Many African Americans feel uncomfiortable if they are told that they have Mexican or any other Latino ancestry. Neither do many African Americans like their kids getting romantically involved with Latinos because they feel that it threatens to dilute their African American culture.
I'm negro and I love the Mexican culture I love the music and my Mexican friends call me black Mexican but the two races have some similarities i can admit
Thank you for posting this video! There is SO MUCH about the histories & cultures of People of Color that isn't taught in schools. We have to learn it on our own. This is made easier because of RUclips videos such as this one. I added this video & 3 more to a post entitled Black Mexicans & Black Peruvians on my pancocojams blog. The purpose of that blog is to increase awareness of African American & other Black cultures. Thanks again! -an African American sista
Anyone that goes to Mexico on a trip can see that there are people with African descent all over the place! Ive been there many times and noticed. They have such beautiful rich color.
I first learned of Afro-Mexicans from a Mexican-Amereican friend of mine over 10 years ago. I saw the exhibit at the Mexican American Museam in Chicago a few years back. As a Black American I found it truly fascinating. However , when I shared this with a friend of mine who was born in Mexico City, she denied the very existance of Afro Mexicans, in fact , she stopped talking to me afterwards. Fascinating.
Bottom line is if you are black, european asian descent ect. if you were born in Mexico then you are Mexican. It's not that people don't want to recognize where they come from, but to belong as a Mexican putting aside how you look.
Mix in with the few who would accept them. That is an understatement. They were welcomed by the indigenous who saw the same treatment they were being submitted to by the Spaniards. The natives were not racist to begin with. On the other hand, the Spaniards started to mix with both African and Indigenous women VERY VERY soon.
My grandma, my father, my uncles, and ironically my racist aunt have very small, but somewhat noticeable African features. I have a very light skin tone, I have more Spanish features, but my hair is curly and bushy.
Beautiful video, is our third root, the third root of Mexican population, We Mexicans are Indigenous, whites, criollos, blacks, mextizos, VIVA LA RAZA!!!!!
You really know your history and I love it. I am black from America, but I speak Spanish very well and when i do I get this look that is like, how do you know my language? and first thing they ask are are you dominican or cuban? I always say no, but it always made me wonder why wouldnt they ask if I was Mexican? But then I started to think, how difficult is it for black Mexicans to be accepted, because they do not fit the stereotypical look of a Mexican.
PEOPLE SURELY SOUND DUMB WHEN THEY SAY, "THESE PEOPLE ARE'NT BLACK THEIR DARK", WHEN DARK AND BLACK ARE THE SAME THING. AND THEY LOOK NO DIFFERENT THAN OTHER BLACKS SPREAD ALL OVER THIS WORLD. WE AS DARK PEOPLE SHOULD ALL COME TOGETHER AS ONE. I'M LIGHT BROWN & I STILL CONSIDER MYSELF BLACK.
The ones who are clearly black don't embrace it. I don't see how they can say they are white or indigenous when they clearly look black. Many Hispanics also exaggerate their Spanish blood and many Spaniards don't see them as one of them.
Who sings the second song?
Mexica was a plant that the Aztecs identified with and called themselves. Where an Azteca's feet stand is his home, no man comes into my home and beats an Aztecs.
According to a paper presented by the American Society of Human Genetics Mexicans were found to be 58.96% European, 36.05% "Asian" (Amerindian), and 5.03% African. Sonora shows the highest European contribution (70.63%) and Guerrero the lowest (51.98%). In Guerrero one also observes the highest Asian contribution (37.17%). African contribution ranges from 2.8% in Sonora to 11.13% in Veracruz. 80% of the Mexican population was classed as mestizo (Amerindian-Spanish). [30]
That is true, my husband family comes from el Mellado Guanajuato, a town were blacks slaves were brought to work in the mines. I was able to trace their lineage and quite frankly it is obvious just by looking at them, unfortunately, they don't realize it. I intend to talk about that, and the heroic Pipila, who also came from the same town and they change the subject. You have to understand that our government did not include our black history in the books, so we don't see ourselves as blacks.
