I like my first cost to be a clear coat. This helps "seal" the template to the plane and reduces any bleeding that causes the soft edges in your paint.
I spent about 60 bucks on paint on an EFX racer just recently to join with about 5 others at the slope. Spent a few hours making it look really different to everyone elses, I flew it for about 10 mins and then had a middair with a friend and it found the cliff face. Broke the nose off and that was the end of it... oh did I mention I had to drive 3 hours away and stay overnight just to find a slope! Glad I took backups haha, this paint idea is waaaaay better! :)
I feel like there hasn't been enough general aircraft reviews lately. I love the new builds you guys have come up with though and the tips with fpv and multi rotor related things though.
The M77 stuff is also available in Art shops, the generic name is, "spray mount".. it is used for putting photos into albums, masking etc, it is sticky but can be easily unstuck and rubbed off if necessary.
hey guys just wanted to say love the vids keep them coming. Found a spray brand called "Montana cans" works really well drys really quickly as well. thanks again guys
There are a number of plastic scale model detailing books that have great painting sections. These include hand painting air brushing and stenciling that give realistic results. As an old modeler I have 3 different types air brushes each one is designed for a different type of paint work. One is an old photo touch up brush that is designed to use black, gray tones and white inks not paint it works well for adding a rust wash to a ship model.
Cop out repeated topic for a video. I'm sorry to be one of the party poopers. But I really look forward to your shows each week. Now we gotta wait till Monday :-( hopefully there are more scratch builds on the way. That's my favorite type of FT content. Scratch Builds all the way. :-)
Josh Bixler Thanks for the reply and most of all thanks for getting me into the hobby. It was your show that did it for me and for that I truly thank all of the flitetest crew. Sorry to complain. Just anxious for the next one's i guess. I'm really excited to see those two. I've been wanting a Corsair since I started watching. Keep up the inspiration!
+Christopher Barron I think it's a good thing to cover this again, this was from a different angle. Before they covered airbrushing, this shows proper coating and breaks between. Remember, there might be someone new to FT that hasnt seen their painting vid yet. FT is also the reason I entered the hobby and I appreciate the work they put into each episode.
The uses for 3M77 really are endless. My latest use for it is in assembling wing cores for vacuum bagging (not an idea original to me). You can also spray it on glass cloth, let it dry, and then the glass cloth won't deform or snag as easily, making it easier to apply.
Three words: Zinsser Cover Stain! Oil base primer in a spray can, and you can find it everywhere. Seals out moisture, covers stains, and makes paint stick like glue to any surface...even shiny packing tape. Use a thin coat so paper doesn't bubble, and a second thin coat a few minutes later when first coat is dry to the touch. Five bucks a can, minutes to waterproof and prime your model, you can even sand it for a smooth finish. You can't beat it!
to help prevent the bleeding on edges paint your base color first with template then the color you want. like the star on corsair. paint white over template of star. any bleed will be white and then white will dry and seal from blue paint bleeding through. the star will come out with better edges.
You guys may have done this before but I was thinking I seen your video of you guys crashing a plane into the tower but if you guys made an fav quad tri copter thing that had a maybe servo claw that could grab onto the plane and take it out of the tower it's something I think David would do and it seems something that would be a fun challenge
Hey Josh IF YOU want to paint COROPLAST we own a autobody shop an use ALOT of (Bull Dog ) it lets paint stick to ANYTHING Glass Chrome plastics... it comes in a Can an had a Bull Dog on the front of it lol
great job, I have built one of your models, and it is brutal ... do you come to Spain with your products? I would like to buy a kit that you prefabricate, but I do not know in what state it will arrive in my country. Thank you for your work.
Big fan, you guys got me into the hobby. Can you review the F4U Corsair S RTF with SAFE® Technology from Horizon Hobby, I want to get into a war bird but with so many of them out there I do not know what to get.
I'd love it if u guys did a video all around the mz-12 like how to to do a first time set up and how to do elevator and aileron mixing like for the delta I would really appreciate it, thanks!
Will you share templates for your other designs? It would be cool if you made one for the FT explorer to make it look like a bixler as you have done on the review episode.
Have you guys tried plasti dip? I think it would add a extra layer of protection to the plane since it dries like a sheet of rubber.. I guess like a rubber spray able version of monokote.
Is there are place where I can download some different templates for different planes, and if not, I think that would be really cool for you guys to do!
which racing quad do you recommend? I'm trying to get into the hobby and I really like them. I don't know anything about building one but any advice would help. thanks.
+----lines---- Have you tried sealing the paper with Minwax polyurethane (solvent based, not water based) before painting? Also, using paper medical tape to seal the raw foam edges before applying anything would help to protect it from damaging solvents. If you have removed the paper from the foam, or are working with raw foam, I understand that a mixture of water based polyurethane and talkum powder can be used to seal the foam as well. Dwight
There is a Flite Test video of this technique out there that you should have a look at. Basically, you apply the finish with a brush or rag, and then wipe off ALL excess after about 30 seconds or so. You want it to soak into the paper, but not so much so that it makes the paper de-laminate from the foam.
Thanks for recommending the turnegy park 300 motor for my power pod. Doesn't fit. Thanks for recommending the linkage stoppers from hobby King. Doesn't fit. I can tell Flitetest Is the type of company and channel that doesn't care about experience, just money
Do you want to die free or young....ugh, you wont really have a career nor quality of life....so all that must be done in a different medium so you don't breath it in...
That Corsair looks AWESOME!
Wow that FT Corsair looks sick!
+Shwepnick It's on the store now :)

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE FT CORSAIR
Great video FT :) Quite inspirational actually.. I usually use a magic marker, but your technique looks to yield better looking results :)
Cheers!

Use liquitex spraypaint it does not destroy the foam

good job from argentina !!!

I have read in a few forums that you need to prime the redi board first with Polyurethane. Is that true? Do you guys recommend that as a precaution?
I would like to see a video about printing on tissue paper. good paint tips, thanks
I like the corsair.
What is the "best" way, less weight and type of glue to put large bits of foam together?
Is there are place where I can download some different templates for different planes, and if not, I think that would be really cool for you guys to do!
is the min wax still necessary before spraying the foam board?
How could I use a layer of paint to use foam board as a boat hull, or should I cover it with duck tape?
which racing quad do you recommend? I'm trying to get into the hobby and I really like them. I don't know anything about building one but any advice would help. thanks.
+ElmerFuddGun did you get the power pack with it? what does it include? I was actually looking at it today. thanks man.
Thanks for sharing.
I have a question. how would one paint on tissue paper for balsa models?do i need a certain kind of paint or can i use anything? thanks.

Is there any particular spray paint that is not safe for application to foam?
Can you paint over servos and linkages and things like that?
If you're spraying foam" Montana water-based" does not melt styrofoam
How to make it look symmetrically on both sides of the plane?
Hello!
Did you want to know the basis of the paint used?
is it ok to use a hydrophobic paint on a plane?
I see a ft corsair in the near future!
i want the plans for the corsair!!
Flight test can you do a review of the hobby king super kinetic it's the newest of the kinetic planes if you could that would be great!!! :)
Will spray paint adhere to packing tape???
No, not by itself, you have to either sand then prime or use an adhesion promoter
Hey! I design my own rc planes, and have recently entuontered the problem of the paint destroying my goam in a couple months. what should I do?

+Dwight Rahl thank you for the tip, I'll try it for the next plane I build!!

Anyone ever use a brush? So you can paint inside without making a mess. What cons are there to a brush other then cleaning it?
These episodes are getting shorter and shorter.
