As a tip! If your chickens are breaking their eggs, a quick fix is to buy a fake egg, you can get them on amazon, marble or something, and leave it in the nest. It wont hatch, but they're try to peck it and to no avail. Our chickens struggled with breaking their eggs and a fake egg fixed that.

Over here, yesterday morning, temp was 32ºF (0ºC). Saw lot of geese flying down south. Yes, autumn is setting in. MAGNIFICENT sunset in the "overture". Just paused the video to enjoy it because that beauty deserves it. You live on a rocky terrain which is not ideal for growing what's not indigenous like those pine trees. Terrain difficult to work with. But until now you seem to have succeeded in everything you've done so far on your land. That's cool because that kind on terrain demands a lot more work and physical efforts to achieve something with it. It would be allright for Highland cattle though, at least I think. Planting a tree in hens courtyard shows the care you take of your animals... That's sure one of many things why people, including me, love you. I've been told that little eggs were the first ever laid by the hen but I can't prove that. Planting that pine tree the way you did is the best way to assure its survival. Same soil that it's used to, nutrients, mineral, and something to keep moisture where it's needed. You are doing A1. Issues with the hens. I'm not a chichen man nor pretending to be one but living in a restraint setting and, as in any other species, wanting to establish dominance might be the cause. But take that for what it worths, not a lot. Loved the bit of "there's a bug on the lens". We can feel all the sweetness and kindness of Matt. That doesn't mean Blue is not. But he expresses it in a different way. Look at him when he plays with Crow. Look at his face when sometime he looks at Matt. Pure tenderness. They're meant to be together. They complete each other. And here comes the ad which never jump over because 1- it's fully part of the video and 2- sometimes I learn new things in cooking. Here in Québec we have regional recipes which are inexpensive and taste really good like: soupe aux gourganes, pouding chômeur, tourtières... (Google will find that for you). That chicken breasts with carrots and rice seems so yummy it makes me hungry. (It's almost 11h00 am here so less 2 hours in Florissant). Concerning the long room, I think Blue is right. The concept might habe been, with all those windows (south oriented?), to heat the house like an extra heating. Can't see other utility it could have been used for. When I saw the rooster in the cage I thought: I hope they don't keep it in the house cause it's not a very good idea. But you did... It was a good idea to show the sunset (still magnificent) to get ourself into the situation. It's early in the morning and what does a rooster do early in the morning? No answer needed I think, lol. A nice colourfull rooster though. Lovely violin (fiddle?) at the end. Very appropriate. Morning seems to be cold... Jacket with fur inside but wearing shorts... Love that rugged perch for the hens... Is it what Blue and Crow were assembling together in the last video? Rugged but somewhere artistically beautiful. Utilitary things don't have to be ugly. And video concluding with a beautiful smile. Thanks for the sharing it always makes my day. I don't wait for them but it makes me so happy when they come... :-)
Beautiful rooster but my nephew's chickens had their feather's all plucked off their backs by him trying to mate. They eventually bought some bibs and put on the hen's it helped but they had to get rid of the rooster. So good luck. Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your world. Be safe
as a person who grew up with chickens once they start eating eggs they don't stop. i know this because we would feed them the old used eggs shells but i was always told to crush the shells fine so the cant tell that its egg shells. the reasons we would feed the used egg shell was because it help strengthen the eggs they lay
Awesome! I can't believe you all got a Blue Copper Maran rooster. If I'm not mistaken Dolly is the mostly white Americana. If she lays blue or green eggs like she is supposed to, you can hatch her eggs that are fertilized by the new guy. The resulting pullets should be Olive Eggers.

You could turn that warm sun room with fruit trees and raised planters to grow vegetables and flowers! Those sunrooms especially yours make fabulous green houses.
FYI, the rooster will take the feathers off the back of the hens as he mates. They sell coats for hens backs to protect their feathers. They do work to protect the feathers between the wings/back. Good luck, John
Is your rooster a Rhode Island Red? If so be aware they can be aggressive. Also with a rooster, some of your eggs may be fertilized. Still okay to eat, just use or refrigerate as soon as possible.

Matt and blue find some pine cones put them in the heat so they open up so all the seeds will pop out put them in some dirt from outside mixing it with some potting soil and some sand, I grew two of them and it doesn't take long for them to get big it's really easy to do I wish I could show you, for their first winterI kept them inside close to a window so they would be cold spray them with water every other day with the water sprayer then I planted them outside the next year and I'm telling you they will grow so fast, I'm growing some Japanese Black pine trees they are amazing I'm not so sure how Japanese these ones are but nonetheless I had great luck in growing these I gave some out to some friendsand last year we had lots of rain and these trees grew like crazy,I could always help you out I could even send you some seeds if you'd want. 😊

I like the woodchips ! I am using woodchips in my garden to feed me and my family with fruitplants and herbs :D soo good ! Creates a great soil over time as you add it. I like the food, I am planning currently doing italian homemade pizza and pasta. Using my own organic planted ingredients. Except for the flour

So, I provided animals for a Nature Museum at a Boys Camp. I thought it would be cool for the city boys to see Chickens and get to know them. I brought them a trio from my herd. Rooster and 2 hens. The kids loved them, but after a week, I got a call that said they wanted to get another hen, and give back the rooster, as it crowed so early in the morning, it was waking up the staff! I swapped him out and all was quiet again. No fertile eggs to hatch, which had been part of the plan.

I think the wall is that thermal mass, and they just need to open all teh windows and doors into the house from that room to distribute the heat.

Have you guys heard of the 70s UK show called The Good Life? it’s all about a couple who quit the rat race to live a life of self sufficiency in suburban London and their Rooster is called Lenin! 🤣🤣 you could use that name. If you find the time I think you’d really enjoy the show.
So, I provided animals for a Nature Museum at a Boys Camp. I thought it would be cool for the city boys to see Chickens and get to know them. I brought them a trio from my herd. Rooster and 2 hens. The kids loved them, but after a week, I got a call that said they wanted to get another hen, and give back the rooster, as it crowed so early in the morning, it was waking up the staff! I swapped him out and all was quiet again. No fertile eggs to hatch, which had been part of the plan.