One of the earliest presidents of Mexico was part black and there are a few Mexicans who do have some trace of black ancestry like George Lopez. Blacks did have a presense in Mexico and if you can't accept it,too bad.Think about it the next time you listen to La Bumba.
My father was from guanajuato and was dark skinned nappy hair and my grandpa from my mother's side was from Guerrero dark skin curly hair most of my fam are like that
Many black Mexican men worked in the mines of Guanajuato, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; and many of them became well-to-do. I've seen many photos of Black Mexican people of Guanajuato from that period. My question is where are their descendants now?
+Isaac Hunter Here is tge thing..., Spaniards mixed with blacks, indigenius mixed with blacks, spaniards mixed with indigenius, then, when we got our independence we mixed even mother every body with everybody, so some some people don't look like blacks but they have their DNA, the Spaniards didn't have laws like in the U.S.A, I mean the Blood line, that's why african american from the U.S , look more pure, and the whites too, the English colonizers brouth their full falimy members, like with familys, and tge spaniars where conquers, who where all soldiers mens, they didn't brought their wifes and their childrens, so they started to mixed with black women and indigenius, I read that on a history book.
GREAT POST! Keep putting out the truth. Tell those so called "founding fathers" that we have outgrown what they force fed us through the school system. Revlution is needed

Vicente Guerrero didn't believe in judging someone by the color of their skin like majority of the brainwashed spanish people. True Hero!
I agree with you, but Hispanic refers to any person who speaks the Spanish language. Please, let's stop lumping ourselves with every other spanish speaking people, if you mean latino, this is indicative of all those whose language derives from Latin, which further alienates us, because it includes the Italians, the French, Portuguese, and the Romanians.
For you that are saying that a Mexican is race, that's just very ignorant, being called a Mexican is a nationality not a race, my bro is a afro mexicano! My parents are from the costa Chica, better known as Africa mexicana; I don't considered my self black because my skin not black my hair is but not my skin. My bro is actually black skin and he consider himself black, he has all the features: big lips, 6'2 height, and great muscle tone, is not by choice is the just true aspect! Nonetheless his race is black spanish.
***** Do you understand that Mexico is not an ethnicity. It is a nation made up of several ethnic origins just like every other nation on the planet. Why are you so hell bent on pushing away the thought that Africans are part of Mexico. Open your mind and heart and embrace the truth for what it is. What's so wrong with being mixed with Africans, Asians, Europeans etc.? The whole world is mixed..
Some of those pics are of indigenous black natives of the various tribes (Aztecs, etc) who were already there when the white Spaniards arrived. You can tell the people who are obviously Negro vs the dark natives; the Aztecas don't have afros but they are black (all people of color descend from Adam but there are still distinct family trees of black people: Shem's and Kham's descendants). You can't group all dark people in the same category; there were ALREADY dark-skinned natives there.
