- Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan and former cricketer David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd sit down with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy to fiercely debate the sport of cricket.
Hailing from the United States, Mr Portnoy said he does not "know anything” or "care about" cricket.
“Cricket’s irrelevant, no one cares about cricket here.
“Is this show only in Sydney Australia or something?”
Imagine going on an overseas TV station to discuss your own national holiday and then they ask you about a sport you never heard of 😂😂😂 that must be so confusing hahaha

As Australians watching this… it’s rare for us to say “I agree with the poms on this one”, but it’s true on this 😂. I don’t hold anything against Americans who think it’s boring… pointless etc…. because they did not grow up with this beautiful game… they have no exposure to it

Yeah. Thanks to your country's GDP and Hollywood exporting its culture to other countries. The sports in themself are not superior. I would rather say they have structural issues. For example, Basketball requires you to be exceptionally tall to play at the highest level. The same is the case with American football as well I guess where athleticism is the major factor. Baseball is cricket dumbed down to brute force generation and hand-eye coordination.
On the other hand cricket is highly nuanced, strategic, and skill-oriented along with demanding physicality. Football also is like that, even though modern game is shifting away from skills and more to athleticism.
If cricket is marketed like American sports the T20 will for sure overtake Baseball even in America
it's the most beautiful game in the world.. if you can understand it.

American here, and I vividly remember the beginning of the first time I ever watched a cricket match(?) at a bar and we ended up making a drinking game out of trying to figure out the rules. I can’t remember if we ever figured it out, but I do know that we had a great time trying!

The fact is, in dollar terms, cricket is the second most popular sport on the planet. Must suck to be an American to realise that they suck in the number one (football (or soccer to heathens)) and number two (cricket) most popular and profitable sports codes on the planet. NFL, NBA, MLB....never heard of you. Come back when you can compete at a world level, American level doesnt count for anyone except Americans
Cricket is not a global sport. Its only because of India and Pakistan its second most popular. Britain is the only European nation that plays cricket.
US is great a boxing much better than the Brits are. Top level American boxers always beat top level British boxers. Dont mention Deontay Wilder he was never elite.

One of the stupid rules about cricket are the time limits. For example the current test the Australians won by 2 wickets, but England declared in their first innings with 2 wickets still standing so how is that a win. Both innings should be played in full for a genuine winner. The Australians have travelled here and will be here all summer to play 5 tests so get out there and finish each test properly by playing both innings fully, the 5 day rule is stupid , if you need a 6th or 7th day get out there and finish it.
Playing it out has been done. I could be wrong, but I recall reading about one played out in South Africa that took 12 days to complete.

Football (proper football , what you call soccer in America ) is obviously and demonstrably the best and most popular sport in the world. When we look at global viewing figures, global money made from TV broadcasting , number of spectators going to games, Players wages, and lots of other factors, football wins easily and it's not even close.
