Do you love Scooby-Doo? Are you a fan of the Archies? Then check out The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan! With the winning combination of sleuthing kids (who often get in more trouble than they get out of), sarcastic quips, international locales and a band - with music by Don Kirshner who also wrote songs for the Archies and the Monkees - this original Hanna-Barbera animated series from the 1970s features Keye Luke (Kung Fu) as Mr. Chan, the head of a groovy group of kids, who travels the world with his clan solving mysteries, depending on their Chan van to transform into the vehicle du jour at the touch of a button. The groundbreaking series also features, among others, the voices of Don Missick, Lennie Weinrib, Robert Ito and Jodie Foster, as the young tomboy Anne Chan. So if, as the teenage Stanley would say, “Wham, bam, you’re in a jam,” just tune out the troubles and tune in to The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan!
Directed By Joseph Barbera, William Hanna

you know who's really amazing? Mrs. Chan for giving birth to all those kids
LoL
What about Uncle Chan?
Terrance Jordan Ya know this cartoon never did show the mother😕
gibbs615 I know, what's up with that
Terrance Jordan They should've also had a crossover thing with SCOOBY & THE GANG!
Of the plethora of Scooby Doo clones Hannah Barbara pumped out in the 70s, this one had the best theme song.
I agree it's funky as hell
Scooby-Duplicates. Tell me that's not clever.
I'd say the theme was Butch Cassidy
Definitely agree!
At least these meddling kids solved mysteries with help from their dad.
One of the first American cartoons to feature Asian-Americans in non-stereotypical roles...
Now, we have Fresh Off the Boat.
With AMERICAN actors
@@deniswilson8152 To be fair, this show started out with Asian-American actors. It's just that most of them had to be replaced since their accents were deemed hard to understand.
@@thema1998 (it was thought) that the accents would be hard to follow... an executive decision... not one made by fans... strictly a BIASED panicked position that follywood always takes... carradine for bruce lee... a woman for the ancient one ... ill stop there
@@deniswilson8152 All I said was that their accents were deemed hard to understand. I *never* said that what they did was justified.
I think every damn family in America in the 1970s were solving mysteries....
My fam owned an abandoned amusement park. Just sayin'.
And playing as a band.
Everyone had a mystery solving series. I'm not making this up.
@NS 317 If anything it would probably be the opposite. Everyone saw what was happening and they gravitated towards the most effective and popular one.
Let’s just say in the 70s Hanna Barbera had borrowed concepts from themselves more times than you could probably count
Ironically Keye Luke, who voiced Charlie himself, had played Chan's "number one son" in a series of movies back in the 1940s.
Correction please, Keye Luke played Charlie's #1 son in the 1930's not the 1940's.
I always liked how unique each of the children looked and how they ran in the intro making them easily identifiable from each other.
Haters: This show is racist!
This comment above. 👆🔝⬆️☝️
Also Suzi Chan is the original Asian Daphne.
@@philipmarable8698 Why do they think it’s racist?
You here?
I just remembered that one of the brothers on that show had a catch phrase . He would always say, "Wham, bam, we're in a jam." when they have a case to solve, or when they are in trouble. Why did I suddenly remember that?
He was REALLY trying to make that catch-phrase into a thing.
Because your watching the theme song probably
Ah, a simpler time, when an improbably large family of Asians could solve a mystery together.
Yeah. these modern 2.4 children Asian families couldn't solve a mystery if their lives depended on it. Went and got lazy, the lot of them!
@Lawrence Keagan It's fun but it does suffer from HB tropes of the 70s including unncessary musical numbers, splitting everyone up and dad solving the mystery while barely appearing in the cartoon.
@@TerrickTerran lol what about those convoluted traps that failed spectacularly, but then somehow still worked? Did it have any of those?
Or what about that weird boing-y sound effect when theyre tumbling down a hill?