I was last in Mexico in 1983. I lived in Cuernavaca, south of Mexico City, for 6 weeks. I remember seeing a busload of black people coming into Cuernavaca from the south. I realized that they were Mexicans from the coast near Acapulco. There is the unfortunate racism among Mexican- and Latino-Americans, generally, that has been layered over by American racism towards accepting the African contribution to the culture, food, and ancestry of the region. To Wiseup69 and George Hernandez: Blacks didn't contribute anything to the independence movement, culture, and food of Mexico and play an insignificant role in Mexico. Really? Yes, you could travel throughout much of Mexico and, maybe, see more people with indigenous or European features but, look carefully, you will also see African features in them, too, but racism clouds your view and puts a filter on it. Go to coastal Veracruz, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, if you don't see any Mexicans of African descent. Also, the eminent anthropologist and sociologist, Gonzalo Aguirre Beltran, exhaustively researched birth records of colonial and early republican Mexico. He accurately concluded that, as of 1940, 40% of all Mexicans had a black African ancestor. Because African Mexicans blended into the population and didn't have massive infusions of slaves in the late 18th Century as Brazil, Cuba, and the Caribbean in general had, it was easier for Mexicans of African descent to "hide in plain sight" and not suffer the indignities and brutalities that slaves endured. Unlike slavery in the U. S., the child of a slave and non-slave was legally the race of the non-slave parent, thereby, legally mestizo and white. Also, non-Mexicans take the word "mestizo" too literally. Mestizo means any mixture of races. In today's Latin America, it is a term to mean racial mixtures, generally, not simply a mixture of indigenous and European. Yes, it does hurt (being of Mexican descent myself) to see my fellow Mexican-Americans denigrate and dismiss outright the existence or the importance of Africans in the history of Mexico. That's dismissing themselves. They have to look at why they are so frightened and dismissive of African presence in Mexican society. By the way, check out the cuisines of Veracruz, Guerrero, Oaxaca, of coastal Mexico generally, and you see the infusions and recipes of West African ingredients and cooking techniques. They just don't make your local El Torito or El Pollo Loco here or in many other Mexican restaurants (most owned by Mexican-Americans of northern or west-central Mexican origin, areas that had the least African presence in Mexico).
+Mr. LA Tours There are thousands of Black Mexicans in the states of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located, and Oaxaca. The area where most of them live is call La Costa Chica.....
True enough! What I thought was fascinating was a national study of DNA among Mexicans. State by state, the citizens of Veracruz State, consistently, had no less than 10% West African DNA!
Mr. LA Tours Do you remember what the percentages were for the other states? Veracruz is like home base. I really want to visit Mexico. Such a large country though, but Veracruz is one of the regions I want to see. Especially want to try the food!
one of your most famous mexicans emiliano zapata was mulatto. for those of you who dont know what that means, he was black and spaniard. he came up with the saying "id rather die standing than to live on my knees.
I grew up in Corpus Christi, Tx many of my friends were Mexican it is a beautiful people but I did not know about the African presence in Mexico until recently, it's mindblowing the lies that we've been told and the fear that many have of being associated with Africa we should honor the memory of our ancestors whom many of their family members rest at the bottom of the oceans because they didn't make it! I'm grateful because that could have been my ancestor that died in the crossing, I'm blessed
@natgirrl That's beacuse many people in DF are snobby, plus, while there are Black-Mexicans in Mexico they really aren't a substantial component of the population. It would be like making a big deal about Tongan-Americans and asserting that American has Tongan roots.
Haha I was just thinking about them! I live around alot of islanders now (in the U.S.) and they've always been interesting to me precisely because they are/were a small part of the population ;) plus they look so cool 😎
I support blacks, native americans, and any minority being oppressed, however, genetically native americans are more related to asians, and just recently have some of them received white and black influences. Of course humans originated in Africa, and all humans descend from africans. Evolution has not stopped, and blacks turned whites in Europe, yellow in Asia, and brown (red) in America. But the first inhabitants of America were immigrants from Asia who turned brown. Yes we are the human race.
Gotta love Mexico!
what do you define as white? someone having blue eyes and blond hair?? or someone from Europe?? there are african albinos with blonde hair and blue eyes but there still classified as non white.. the white people in south africa are NOT native
indeed, who else will? also probably has something to do with the fact that many probably may not be able to trace a lineage to any single country or tribe from africa. also, trinidad is a good portion indian.
I have dark skin but because my dad is Dominican with more African in his family while my mom was Mexican, more European looking i guess from the Spanish.
LOL WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IS I LOVE INDIGENOUS MEXICAN PEOPLE AND I NEVER SAID ALL OF THEM WERE BLACK OR AFRICAN I KNOW THEY ARE AZTECS AND MAYANS AND TAMAHARRA NATIVE PEOPLE FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF MEXICO I LOVE ALL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE BECAUSE WE WERE THE FIRST ON THIS LAND!
