Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper still doesn't understand that he's problem

- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper addressed the Frank Reich firing on Tuesday morning by not providing specific details on why he concluded that Reich wasn't the right man to lead the organization moving forward. Instead, Tepper defended why the Panthers job is attractive and how his being labeled impatient shouldn't be the case. Julian Council explains why Tuesday's press conference shows how Tepper still can't see that he's the one holding the organization back.
Panthers interim head coach Chris Tabor also met with the media on Tuesday morning where he detailed the decision to move on from running back coach Duce Staley and quarterback coach Josh McCown. Tabor is serving as an interim for the second time in his career, having held the role previously in Chicago. Can Tabor earn the job full-time?
Panthers coordinators Ejiro Evero and Thomas Brown are likely to be future head coaching candidates. Why weren't they named as the interim? Julian explains.

“the point of having a press conference is so we don’t speculate” 😂😂😂😂 that took me out
It was the LinkedIn ad for me 🤣
Then proceeded to tell us nothing 😂
🤦🏻♂️
The Panthers’s head coach job is very desirable because you can coach less than a season and retire on being paid not to coach the remainder of your 4-year contract.
I was thinking the same thing. LMAO!
Where do I sign up? I can lie I'm a awesome head coach on my resume
HE HAD HIS GUY. He could have kept Steve Wilks, Sam Darnold, and DJ Moore, and either traded up for Stroud OR trundled along and been in position for a QB in this upcoming draft. Either scenario is better than where they are now.
Well stated.I agree with this comment.
ANY scenario is better than where we are. Including Jerry Richardson still owning the team (I know he has passed)
@@GM-ie2zl A scumbag, yes, but somehow did enough for the team to go to the Super Bowl. TWICE.
@@GM-ie2zldead Jerry would do a way better job than living tepper.
Panthers were always a respectable organization while Jerry Richardson was the owner.
Steve Smith Sr had the best coverage of this on his podcast and he and his guest rightfully pointed out that it's pointless complaining about the owner because he's not going to sell the team and you can't fire the owner. They also pointed out how the 49ers owner fired three coaches in a span of 24 months yet people forget that because of the success of Shannahan.
I just watched that and you're right. But Carolina has one of the worst owners. 😂🤣😂
Let's Go Steelers ✊🏾
@@armanitransport2604actually the Steelers have fallen off tremendously since Tepper sold his minority stake in order to buy the Panthers.
@@jaydav6521really cuz they Aleast a playoff team
Even the Texans fired 3 head coaches 2 after one year till Demeco
When he said he was patient, I nearly pissed in my pants from laughing so hard. Tepper is now the owner that the other 31 owners make fun of. I feel for you, Panthers fans. We had that situation with the Lions for DECADES with William Clay Ford and then Martha Ford running things.
Seeing that press conference was emotionally devastating as a fan who loves this team. I made it very clear that we will never win with this guy as the owner.
I am not a Panthers fan, but I live in Central NC, so I do follow the news and scores. But I really enjoy your podcasts. You're articulate, intelligent, have a good 'radio' voice that's easy to listen to. Keep up the good work.
ETA: go Browns & Texans!
The beginning of the end was when he let Steve Wilks go.That was devastating. The players on the team played hard for this guy.Tepper is nothing but a rich melonhead.
Tepper’s rationale of hiring a former QB Frank Reich was because Reich could tutor Bryce Young better than defensive genius Steve Wilks.
@@Landis_Grant Tepper seems to know as much about football as I know about being an astronaut.
The Panthers organization is the laughingstock of the NFL. You CANNOT fire a coach mid-season two years in a row.
@WorldwideWyatt, Matt Rhule was in his 3rd season and wasn’t showing progress so he was fired by most standards.
what the hell have you’ve been watching?
@@whiskeredtuna oh for sure Matt Rhule had run his course, but he should have been fired in the offseason before. Firing your coach mid season two seasons in a row is bush league.
Reich was done the week he took back play calling, and the results were worse. Firing him midseason might actually be respect to the fanbase.
GM is next, but with that move, I don't know how much of the scouting department chnages. I will bet dollars to donuts Dan Morgan gets the nod this off-season, so there is really no rush to make the move in season.
To be fair to Reich, the 3 games TB had were 3 of our easier matchups on the schedule, Reich came back and faced the Cowboys D. Ten points against the Titans was about on par with what TB was doing. I don't think much changed at all between swapping playcallers, the offense was anemic in both cases
I don't want to accuse him of anything like this yet but I think it's curious that he keeps passing up qualified candidates that have locker room support... Eric Washington, Steve Wilks, Ejiro, TB so far. Unqualified people selected instead - Rhule, Reich, Tabor... Again I'm not accusing anyone, but there is certainly a behavioral pattern at the moment from Tepper selecting his HC
It doesn't make much sense to me
I’m not a Bryce Young hater. 2023 just wasn’t the draft to trade up and reach for a QB. Should’ve just been a stopgap QB and go up and get someone in 2024. Could’ve kept draft capital, DJ Moore, not overpay for Miles Sanders etc.
Could’ve traded Burns and scooped up a receiver as well.
Another big issue is how many misses we’ve had in later rounds.
I agree with you 100%
After today's meeting before the press conference begin he knows he's the problemm
I actually want David Tepper to coach the team. It would make the Panthers must see t.v.
Damn! That would be funny as shit - and then have his wife call the plays for the QB - since she's the one who wanted to draft him based on a g-damned dinner they had. SMDH
