s, she was simply stunning. See the album cover “No Secrets”.
Memories!!!!
Neat story! Lucky you!!
So cool! 👍 and yes she is! I remember her being very skinny tall and beautiful…….
Help me, I cant stop watching this. Her Voice, Stage presence, smile and looks are unbelievable. The rasp in her voice is epic(better then ever). Hope I peak in my 70's also-not a chance.
she was at the store on Bleecker NY.Her magnetism ,charisma is out of this world and she sooooo nice and funny
I will help you. I prescribe watching and listening to Agnatha of ABBA.
Check out the rendition, live on Martha’s Vinyard. It’s even better than this
I also remember when she lived in Riverdale and went to the Riverdale Country School.
Carly's music is as close to perfect as pop/rock can get.
Is no one gonna comment on how good the drummer is? Perfect groove for the song, and whoever tuned and mixed the drums deserves an award.
What an infectious smile, and the way she carries herself too. Absolutely adorable, always was. You hear a lot of kindness from her at the end when she thanks the crowd, the way she says it you can just tell she's a real sweetheart.
Find ich auch!
Shhhh.
. just listen
A personal favorite by such a beautiful fellow native New Yorker and richly talanted lovely woman . Thanks Miss Simon for some really great sings all timeless.
She can still sing the hell outta this song
Her voice still magic as 50 years ago! Ciao from Italy!
She holds the title of 'least changed voice since the 70's.' Timeless. provocative, sexy, foxy and mystic. pure 'WOMAN POWER !
@David S. I know I miss that great music, its all gone a real shame too.
@David S. I think there are talents today, as well, but the music ends up so over produced you can't even tell.
Well done!
Who is Jimmy?
The smile she has at the end of the song - you can't help but love her for it!
What a brilliant talent she is, it's like time has stood still, Carly still has youth on her side, ageless, super dooper.
No matter what anybody says I love Carly. I love the way she looks and the way she sings. She is my diva from the 70s no doubt
Lucky you
Add Judith Dunham ( Geogry Girl) to that mix.
@@davidd1395 and Mary Travers❗
Two of my favorite pleasures in life... Carly Simon and the QM2!
Carly has such an awesome, distinctive one of a kind voice... so beautiful and very talented... love her music and especially love this video!!!❤
She wrote the soundtrack to many of our lives methinks. What a brilliant lady.
I was just thinking how, after all these years, and probably performing it thousands of times, she gives it the same fresh interpretation as back in the 70s. Great artist.
Remember
The whole crew sounds so good, and she can't hold that smile back, it just comes.
Who's still listening to this gem in 2024?
Me right now 🖐️
Me as well. Great song. Carly is a legend.
June 11, 2024 still listening!!❤
Imagine writing a song as good as this and having everyone sing along at such a nice intimate gig, she looks really happy.
Can't keep a GOOD woman down, God bless you Queen Carly Simon. God's love is coming around again. Prayers to you. Your the BEST!
That voice. And that spirit. Indomitable! ❤
There aren't words to describe her. So gorgeous, so talented, and that voice gives me chills.
Carly Simon: Une belle et magnifique chanteuse. Carly: you are so great.
I'm glad Carly is still kicking it with us.
lookin' , soundin' fantastic.
Carly is just one of the best and most talented. I can listen to her all night. I have her live at Martha’s Vineyard DVD and still play it. I love it.
I just love this. When I was a kid I used to hear this song on the radio and it reminds me of my youth and it's so great to see Carly performing it here. She absolutely killed it and she knew it.
Such a beautiful woman and a timeless classic.
Love you Carly.

Carly Simon is a legend a voice that will go on forever
Can we talk about her 3 back up singers? They are perfect!
The blonde is her daughter Sally
Carly is so great. Voice, looks, and plays guitar. ❤
And writes songs!
Love her so much
This has been one of my favorite songs since the first time I heard it. Needless to say, I spent many years wondering who Carly was singing about.
Me too from England l still love it after all the years
The Queen Mary is simply the best ship I have ever been on - sheer class which totally deserves a performer as classy as Carly. This is great!
She a class act. Make no matter where.
The one in long beach Ca? I know there are several queen marys, at least I believe. The one in Ca I've been to a million times..
@@benjamins9121 No. Queen Mary 2. Cunard's flagship.
@@albertochoa7331 The Titanic was a class act
@@ABSDEFRD I'm sure it is a CLASS act that's why she play there. Feeling the LOVE.
Beautiful song, contagious smile, fabulous voice, great singer...Carly is a gift for our ears
There is no musician today that will have this talent, grace and natural beauty to keep a song reticent for so long.
Thanks Ms. Simon
I was 2years old when this song came out, I was born Feb22nd 1970
Underrated as an artist/songwriter. Her looks/sex appeal overshadowed her talent. What's amazing to me is how she can transcend time, being of her time, yet still timeless too.
Underrated? Ever? I think not. She's always rated among the best American artists there are. This song's got so many hooks, even a mute can bring down the house with it.
She’s 76 and still looks and sounds fantastic!
Hello Eileen, How are you doing?
My wife and I married in 1979. The opening song, to dance only by groom and bride was "You're so vain", chosen by myself and played by an excellent band devoted to soft rock. Of course a song not suitable for a wedding party but we really enjoyed it. We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary a couple of months ago.
Love Story or Speak Softly by Andy Williams were better for such occasions.. Sweden.
I am a QM2 regular. Was on her May 2024 ... and again in December. WISH, OH HOW I WISH I could have been on this crossing. Carly is incredible. And to have the Grand Ballroom all to herself ... just WOWOWOWOWOW.
Love how the band is totally all in and loving it
How old is carly here , she is so enjoying this moment, I could listen to this all day , she looks fantastic and sounds fantastic
I don't care about her age. What I see here is that she's a very strong guitar player!
I think 60
75 years old in 2020, she was 60 when this vid was made.
Just pure class , one of the greatest songs ever as well
What a beautiful woman and a wonderful voice. Will never go out still!!
As a preteen, I loved Carly Simon. No one has a voice like hers. She is a true legend!
She still beautiful
She has a natural charm. It looked like she just enjoyed the singing and playing the guitar. I really enjoy watching her performance.
She still sounds the same, love Carly. She sings that song with conviction, wonder if it really was about James Taylor. She also looks quite lovely.
No, Ma'am..... Steven Tyler. Aerosmith. Believe it, or not.
Ahh,I thought it was about Warren Beatty!!..
It's about Warren Beatty and James Taylor

What a fantastic song, it brings back so many memories. Donna H this one is for your my friend not for the reason many of you would think. She was singing it in a art class I was taking and that moment always stuck in my mind
I know donna h.
Did you think this song was about you when she sang it? xD