NEWS FLASH, Michelle Rodrigues is not Mexican, she is Domican and it is already known that Dominicans are of african and spanish ancestry. And 21% african is way too little for someone of Dominican descend
It is believed, amongst other theories, that in time many different groups of Asians entered thorough Bering Strait, some could have been darker Asians as well. There was a wide range of ethnic minorities with very different traits and shapes in America. Some Asian tribes could have kept their dark skin since they left Africa, and kept their lineage until coming to America; like aboriginal Australians and some Pacific Islanders, that could have sailes across the Pacific to the South of America.
It really is sad to hear my people (Mexican-Americans) sound so ignorant on some of these posts. The ignorance to accept documented history is crazy. What is even more disturbing is reading all the post degrading black people, especially when we are degrading in similar fashion. Mexicans are combination of ethnicities anyway, so what are we really saying here by calling people the n-word. Grow up, stop being racist, and educate yourself...
It depends on individuals, not all Mexicans are the same mixture of race... Some Mexicans are nearly 100% percent european(Spanish descent), while others barely have any Spanish blood and are mostly Indian, african and asian descent..
we all meskins no matter da color ....y always we gotta fight among each otherss...leave it alone ...as long as we rep. mexico wit pride n on a positive n educated level!
How can you call their hand labor insignificant? The states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, Veracruz, and Coahuila have counted afro descendants but there are more states with unknown numbers. Unique last names such as: Moreno, Crespo, Pardo, and believe it or not Prieto were given to black Mexicans. Independence contribution? How about José María Morelos y Pavón & Vicente Guerrero Lázaro Cárdenas? Food? Menudo and Moronga come from the west of Africa, tripe pepper soup but in MX corn was added.
yea my cousin has really curly hair and big lips she almost looks like a black girl but moca color very pretty too and her family is frm jalisco mexico.
@pinchediablazo Obviously there is mixture and its more prevalent in particular areas. But to state that Mexico and the Mexican people are collectively a Mestizo nation is incorrect. Nice try tho.
Listen, go to Mexico and speak to a Professor at UNAM about Mexican History. I was born in Laredo tx, and spent most of my youth on both sides. I have lived in guanajato and am studied in native thoughts and spiritual practices. My grandfathers were both veterans of the revolution, we don't need you to tell us a history well documented. Why did the black disappear from Mexico but not Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico etc.? Because, the presence of the African American in Mexico
Cuando digo "integrate them into the mainstream of the culture" indico claramente que la integración es física y cultural.
@TheLastMexicatl,maybe..."maybe",not before like you said, but, after the arrival, and together with the spanish conquers, they started to come to current Mexico (then the viceroyalty "Nueva España",until 1821) for hundres of thousads (about 250 000,in according to the last researchings) between 1519-1800,or something, you know? But,they all (africans blacks) for various different reasons, could not be integrated as a distinct racial group, and "VISIBLE" from the rest of the Mexican population.
@@HualapaiTribe She is of full Nigerian genes born in Nigeria her mother is Nigerian of acquired Mexican citizenship. There are many people from all over the world who love our Country and culture.
@interstellarwonder Uncle Tom was actually a hero. He stood up for himself. His enemies respected him. I guess you didn't read the book Uncle Tom's Cabin. You should study the history & meaning of words.
@torchmoney1 you are wrong..mexican are decendant of native tribes an spanish.. there are some africans in the caribean mexican.. but they are a minority brought by the spanish.
I really dont see why some Mexicans are so ashamed of having African blood me personally I would embrace it.

I love this yes!!!!.
So true. Just look at DNA results for Mexicans on youtube. Every single one of them has between 2 to 6% African DNA.
I thought I was the only one I'M Afro Mexican
I am from guerrero i am afro mexican
Those people were not of Africa, but infact of the Americas!!
(Indigenous)
The lies these people tell will catch up to them .
Very true!
BLACKS WERE in Mexico before there was any such person as a Spainard or Mexican !!! People fail to realize how ANCIENT Black people are !
Thank you..haven't read them all but one of the smartest comments I have read on here
@natgirrl That's beacuse many people in DF are snobby, plus, while there are Black-Mexicans in Mexico they really aren't a substantial component of the population. It would be like making a big deal about Tongan-Americans and asserting that American has Tongan roots.
