YEah that's obvious to even me. I only ever drove a 4-wheeled fleet vehicle, but even 4-wheelers need a second person to hit the brakes to check the lights work. I could see someone running into this trouble on the road and asking a rando to hit the brakes, don't need to leave keys in for that... Unless big rigs are different and require keys for the brake lights or nighttime lights to activate.

I'm on the fence, I'm truckers wife. If that was the case he should had HER go to the back to check the lights and he climbed in the truck. I'm with wife. I would be pretty mad at the situation too.
In 7 years of OTR, I’ve had only one “lizard” knock on my door. This was in Bakersfield, CA, at some seedy off-the-grid truck stop. I heard a knock on my door at like 0200-0300; I pulled back the curtain, lowered the window, and she was like, “Hey, wanna party?” I said, “I’m good, thanks,” and she walked off without another word. Despite what people think, lizards are rare in trucking these days. Truck stops have been cleaned up considerably.

i’ve had male and females knock on my truck, some even beating on it. all within this year, some at truck stops, some at rest stops along the interstates

Most people are not aware that the Volvo has a "pre trip assistant" located in the menu, accessed by the windshield wiper stick. It will flash every light on your truck and trailer while you do your walk around.
You can easily tell the man Is doing inspection as soon as she get by him his eyes are on the trailer and immediately he start walking to the trailer. He didn't fraternize or flirt with her he was focused on the trailer. The guy is innocent the video speaks for itself. Please pay attention to the video and stop assuming anything without evidence.
It would have made more sense for him to step on the brakes and have her go back and look at the lights.

His inspection isn't him, just stepping on a break. He has no way of seeing it. His eyes need to be on that. Speaking of how does that happen if your lights go out? How do you step on the break to even check the lights? Well I guess at night time it would reflect off of something. But seriously I would think in an inspection your eyes have to be on it.

I’ve paid a homeless dude to watch my bumper backing into a tight dock before where a resident across the street intentionally moved his car across from the dock hoping someone would hit his car. Apparently he does it every time he sees a truck pull in. It was down the street when I checked in and directly in front of the dock when I came out. Considering how many drivers gleefully break out their phones hoping to record a screw up instead of helping, I’m willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
Don't ever let a stranger in your truck PERIOD!! She could have went to the back and looked at the lights. I have never let someone unknown in my truck. And as far as why she went into to his truck. People need to learn to keep your eyes on your own paper! Everything ain't what it always seems. The video cuts off way to short. But really it's nobody else's business what he was doing. And as far as his girlfriend or wife. Nobody is going to change her mind. If she truly loves him. They will work it out or the truth will come out. I hope the best for this driver. But hope he took this as a lesson learned. Even good deeds can be turned into misconception.

That's crazy i got pulled over for a busted light n when i got my bulbs i lady was present (she happened to be a driver) n i needed to find out if my lights we're working so i could pull back off. I just simply asked her to walk n da back n see if they we're working correctly. That's all it took... I def wasn't about to let her hop on my truck my belongings are in there lol cum on man think!!! Smh

I'm not a trucker, but I know that most American vehicles that use red turn signals in the rear are using the same filament of the bulb as the brake lights, so I would just turn on the hazard lights and check. Next best option is to use a 2x4, a crowbar, a torque wrench, or anything to push the pedal down and use the seat to hold it in place.
This could absolutely be a legit excuse. I'm always solo and having to ask for exactly this kind of help from whomever is near by

I stay at truck stops all the time, almost exclusively when I am headed from point A to point B in my RV… and I have been approached by these ladies a few times. But one time, I smiled and told her she was barking up the wrong tree, and she almost seemed delighted. I told her I was microwaving some frozen food, and if she wanted some dinner. She was so flattered and I guess grateful that I was treating her with respect and offered to sit down and eat dinner with her… She got in my van, I pulled another frozen dinner out of The freezer and microwaved it for three minutes, then stirred it up and microwaved it for another one minute. So in less than five minutes we were both sitting at my table eating these microwave dinners right out of their boxes, lol, and just talking. She was very nice. She asked me what I did for a living and I told her I was a singer/voiceover artist, and she asked me a couple of curious questions about it. And then I asked her what she did for a living, and she told me. And you know me, I’m fucking nosy, so I asked her for some details/curious questions, lol. She was incredibly open and real with me. I asked her what her biggest obstacle in life is, and she told me that she had a drug addiction. And then we went online and looked for places around where we were where she could get some help if she wanted to. She said she wanted to. Now remember, she was so nice the whole time. There was stuff laying around that she could’ve stolen, but she did not. She asked me what my biggest obstacle in life was, and I told her that I had recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease and it’s messing with every aspect of my life. She asked me why I didn’t tell her that being on the road and being away from my spouse and our pets wasn’t the biggest obstacle… And I told her because I knew he was taking good care of himself and our animals. And then she asked to see pictures of my boyfriend and our animals. it was a really great time.
So, for those who blanket people or situation, not everything is as it seems. there is a high probability that the gentleman in the video was telling the truth.

It was midday, and the driver asked if she could apply the brakes for him. He walked to the back and checked the lights while she climbed up. He probably gave her a $5 tip so she could get a coffee and a donut, thanked her, and went about his business.

i.m a retired trucker of 35 years, seen it 100's of times, the driver would have never walked off for her to get in the truck. it's usually a quick deal and in the bunk, you don't see this as often today as back in the 70's and 80's. most drivers know where the lizard's hang out and avoid staying there.
He completely screwed up. She could've taken his rig or robbed him. Never leave keys in rig & door unlocked.