@@HoneysuckleRoseSmelledGreat It brings even more publicity to the franchise and makes the whole NFL interesting. Even if they do bad (of course they are going to do bad) it would be something entertaining.
@@ShadowMoses_ I would love to see it happen. Plus, I'd love to see the cokehead owner of the Colts, Jim Irsay, coach his team as well. Then, throw in Jerry Jones next year after he fires McCarthy after this season. It would be non-stop comedy!
People act like Tepper is the only owner in the league that has fired this many coaches in back to back years. Look at the 49ers before shannahan and the Texans before Demeco .
When the Texans owner Cal McNair promoted the team chaplain so he could start making football decisions, that was some of the all-time funniest shit done by an NFL owner in recent memory. If the NFL gave out annual awards for "Doubling Down on Dumbfuckery", Cal McNair would have received that trophy. Now? That honor belongs to Tepper.
To paraphrase an old saying:'You can always tell a hedge fund manager, but you can not tell him much."
It is nice that the Panthers has replaced Houston as the NFL joke franchise.
You have to admit when Cal McNair promoted the preacher to start making football decisions was pretty damned funny!
DAVID TEPPER IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST OWNER IN THE NFL ! Keep him forever ! Says the fans of every other football team in the country ! LMMAO !
He's taken this franchise on a "snipe hunt". Quite a few folks left "holding the bag".
As a Bears fan, I’m super surprised that the Bears have given Matt Eberflus more respect than Tepper gave Reich smh.
I 100% AGREE WITH YOU JULIAN
The panthers go win 6 in a row and win the division
Would u shut up! Same roster and you expect to win games
Even if Ejiro Evero was offered the interim position, he could have turned it down and smartly so. Why stake your chances of becoming a Head Coach in the future on a six-game audition on a team that you know is bad when you can interview again elsewhere (with your defense as your resumé) and start with a clean slate?
The owner really don't need to be the face of the franchise the owner needs to be in the background that's one thing
Conspiracy theory. Tepper has a personal vendetta against the Steelers owners because they were too hands off with the team and they didn’t want to do things Tepper’s way. So now he has his chance to show the Steelers organization that he knows what he’s doing. His plan is to replicate the Steelers success in half the time.
You might be right about your conspiracy theory. But losing all those draft picks, D.J. Moore, and whiffing on Bryce Young will set the Panthers back 5-6 years before they're close to being a .500 team.
@@HoneysuckleRoseSmelledGreat yes but it wasn’t his team. It was the big cats team
He traded all our best players and he wonders why we suck. There will never be another Cmac, and we traded him for nothing.
You got a bag of tortilla chips and some salsa LOL!
David Tepper is giving me James Dolan vibes 🤦🏾♂️
He’s giving me serious Snyder vibes.
@@baxatakbaxatak2014 he makes Snyder look like Albert Einstein LMAO!
Reich had to go. He’s a bad coach. Predictable vanilla plays that defense can easily predict.
You have to wonder how much of that is decided by the formations Bryce can comfortably throw out of. We essentially only ran pistol, gun, and occasionally lined up under center. When we lineup under center its 90% a run play because Bryce has struggled with vision and protection dropping back out of it. In an ideal world you'd be able to have the threat of passing out of it so that we aren't predicatable
@@DCIphanaticso that’s by9 fault?
@@dbutta2496 It's really not about it being someone's fault... Bryce can't control the extent of his abilities. I'm just pointing out that he is limited by his vision and the formations he can play out of comfortably. Bryce can simultaneously be the problem in Carolina without being culpable for the extent of his skillset. Can't you see how both can be true?
Stop saying it was a consensus that Bryce was number #1 quarterback that's cap. Plenty of people had CJ, including Houston. You can't speak for the Texans. I live in Houston, and they had CJ #1. After they made the pick, Texans tweeted out this statement: "It was always him." Also, Gm and coach didn't want leaks, so they kept what decision in the draft were kept between them. So don't speak for the Texans. You guys had Bryce #1
Not only that. Tepper undercuts Bryce by outright saying they wanted CJ (even at #2). The poor guy is under enough pressure & upheaval.
Lies
@@dbutta2496 what are you referring to?
Any chance the owner has quietly figured this out and will bring on a Top Tier coach with the agreement that he (the owner) stays out of it? Maybe the New England Way?
Nope
Frank was so bad and adamant about forcing this team to run his system without any adjustments for the players to be successful. That being said, Frank DIDNT DESERVE TO COACH THIS TEAM THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON. I'm happy Tepper hit his ass outta here!
This is the classic fable " The Emperor's new clothes". Tepper walks around naked believing he looks like a porn star. The reality is its a small world in Tepper land. He cant be wrong ever, according to him.
This is the reason why I've backed off from having any real allegiances as far as sports goes. Your favorite team's success is either made or broken by what some idiot billionaire wants to do. It's unfair to us the fans and I'm not putting up with the BS anymore.
B a free agent fan , grab a winning team every year , f em😊
So we're speculating that Tepper is the problem, and blaming him for not giving reasons for his decision, but have we answered WHY he's the problem?
Or are we falling into a pot calling the kettle black scenario?
Julian you think Chicago or trade back number one for Bryce Young
Let's Go Steelers ✊🏾
Wondering if the football people are picking who they think tepper wants
Rumor has it that Tepper's wife wanted Bryce Young to be their #1 pick.

