  • This video is about the African presence in Mexico. It includes a brief history of Afro Mexicans and famous Afro Mexicans. It is in English and Spanish.
    The term Afro Mexican is referring to someone of African and Mexican origins. Of course, African descendants have other roots and lineages too.
    All comments that I find offensive, racist, stereotypical and negative will not be approved. Please be respectful.
    It should be noted that many persons of African descent in "Latin" America and the Caribbean do not refer to themselves as, "Afro + nationality" but either as "negros", "afrodescendiente" or by their nationality.
    Thanks Unique5589

    The great thing about Mexico is that everyone is Mexican. No matter what part of the world you are from, once you make mexico your home you are a mexican and the rest is forgotten. the differences are obviously visible but unlike the US the practice of counting the drops of blood that are european and the ones that are native or black is not a common practice in mexico (although some people do give importance to the differences) .

    @Maxantium The US out of racism wanting to prevent from contaminating their DNA from Blacks decided to brand anyone who had the slightest mixture of Black as Black on their birth certificates. Mexican birth certificates do not denote the persons race, only the place of birth of the child and the country of birth of the parents, the child then becomes Mexican if born in Mexico even if the parents were born in Haiti or Lebanon. The US reality is not the Mexican reality according to census.

  • @teresaguerrasalazar
    @teresaguerrasalazar 13 лет назад +2

    @Maxantium Mexican census is not like US census Blacks in Mexico are not a separate group, Mexicans have Black in our admixture, how can you separate that, all families have light skinned and dark skinned family members, straight or curly headed. There are no pure Blacks in Mexico everybody is mixed, we are an eternal mixture. I did not know I had Black in me until I came to US and the Black girls said I had "Black hair" not kinky but straigh the ironed hair look. Everybody can vote in Mexico.

    @AztecTripleAlliance I don't know what you mean by "true Mexicans", however, there are Mexicans with African blood. This page and video are about celebrating the African influence in Mexico, not the indigenous or European. While most Mexicans are a mixture of indigenous and European the African root is still there.

    In Mexico we are all mexicans whether your parents came from China, Timbuktu, Madagascar so we don´t made those distictions however truly dark skin color is often confused with inmigrants except in the states with a higher admixture like Veracruz and Guerrero.

    Three Afro-Mexican actors that weren't included in this video were Christian Stanley, Rudy Casanova, and Jorge Zamora aka "Zamorita." All three actors have acted in telenovelas or comedy shows from Televisa(Mexico's main TV network/production company). And two other actors who are non Mexican Afro-Latinos that have acted in Mexico that I feel should've had an honorable mention in this video were the late Rene Munoz(Cuba) and Edgardo Eliezer(Panama).

    @Priceless2124 You can say that when the Black people you are referring to are actually 100% African; otherwise, they are of MIXED race and culture. Maybe that's why they--Blacks--haven't gotten credit.

    On my many travels to Africa, mainly Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal, I noticed that the native music in these West African countries are very similar to Mexican music...now thanks for verifying the origins of why Mexican music sounds just like West African music. Now, I know I was right to compare Mexican music to West African music.

    @teresaguerrasalazar 2/3 of the population I dont think so? I believe in a fraction of a percent yes, but not two thirds!, were im from there is no one with any kind of afro ancestry, the majority are Spanish, German and some French and allot of the families here benn here for over 400 to 200 years of ancestry, and by no way did any of them got mix with afro, native yes, and when you say 2/3 thats more than half, its 1 percent of the populatoin maby even less than that.

    @elmajico361 Your statistics are not correct. The African population is not categorized or counted in the Mexican census. The exact number is not known. The Black Mexico Society is trying to get a census count. According to documented research, about 500,000 Africans came to Mexico during colonial times, outnumbering Europeans. This is history. Nothing more.