@@ChadDidNothingWrong been a long while since I've watched the episodes but I wouldn't be surprised.
I heard there’s 137 of them now
Ya know in "The New Scooby-Doo Movies" cartoon series, Scooby & the gang really should've came across THEM too!
So agree with you there.
Maki Shepard Yeah I mean they met BATMAN & ROBIN, THE GLOBETROTTERS, JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS, JEANNIE, SPEED BUGGY and any I missed, so why couldn't they make an episode of them meeting THE AMAZING CHAN & THE CHAN CLAN too?!
Yeah
@@gibbs615 Batman and Robin twice, The Globe Trotters thrice (I believe), Don Knotts twice so your right why not sub one of them out for the Chan Clan, I think its probably because this was yet to be aired (dont hold me to that)
@@G.F.Browning The globetrotters WAS twice and perhaps WB animation could still make the next Scooby Doo crossover movie so they meet THEM next!
I feel really old, but I was born in 2000 and when I was a kid, this was on my tv screen on either Cartoon Network or Boomerang. My sister and I would always get excited since it has Asian representation since we’re Asian-American ourselves. Brings me back to the days of being close up, eating dinner (Thit Kho Trung) on a minature table, and seeing a different episode every time.
Man, Hanna Barbera made cartoons out of everything and everybody. I watched all these cartoons in the 70's LOL
This cartoon is so underrated.
A 70s show with asians that isn't stereotypical? Wow! That's a novelty.
Vetuyasha it might not be full of race stereotypes. But it's full of hanna-Barbera ones. Also theres interesting post-ww2 shorts about a Japanese house mouse that's pretty interesting
Voiced by AMERICAN actors btw
@@deniswilson8152 One of the voice actors was a young Jodie Foster. 🤓
@Bill McKay yes but hes still America lol
@Bill McKay his family came to the us during the great depression
Such an underrated show.
The music & the cat always gets me !!! Lol
Chu Chu wasn't a cat, he was a dog, a Pekingese.
Honestly, Mr.Chan seems like such a cool dude...
Keye Luke was Charlie Chan's eldest son in the Warner Oland films, He was excellent as Mr. Chan passing the torch to his kids.
10 kids? The Amazing Chan is right
This is why china has the one kid law...🤔😁
Amazing *Clam is more fitting...lol
@@dennistaylor5065 Good question
@@dennistaylor5065 the mom is in bed with morning sickness , expecting their next child.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey look, a cartoon about kids and an animal solving mysteries, and they play music too! I didn't think they had anything like that in the 70s.
Josie and the Pussycats, The Archies, The Brady Kids. They all had adventures, solved mysteries, etc. and played at least one song in each episode of their respective shows. What a time
to have been alive!
Hannah Barbera was all about the quantity and less on quality
@@williammeier4534 Not to mention Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids!
Did they rewrote history too?
Nowadays it's a cartoon about neglectful father who takes his 10 kids on world trotting adventures and lets them run into danger.
It's like "Johnny Quest" times 5.
He was truly the Amazing Chan.
Basically Scooby Doo mixed with Charlie Chan.
Scooby & the gang really should've came across THEM too!
A good number of H-B cartoons were retreads of the same theme - The Roman Holidays, Wait Til Your Father Gets Home, etc. And the musical bits are practically the same as Josie and the Pussy Cats, the Archies, Butch Cassidy and the Brady Kids.
Diego Bareno more like Scooby Doo mixed with Josie and the Pussycats
Along with Josie and the Pussycat, because of the songs.
I loved this show! The theme music is the bomb!
Why shouldn't it be? It was done by Don Kirshner!
Where did those 50 years go?
Saturday morning on our living room sofa, curled up in a blanket and watching cartoons. The 1970s were so "groovy"!
eating super orange crisp cereal
You got that right!