Sorry Tepper, but an NFL championship is on the list of things money can’t buy.
This is going to be rough boyzzz…
Wait till we get our dome stadium
Yes he made the wrong decision (shoulda kept Wilks) but damn! wrong decision or not…there was Zeeeeroooo progress, Frank had to go
And who hired frank? Goofy
Business men are usually efficient.
The efficient choice would be to evaluate what kind of job Evero can do and see if he’s as good as everyone thought he was as a head coach candidate. If so, you roll with him. Give him another year. Nobody says you have to automatically give a guy 3-4 years for $60 mil.
He’s not efficient. He’d rather rebuild and recycle the same process over and over.
Panthers aren't looking for a defensive coordinator to have a head coach position especially one who's doesn't have head coaching experience .
David Tepper is the same as any megalomaniac I have ever encountered. "you're rich girl, you're a bitch girl"....
Why is the owner up there should GM This like the Cowboys
Nobody asks the questions why didnt he give? Steve wilkes opportunity to coax for at least two years
Thank you…Tep is clueless.
Reich had to go, bad take.
Literally zero progress since the first snap of the season and actively harming the development of our rookie QB. Tepper made the right call.
Should of never hired him

The offensive scheme is the result of the capabilities of the available players.OC Thomas prepares the scheme reviewed by Frank and approved. If you look at Franks presser after Titans he was down and beaten. Folks are making mistakes. It was “Frank thanks we will take it from here”. People get QB picks wrong all the time. Young was not clear number one pick if you ask me. Panthers were dog who caught the car.

Another Tepper Tantrum.
I would think him being a former hedge manager would make him a little more thick skinned.
He fired Reich because the results were terrible and the play awful too. It took 11 games for Tepper to be convinced that nothing would improve in the last 6 games with Reich in charge. That should be obvious to you and not require Tepper to say it. This isn't kindergarten. They're things that you should deduce yourself.......errrrrr....can you help me!!!!
False narrative. Tepper isn't stupid. He knows he's made huge mistakes and he's far too proud to say it out loud.
