Poverty in Afro Latino America
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.14 лет назад
The poverty amongst African descendants living in the Latin American region is striking. According to a study conducted by Inter-American Development Bank, Afro Latinos make up 30% of the region's population but 40% of the region's poor. For many Afro Latinos political representation seems nearly impossible; marginalization, racial discrimination, and stereotypes are just mere daily experiences...

Three Afro-Mexican actors that weren't included in this video were Christian Stanley, Rudy Casanova, and Jorge Zamora aka "Zamorita." All three actors have acted in telenovelas or comedy shows from Televisa(Mexico's main TV network/production company). And two other actors who are non Mexican Afro-Latinos that have acted in Mexico that I feel should've had an honorable mention in this video were the late Rene Munoz(Cuba) and Edgardo Eliezer(Panama).

Thanks for posting it. I read a long time ago a book by an African American historian called the Riddle of the Afro-Argentineans. I always recommend it to my fellow Argentineans to remind them of a forgotten and important part of our history. You need to add Sergeant Cabral, a hero of Argentine Revolution. They also fought in the Desert Campaigns (Indian extermination campaigns). To be fair, Mestizos (Native/White mix race) also fought in all those wars, as many or more than Blacks.

There two descriptions that black people in Latin America need to understand: one is that they can describe themselves by their nationality (the country that they were born in or grew up in), but it is inaccurate. It is more accurate to describe their ethnicity (relating to the classification of mankind into groups, esp on the basis of racial characteristics) as being African. Black people are not indigenous to any Latin American country, therefore they are descendents of Africa.

On my many travels to Africa, mainly Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal, I noticed that the native music in these West African countries are very similar to Mexican music...now thanks for verifying the origins of why Mexican music sounds just like West African music. Now, I know I was right to compare Mexican music to West African music.

I would like to translate this paragraph from the Argentinean Constitution: "(...) and the slaves that in any way could be introduced (in our country), are free by the only fact of stepping into the Republic's territory." Slavery was partially abolished in 1813 (the sons of the slaves were free) and in 1853 was abolished permanently.

this is not tango, it's flamenco from Spain. If you want to listen to flamenco, check out Vicente Amigo and Paco de Lucía. But if you want to listen to tango, look for Juan D'arienzo, Julio Sosa (uruguayan), Carlos Gardel...

Yes, we had a president who was racist, called Sarmiento, who killed many indians for the sake of gaining lands for agriculture (just like in Australia, USA, and many other colonies). Remember that Argentina is a subpopulated country, so, if we only had a small army consisted of black people and it was killed... well... the few people left mixed. This is a country based in immigration. It cannot be racist, although there's always a little bit, it cannot be compared to other countries like Brazil

Excuse me idiot! I am am African -American man. I am also a well educated man who just happens to know Mexican history. The fact that lighter-skinned Mexicans won't acknowledge having African ancestry is BS. Where shall I begin, I'll start with Spain. Spain was occupied by black west-African MOORS. They held Spain for 900yrs. You think the Spanish pop at that time wasn't intermingled with black-blood? That's why the Spaniards have a darker skin tone than their white counterparts in Europe.

Y no, Argentina no fue el primer país. Muchos países lo hicieron mas antes - el primer país latinoamericano (fuera de Haití) que lo terminó fue México en 1810. Argentina no lo hizo hasta 1853.

@elmajico361 Your statistics are not correct. The African population is not categorized or counted in the Mexican census. The exact number is not known. The Black Mexico Society is trying to get a census count. According to documented research, about 500,000 Africans came to Mexico during colonial times, outnumbering Europeans. This is history. Nothing more.