Even in Colombia ! it was the best era! thank you USA for the great cartoons
Count Chocula, Boo Berry, and Fruit Brute cereal 😊
Have you noticed Charlie chan doesn't actually move in this intro? its just still images
He doesn't look very limber.
wish these cartoons were back on tv !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, why the hell did Boomerang start showing modern/current toons now. They almost never show classics now.
Because sadly Boomerang was rebranded and I think it's worse than Cartoon Network now.
What I'd do to have that happen.
@@zacharyyamashita8554 WHAT?!!!😣
Maybe we’ll see on them on jellystone !
A predecessor family to The Loud House.
Maki Shepard Smh, the Chan Clan >>>>> The Loud House
Maki Shepard no just fucking no
No, not really. The Chan Clan is too different from the Loud House, they have very little in common other that that they're both big families.
really? Cause I thought it was cheaper dozen cheaper by the dozen
But the Louds didn’t go around the world sleuthing
Of course, Scooby Doo was the template for all the other shows that came after it, including this one. A bunch of teens, some of whom are musicians, the family pet, a cool hotrod, and a mystery to solve. On a side note, I used to run around the house singing that theme song. I even imitated the buzzing sound when the van transformed lol.
Just like all the shows from that era (Everything's Archie, Groovy Ghoulies, Josie & the Pussycats, Scooby Doo Where are You? Brady Bunch, Brady Kids, Partridge Family, Partridge Family 2200 AD) they have to play songs too!
38yofrmut The 70's cartoons were all about GROOVY MUSIC!!! lol
And they have to all be in a band and have their show logo on the drums
YES! I noticed that too, it was required for every Hanna-Barbera cartoon, that or a “groovy looking” van
The same guys created the soundtracks.
Why is the singer whispering? This show ain't no secret.
they don't wanna speak too loudly of the Amazing Chan clans ancient sleuthing abilities.
U don’t want others to find out they’re onto something... right? 😄
@@maus_drummer Shhh! 😰
The original Whisper Song not the Ying Yang Twins LOL stay safe people
Ssssshhhhhh.....🤫
That was such a cool cartoon. Those were the good old days
How the hell was this the only time Charlie Chan was actually played by a Chinese person?
And he was the actor who'd originally played Number One Son in the old movies!
Keye Luke
It's really insane that not long before this, the unsold pilot "THE RETURN OF CHARLIE CHAN" (which I am convinced this cartoon was a SPIN-OFF of) starred Ross Martin. Perhaps if they'd cast Keye Luke in that, it might have become a series.
I know that it might seem like it'll never ever happen in a TV show, movie, video game, or even a comic book in the future or something like that, but I would totally like to see The Amazing Chan and The Chan Clan team up with Scooby-Doo & Mystery Inc. someday.
10 kids? When did Charlie Chan, find the time to do detective work?
These old shows have been remastered in HD (it's obvious) yet they get no Blu-ray release.
For some reason this song randomly popped into my head. I have not thought about this show in years. I don't know what the heck triggered the thought into my mind. But here I am.
SAME!!!
Same
Yep, same
One of the best intro songs in an animated show. Right up there with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? and Darkwing Duck 🔥
This made me order take out
Amazing show... back when life was more fun
This song lives rent free in my noggin, and sometimes I'll whistle it at work to see if anyone recognizes it. So far, nope.
You take the Golden AN, in the CHAN VAN. You give it to STAN, who takes it ANNE. That's the CHAN PLAN!
My new ring tone..
Mark C and it goes off in a Chinese Restaurant
Good call. I've used the H-B Harlem Globetrotters theme for years and whenever somebody hears it they want it. Now I'm thinking either Amazing Chan or Hong Kong Phooey.
I love when Chu Chu the Dog says “Oh Oh Oh”.
Such a groovy theme song.
I wonder whose voice that is? Maybe Don Messick?
The most random thing is the van transforms into a truck carrying a damn merry-go-round .. like that's some random lmao
RIP Keye Luke!
