    Hey bro- thank you for making these videos. I'm a first year Pipe Trades student here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Just finishing up our first year, out of two, and learning the VERY basics of welding. I hope to be doing this kind of work some day soon. Really appreciate you sharing your expertise. Keep up the good work!

    Great video. What grade of stainless is the true bore? I get the same oxidation on a job using a 200 series stainless. No matter what cup size or amount of gas it always goes to a darker purple oxide. Gets ground off anyway but it annoys me i cant get those lovely golds sometimes.

    Blue strip and clean wheel will clean that weld much better than pickle paste. We band the heat affected zone off and blue wheel all the way round. Looks much better in my opinion

    As for the color, it doesn't matter at all

    • @oohjah

    • @matteogiuliani6803
      @matteogiuliani6803 3 месяца назад

      @@oohjah can't disagree with that. What I meant is that you don't HAVE to aim for a golden weld, even a grey-purple colour is ok, as long as the root is good ( of course there are exceptions like in pharmaceutics)

      I wouldn't worry about the colour, you're a professional welder, not a weld porn content creator ;)
      Getting a greyish purple weld with thin wall pipe, no gap, whilst punching in a good root and cap with one go? Near impossible not to do.
      As long as the weld isn't cooked (pure dark-grey going on black) then the stainless still has enough chromium left to keep its ability to reform its oxide layer after passivation, and that's all your need :)
      If you want chrome or straw colours, you need a gap for the root, less heat and a second weld pass to make the cap with cleaning between passes, and and small quartered welds to avoid warping... its alot of messing around for no reason just to get an Instagram worthy weld, when yours are already more than acceptable...
      I'm a tig welder but getting into more MAG work recently, and I'm super impressed with your other videos on MAG pipe! Keep it up brother :)

      If it was a pressure vessel, they would need to be 90° to each other.
      But something like this.I tend to find the pipe.Alignment is a lot better seem to seem

    I normally go pulse straight with 2-3pps. more amps, lay wire and fast travel speed. But you really need to dial it perfectly to get full penetration and keep fast travel rate. But when you dial it in you can get x3 speed. And as we know it speed=time=money :)

    I have some basic question, why for standard carbon steel pipe you use gap between fitting and pipe for butt weld, and for stainless steel is zero gap? the thickness of the pipe is the reason?

    • @gabrieleliaskaznadji9945
      @gabrieleliaskaznadji9945 3 месяца назад +2

      Pipe is thin enough to get penetration with no gap, it will warp alot less, and the welding process is faster

      If you go quick you are able to join the pipes before the inside sugars up. Hot n quick, for example when doing 1.6mm sanitary I use 100 amps, place the cup on the surface and lean back 45-60 degrees and give the trigger a quick hit. Strong tack with zero peneration and sugaring on the inside. If you hold a piece of filler wire on the seam and aim the tungsten 2mm or so up from the end of the filler and zap, it will have a similar effect. Different thicknesses need different averages.

    • @gabrieleliaskaznadji9945
      @gabrieleliaskaznadji9945 3 месяца назад +1

      Flash tacks, they are melted on the surface only, and will be remelted when welding over them

  • @ennea9155
    @ennea9155 3 месяца назад

    Stick your tungsten out further(keeps the weld longer covered with gas) Clean the millscale and you will get nice colour

      the weld thats curing behind your cup? sticking your needle out even further would make the angle awkard, his torch was setup properly in my opinion