Haha I was just thinking about them! I live around alot of islanders now (in the U.S.) and they've always been interesting to me precisely because they are/were a small part of the population ;) plus they look so cool 😎
well explain how 250,000 africans were brought over there to mexico so you saying most of them died?
How many texts from academia have you read that will account for your comments? Cite them please.
BEFORE MEXICO IT WAS CALLED MEXICA AND BEFORE THAT TURTLE ISLAND
I support blacks, native americans, and any minority being oppressed, however, genetically native americans are more related to asians, and just recently have some of them received white and black influences. Of course humans originated in Africa, and all humans descend from africans. Evolution has not stopped, and blacks turned whites in Europe, yellow in Asia, and brown (red) in America. But the first inhabitants of America were immigrants from Asia who turned brown. Yes we are the human race.
Anyone showing this video in San Antonio, Texas. Would be considered a racist by Mexican-American law enforcement and their court system.
That would anti-constitutional here in the United States where there are real laws and could get you in a lottery of trouble. Be safe.
Gotta love Mexico!
Thanks for the feedback.
what do you define as white? someone having blue eyes and blond hair?? or someone from Europe?? there are african albinos with blonde hair and blue eyes but there still classified as non white.. the white people in south africa are NOT native
Stacy Dash would be proud she's Mexican n Black
indeed, who else will? also probably has something to do with the fact that many probably may not be able to trace a lineage to any single country or tribe from africa. also, trinidad is a good portion indian.
I have dark skin but because my dad is Dominican with more African in his family while my mom was Mexican, more European looking i guess from the Spanish.
LOL WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IS I LOVE INDIGENOUS MEXICAN PEOPLE AND I NEVER SAID ALL OF THEM WERE BLACK OR AFRICAN I KNOW THEY ARE AZTECS AND MAYANS AND TAMAHARRA NATIVE PEOPLE FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF MEXICO I LOVE ALL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE BECAUSE WE WERE THE FIRST ON THIS LAND!
you are too correct
Ibericus39 Are you mexican? And if so, from what part of mexico?
@quimixipilli Excuse my ignorance, but what does DF mean?
Grow up, stop being racist, and educate yourself...
my people come in a diversity of colors..we are all the same, stop the ignorance and embrace our differences in a constructive manner..
one love
@natgirrl my bad, it stands for Distrito Federal which is basically the Mexican capital, aka Tenochtitlan the original "Aztec" capital
MOVIE: THE ALAMO(2004)
How can you call their hand labor insignificant? The states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, Veracruz, and Coahuila have counted afro descendants but there are more states with unknown numbers. Unique last names such as: Moreno, Crespo, Pardo, and believe it or not Prieto were given to black Mexicans. Independence contribution? How about José María Morelos y Pavón & Vicente Guerrero Lázaro Cárdenas? Food? Menudo and Moronga come from the west of Africa, tripe pepper soup but in MX corn was added.
References please
yea my cousin has really curly hair and big lips she almost looks like a black girl but moca color very pretty too and her family is frm jalisco mexico.
@pinchediablazo Obviously there is mixture and its more prevalent in particular areas. But to state that Mexico and the Mexican people are collectively a Mestizo nation is incorrect. Nice try tho.
one of de guys in my granma family a bussey left a plantation in mexican an came to ga. we could b familia
What's the song? It's nice.
But,they all (africans blacks) for various different reasons, could not be integrated as a distinct racial group, and "VISIBLE" from the rest of the Mexican population.
thats right be proud of your history because alot of people deny anything black because of slavery
The black Mexicans I’ve met have been from Guerrero or Tijuana .
The ones in Tijuana are from Central America trying to make it to the US.

What color's the sky in your world? George Lopez and Eva Longoria have dna evidence of black ancestry. And mexico had a black president.
IN MEXICO THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE IS A COUNTRY OF MIX PEOPLE.
@interstellarwonder
Uncle Tom was actually a hero.
