    There's also videos where he asks the employees if he can see something from the glass counter, so how is he going to plant those ? 🙄🤦🏽‍♂️
    To some it might seem hard to believe he finds what he does because not all thrift stores are the same. Especially if you live out in the middle of no where. California is big, specially the Bay Area.

    Nice score! 6x6 medium format folders are a lot of fun to shoot. A common issue with these used folders is that they can have small pin holes or cracks in the bellows which will invariably lead to light leaks.

    • @legionchef
      @legionchef Год назад +1

      You can easily repair those pinholes by using black rubber paint or whatever it’s called, its cheap and a good way of getting a camera back in service.

      @@legionchef Oh, would Plasti Dip work for this?

    • @legionchef
      @legionchef Год назад

      @@mr89firebird It depends on how bad the tear/rip is. If there is loads of rips/pin holes, it may be best to get the bellows re-made. However, if we are talking about one or two small rips, then yes it would work.
      If I were fix another set of bellows, I would either use book binding tape or plasti dip electrical tape. I used both the binding tape and plasti dip to form two layers over the rip in the bellows, which worked and fixed the light leak.
      I would do your research first on how to do it, and take your time and write out the steps, and follow them in a methodical manner. I would also use tissue paper to clear up any excess fluid/cover up other parts of the camera (lens, metal parts of the camera etc).
      Good luck.

    Yeah, we don't really get that here (netherlands) much anymore. Most thrift stores get a camera enthusiast to volunteer for free and google the stuff on Ebay or local marketplaces these days and it's ruined thrift stores for me most of the time. Or, worse: They get someone who doesn't know shit about photography and they type "eos" and think an analog EOS1000 is the equivalent of a 1000D and smack 50 to 100 buck prices on them, without guaranteeing they even work. I've seen Prakticas in good working condition go from 15 bucks to a 100 bucks for one that is barely working and prices non-negotiable.

    Your camera thrifting videos are so much fun..you absolutely got a steal on that Nikomat FT with the Nippon Kogaku 50mm f/1.4 lens and the original everready case. I found a Nikkormat (that's what the labeled the U.S. market versions) FT2 a couple of years ago for $42.00 without a lens and thought I found a good deal then. I subsequently bought a Nippon Kogaku 50mm f/1.4 'S' lens exactly like the one mounted on that Nikomat you bought so all in I spent considerably more than you did. That camera originally used mercury batteries (used to power the light meter only) which are no longer available but you can get voltage-correcting battery inserts to allow use of modern equivalent silver oxide batteries. That Voightlander is an interesting piece too. Nice haul.

    The Nikormat was Nikon’s prosumer body in the late 60s - early 70s. They were sold with the “normal” 50mm lens. I owned two of the pro-level Nikon F bodies, one of them with the Ftn metering pentaprism I used for photojournalism at college. The silver colored thing with the notch sticking up on the lens engaged and moved a lever for the metering so it would know the f/stop the lens was set at.

    Sweet finds!. The largest thrift stores just over the border in Southern Oregon are the Goodwill stores and they put all cameras being donated on eBay. A lot of the mom and pop thrift stores closed up after the pandemic. At least the Film cameras are easier to find than used polaroid's. I was recently getting back into instant film cameras. I use to take pictures using an Ansco 616 Camera back in the early 1970's. The negatives were the size of a Post Card. I had no idea then that my Camera was from the 1940's . I took a photography class in high School where I learned 35mm Photography. I was in Europe in the late 70's and using a friends Minolta, I got some great photos of Statues. They were everywhere. It's impossible to run out of great things to Photograph there. Keep up the good work. I have subscribed.

I used to find and use expired 35mm film for cheap. Now that ppl watch these video's, the thrift stores are "ALWAYS" picked out now, or thrift stores charges some crazy price now... Or ppl posted them on FB market place or CL for like $10.00 bucks a roll! It's almost impossible to find any good deals... Those pont-n-shoot camera's aren't special. I do see those for cheap. Film cameras from known name brands are being sold for overly inflated prices in 2022 / 2023.
    By the end of 2023 I expect the bubble to burst and many people to stop shooting film as the price of film has increased to what is now unaffordable for most people.
    No film camera is worth top dollar unless it has been at the very least tested and in reality has been cla'd. The price to service an old Nikomat film camera will be more than the purchase price.
    Lastly, a lot of vendors on Ebay are listing film cameras at higher than market value rates that don't reflect what cameras are worth.
    If you have made it this far here is your bonus. Want to get a Hasselblad 500 series but don't have the money. Instead do the research and get a Rolleiflex 6000 series camera. Cheaper, more advanced, with better features and better accessories. You can get a Rolleiflex 6001 or 6003 kit for half the price of the equivalent hasselblad kit. Forget about the naysayers and batteries; everything you need for the system can be found albeit given time since most of it is extremely rare.

    Dude, a few years ago I found a Canon ftb with a 58mm f1. 2 lens for $30... Cherry, no dents, looks like it was never used...

    Oh, crap! I just got that same exact Nikormat camera for free from a friend. Didn't come with the 50mm f/1.4 though. Jealous on the lens find.

    What thrift stores do you recommend in the Bay area? I think I've only hit up the Goodwill's and a couple other staple spots.

    That folding camera is a piece of junk no parts available for repairs and bellows get pin holes causing light leaks if it’s not in working condition it’s a waste… that canon power shot is also kinda a crappy and the ccd is shit… but hey you got them all for a steal at least the folding cam would look cool on your desk

    The Nikomat FTN and the Nikkormat version I have are the same. I read that Nikomat cameras were sold in Japan and Nikkormat in the rest of the world. I have seen and owned several Nikkormats but have never seen a Nikomat.

    The nikkor lens needs to be de-yellowed or bleached. It’s not supposed to be yellow like that.
