Yay! I did it. I made ONE. Several attempts of course. I did watch a couple other videos. And I did discover that using a double thread did NOT work for me. I strung on 4, then go back through two and make 2 knots to form the square. Then, proceed with the pattern. The connector beads was Very helpful in finishing the product and figuring out where the sections attach. I'm going to marvel at my accomplishment and then make more of them. Thank you, Kelly!!
Miss Kelly, you are an amazing communicator! You manage to give just enough information without adding extraneous words. That is a difficult balance to maintain. I so appreciate you respecting my time!
I don’t know if it’s the southern charm but you explain this so well. Normally my craft path is based on what I see not what I can do and I learn a whole technique or even craft. We will see though when I do the pattern I want! Thank you for sharing your skills and patience ❤🙏
So happy to have found this! I just made a little warped square, and I am delighted with this first experiment, but …. wrong beads, wrong thread, and I don’t have a nifty little thread zapper. Yet. I’m off to fix these deficiencies.
Thank you for the video and the high definition. So much easier to see. I have Diane Fitzgerald s book and I cannot find this star nor the component that makes star. But to be honest I find her instructions difficult to understand and very, very few photos to help connect the dots. Thanks again. The video helps a lot.
Fantastic camera work, excellent colour choices, an interesting glance at the history of this shape, and referrals to other sets of instructions. Talk about generosity! Thank you for this clear, concise tutorial for a basic 3D puffy star!
I am just getting the beading bug. I am starting with the peyote star. I watched several different videos and I must say that your video using Diane Fitzgerald's pattern was great. It was fun to watch and your presentation was very easy to understand. I am subscribing to your channel and am looking forward to watching what is next.
Kelly, thank you so much. I am so new to beading!!!! I decided to try this out, with your video. Using a different pattern. And it is working out great. You, Kelly, are a great teacher!!!! I cannot thank you enough.
You're killing me here! I haven't done a thing all day, I can't stop watching your videos!! I sent you an email on your website, I'm hoping you can find time to respond, even just a little! Now I get to thank you for the next week or two trying to make these stars!! So many beads, so little time! Hugs & thanks, Kristine King
Dare I say, you're the best teacher out there. Your tutorials are informative, I really see myself trying this project. Thanks are in order. Be blessed.
Takes the mystery out of how these stars are made. Thanks Kelly for the super clear tutorial. Not sure if they are my cup of tea but may have to try one just to say I did it. Never know till you try. Looking forward to seeing Julianna. I remember years ago on Alleenes craft show when she first came out with the loom.✨🤗✨
Thank you for making it easier. I made 4 different sizes this year for gifts. I found it’s easier and faster to use 6/0 beads and it makes a nice size star. My first one was made with delica beads and they turned out way too small for an ornament. I’m going to try 8/0s next and see how that works. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video. You were born to be a teacher. You have such a natural talent for teaching. I've watched many of your videos and always come away feeling like time well spent. I was reading instructions for the stars, but I'm left handed and instructions are almost always for right handed beading, and the images in the instructions I'm reading are also for right handed. Actually watching you bead, I can visualize flipping the work to a left hand version. You made it easy to follow. Thank you for your time even though it's not your favourite project. ;o)
I have been wanting to make these agrarian. Thank you. You are a great teacher and the tutorial is very clear. I have learned so much from your tutorials.😍
Love these stars, but I've always too chicken to even begin to try to stitch one! Thanks, Kelly, for sharing a visually very clear and understandable video on how to make one of these stars.
I've been wanting to make these stars for a while..and thankfully I already have Dianne's book. I've already done her Starfish..and you've just simplified her star!!! Thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorials that you post. I’ve learnt so much from them. You explain so well and make your videos easy to follow. Keep teaching.
I have tried to figure this pattern put for years and haven't been able to. You made it crystal clear within minutes! From one teacher to another you have a gift! I was wondering if you have a tutorial on the beaded kaleidocycle? I've looked everywhere for understandable instructions and can't find them anywhere. I was hoping to make a few for my fidget basket in my classroom this year.
I am so glad you did this video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thanks for jumping in and doing this video even though it was not something you really wanted to do thank you for all the links as well good job Kelly 👍🏼stay safe and healthy ✌🏼out for now 🙋🏻♀️
am I right in thinking that when you put together parts 3 and 4 you don't go on to add the last lot of connector beads? otherwise you won't be able to zip them in place to the already zipped up 1 and 2?
Your video is my ‘To Go To Video’ to help me every time I make a star. I don’t know why you were hesitant about making the video, as you are an excellent teacher. Thank you Thank you!!! Oh, I bought a PDF of ‘Shaped Beadwork & Beyond’ from Diane 02-29-24
These stars are addictive and while I adore Diane, I'm not a fan of her doubled thread method. She uses that in EVERYTHING! I have one of her books and have taken an in-person class with her. I've made several of these stars now. Doubled thread is absolutely unnecessary, IMO. They're tight enough without it. Thanks for the video!
At first, I thought this was like the starfish, but then I remembered making these before and how it's a hinged piece and we make 5 of them and then peyote them together.
I decided to make mine 7 (B) beads long instead of the 5 you showed and SOMEHOW I wound up with a 6 point star? Can you explain how that happened? Thx 😮
Would the star be to floppy if used just a single thread? I am to scared to use a double because mistakes that will be made. Most of the time, when I try to retrace my steps, I end up stitching through an other part of the tread so it all gets stuck. I can not step back from that without cutting the thread to free the needle and pull out the mistake. Does that make sense? So could this be done with a thicker thread instead?
I only use a single thread. I use Wildfire and Fireline 6lb. It works really well for me. The only issue I have with the black thread is the outer black layer rubs off and gets a bit fluffy the more you weave it in and out.
I am beyond thrilled that you did the Star video. I love stars! I've been wanting to learn how to design one. You are really good at teaching jewelry. Ever think about moving to Florida? Thanks so much for sharing your talents! 🥰

Kelly, do you have a pattern for the earrings you are wearing in this video? Or did you do a video for the earrings? I really, really like them.

If you choose to use a single thread you will need to use a thicker thread to help hold the tension on the piece.

Where did you find you cord cutter?
Sell cord cutters on my website.
Love your channel, but do you think you could do a peyote pod? Three sided?
I don't know what my issue is but i can't find your links under your videos. I used to see them? Can anyone help?

Hey I made my first star but it doesn’t keep its form well at all even doubling the thread. I suspect it’s the thread I’ve used (Nymo) can you recommend or anyone recommend a thread I can get in the uk (weight etc too) that I can try again as it’s my only issue. Thanks again
Yep that’s the issue. You really need to you fire line, wild fire, or Dragon Thread. I would try Spoilt Rotten Beads in the UK
Where are the links Kelly kept mentioning?
Right under the video in the video description box

❤ as a native woman we use big pony's to teach. Better visual ✨️
Diane’s book is expensive.
$25 is standard for a book. If you buy more than one, they cost $20 each. That seems extremely fair considering how many patterns you're getting.