Keye Luke appeared in "Gremlins" (1984) and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" (1990).
I’d Still Totally Would’ve Like To See The Amazing Chan And The Chan Clan Teaming Up With Scooby-Doo And The Gang On The New Scooby-Doo Movies
John Manning I know right. Plus this show is also similar to Josie and the Pussycats due to the band. Except Josie had three members while these guys had five.
That's what I say myself, WB animation needs to do that for the next Scooby crossover movie!
@@cartooncentral263 didnt both shows came out around the same year?
@@clarencecoats6498 Pretty much
One of my favorite cartoons , simpler times
Those kids do a ton of cardio
I remember this cartoon back in the day!!! I really loved it.👍💖😊. I forgot what grade I was in when this would come on. I found that theme song so catchy!!! No doubt 😊. I miss those old cartoons 😔. Peace out for now y'all 👋✌😎. Much love from Bunn NC.
I never saw this cartoon back in the day, but I discovered a 2-disc DVD set on Amazon containing all the episodes, so I bought it. I think it's really awesome. :-D
I’d be down for a remake of this
Tzi Ma, the guy who played Yao in the series "Silicon Valley, " (and who also played the little girl's father in Rush Hour" would be perfect for the role of Charlie Chan.
No wonder kids in the 70s slammed booze, abused drugs, and took rides from strangers, watching this was all they had to do
I wish they would lay off _Scooby-Doo_ for a moment and bring back some of the other Hanna-Barbera mystery-solving shows, particularly my three favs: _Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan_ , _Funky Phantom_ , and _Clue Club_ .
A new _Clue Club_ tv series would be nice, a _Funky Phantom_ movie would be great, and I'd love both a new tv series of _Chan Clan_ as well as a _Chan Clan_ movie (maybe a movie with some origin revealing _all_ of the Chan kids' ages and showing what happened to Mrs. Chan, who is probably deceased) and no live-action.
An animated _Josie and the Pussycats_ movie (based off the tv series, not the comic) would also be nice (even nicer if they remember to put Sebastian in it) and, although I don't like either one, a _Jabberjaw_ and _Speed Buggy_ movie would also be pretty nice.
Hanna-Barbera may not have the rights to use the Chan Clan characters anymore, considering Charlie Chan was originally from a series of novels and isn't one of their trademarked characters.
Similarly, Josie and the Pussycats belongs to Archie Comics, so it may not be Hanna-Barbera's call to do a new series with that IP either.
That's not to say that they - or another animation studio - couldn't get the rights to do a new series at some point. Just that it'd likely involve licensing deals and wouldn't be as simple as just greenlighting a new show.
It’s not they’re fault Scooby Doo is super popular
@@DrMechano What WB animation needs to do is make another Scooby crossover movie that has Scooby & the gang meeting the Amazing Chan & the Chan Clan or perhaps The Real Ghostbusters, that's what they need to do!
@@gibbs615 No the classic cliche movie Scooby Doo meets Batman and Robin.
make inch high private eye live action movie
Strangely, given my surname I used to be nicknamed Chan. Scots born and a family name which has some suggestion of Scandinavian origin it does seem strange. Some used to think it was because my younger brother and I practised Karate at the time. However non dojo older brother was the original ( he thinks a school pal used to sing ch..ch..ch..chanderson to a count down tune used in school broadcasts and that was abbreviated to Chan ). For my age group it was this cool theme tune that was levelled at me by classmates. Can't say that was any bother to me. My younger brother was the 3rd ( probably the smartest too which shows sequels can outstrip the original ).The name fell out of use by adulthood but our older brother still gets this nickname by friends from way back.
Thanks, Warner Archive, for making it impossible to take a screenshot now.
I wish Scooby Doo and Clue Club did a crossover.
Why didn't they?
I might not have watched Clue Club, but I think that would be a very awesome cartoon crossover to watch.
Who’s here in 2022 wondering if this would fly now? Lol