I’m a new driver an I learn different tricks to the trade already, to avoid this you can take your phone prop it behind the trailer on video record an push your brakes, left signal, right signal, reverse lights, 4 ways, etc and watch it afterwards to make sure your pre trip is complete with no outages!

the sad thing is, that no one is ever told, is that if you pull your trolly brake all the way down ( trailer hand brake ) it will lock into place and your brake lights will come on, so you can get out and check if they are working

What the driver said happened is pretty obvious as to what happened. A guy trying to get his rocks off with a lizard isn’t walking to the back of his truck after agreeing to a conjugal visit from a lizard. Solo truckers are alone for days at a time and are ignored by everyone... to assume that he was being watched is quite out of the ordinary. I don’t think he did anything with the lizard but check brake lights. Especially if he has a mocha honey at home. My advice to the driver is to get back to dating your wife... every week.

To check my brake lights, I wrap the seat belt around the trolley bar to keep it engaged. It will show your brake lights.
Your explanation is spot on. Obviously, he talked to her very quickly and then walked to the back of his truck to check the lights. Innocent driver in this case. If he was interested in the other assumed event, they probably would have had a fairly long conversation and she would have followed him into the truck cab.

Don’t know about Volvos but Kenworths have a setting you can press where all your lights come on so you can do a pre trip. All turn signals flash, brake lights come on and off, high beams and low beams alternate. Very helpful to do your pre trips. I drove an International Prostar and it didn’t have that option. Hopefully it becomes standard on all trucks.

I use the trolley brake handle to check my brake lights. I know not all trucks have them anymore. I just hang something on the handle, and walk back to check it myself.

When he does PTI anywhere else, how does he get his brakes checked? How do other single drivers perform PTIs?
My light checks are early in the morning, part of how I check the brake lights is to use whatever backdrop I have to see if my truck and trailer are working, and if I have doubts, I ask my friends in the yard I work.
T Bar in the cab or use something to wedge the brake pedal down.
I have a 4X4 long enough and heavy enough in the belly box to put against the pedal and activate the brake lights. It also doubles as a wheel chock to slide the tandems after I PB blast the rails on an old trailer that the brakes won’t quite hold tight enough to get the tandems to slide. A lot of these new trucks don’t have Johnny bars (aka trolly valves) now.
Telescopic ice scraper. It works perfect for wedging between the brake pedal and the seat.

Most trucks that new have a lamp test button you could push while the truck is off with the key turning the on position and it will test all the lights for you. All you got to do is go to the back of the truck and it will go through all the lights. Most of the time it's located next to your headlight switch
My copilot was an 85lb amstaff mix she didn’t like folks knocking on the door usually I’d walk her right before I’d take a nap and no one bothered us. I’m sure it didn’t hurt how athletic she was I’d open the door and she jump up on the seat. If you did make the mistake of climbing on the running boards she chew on the class to try to get to you lol
this is sad for 2 reasons... a lot lizard was a lady for one moment to help a truck driver, instead of an actual truck driver. And, 2, truck drivers bullied him for it. This is not helping this industry feel inviting or encouraging new guys (like me) want to get into trucking. Thank god I found positivity and people my age who enjoy being both owners & company drivers because the rest of you guys are not helping. I've been driving for 1.5 months now and have already watched truckers ignore me when I'm having to get out and look (aka, spot myself) in a tight spot while at the same time having a 2nd driver blow his horn at me because I'm taking up too much of his time. Be a mentor guys, it's all us new guys want. We will thank you, I do. I get more help from the guys on company lots I deliver too and random co-workers I see on the road than I do from any of you other guys.

A lot lizard came up to me while I was on my reset and asked me did I want some company I said no then she asked me if I wanted my interior cleaned I declined again. It was dead winter & she had only a t-shirt so I gave her a sweatshirt she left and the next trucker that pulled in she hopped in with them after the trucker parked. Moral of the story is what one won’t do another one will but don’t judge everyone the same

For you guys out there, the brake light circuit goes through the hazard flashers. If you also hit the turn signals, chances are pretty good you got brake lights. However, there's a tool out there called a pedal depressor that can be sourced from various sources from a Harbor Freight brand I seen for $10 to a Lisle that looks a good amount stronger for $50. I had one when I was doing Mo. Vehicle Safety Inspections when I was a mechanic. All you do is push down on the brake & it sets itself. When you're done, push down again, hit the release trigger & voila!
She is cheaper than Harbor Freight and she is a multi purpose provider 😂

If the hazards work then maybe the turn signal works but keep in mind that sometimes that switch goes bad so you may just want to use the turn signal to check turn signals and hazards to check hazards . The brake lights are on a different circuit and sometimes the brake switch itself goes bad , in which the brake pedal actually needs to be depressed to check the switch and it's actually easier to depress brake pedal to check brake bulb/switch or you can remove bulb and visually inspect just the bulbs ; as well for turn/hazards bulbs .

you don't need to go inside the truck to press the brake pedal on a volvo you can press it with hand while standing right next to it easily it only takes 5psi to trigger the switch for brake lights

Most newer trucks have a light system check switch on the dash that alternates between tail, hazard, and brake lights I think. Why not use that.
