even 11 years ago they still made super high quality videos.
So true
I didn’t know they even had this good quality camera’s this good back them, not to mention mics
We need this intro back for the newer videos!!!
so there are cw props and you say the ccw props are made for pusher planes, why cant you just reverse your motor and use a normal cw prop on a pusher type plane?
Can you please give me a tip on what propeller should I use as a rotor of my rc AVENGERS helicarrier project
It wasn't long ago that newbies or youngsters believed a bigger prop was better. I lost count of guys asking what was the longest prop a quadcopter could handle. It seemed a quad with small props wasn't "cool". No amount of advice regarding efficiency etc. could shake them. Such talk was old people's talk, in the end I gave up trying and told them to use 11 inch props as long as they were OK with them hitting the prop on the next motor. They were actually buying quadcopters according to the size of the props. I'm no longer in the business so I have to wonder if it's still uncool to have small props. Or have I got it wrong by buying my props according to motor specs?
can u please suggest me propeller suits for 2200 kv motor
hi I am making a 700 gram plane. I don't know which motor and prop to can u please help. I already have a 5x5 prop.
can that work and if so then with which motor
saif rehman use a 250 quad motor with a minimum of a 5x3 (5030) and go from there and see what more or less you want from the craft
So this is what happens when you have a guy in speed and the other one high in the same video.
@tjtg Pusher props are good for screw collets. Otherwise you chance them loosening when you reverse your motor.
would you guys pls do a video about prop adapters, almost nobody includes an adapter when you buy a motor so it is a headache to look for the proper shaft and prop for the motor. Thank you
Indeed. Makes me sick! SIck! truely hate that.
look on ebay!!!
the adapters come with the prop (or should, always look for the adapter when buying prop...they are just little plastic parts) i know you know this already, but for those who don't.
tell that guy to stop eating paint chips and smoking buds before the shoot lmfao!
With all these new quadcopter props I think it would be a great idea to revisit this for a video.
One thing I'm doing is learning to 3d print a propeller for my ww2 plane. It's a great small flier but it can't land or take off cause the factory prop is a huge 2 bladder prop. It does great but I want to play around with different propellers and see if it will work will a 4 bladder propeller.
2 years later.....did you have any success making props? I thought about making a silicone mold of a few props and then just pouring my own from epoxy, but probably too heavy.
@fulg Actually Ben, using a pusher on a rear mount will keep the collet from loosening.
Love the early days of flitetest. Josh Scott and Josh Bixler was a good mix. Should get some of the past crew back on the channel every now and then.
Everyone's beginning to get sick of HobbyKing and their outrageous shipping costs. Seems like no matter where in the world you're located, HobbyKing will find a way to do you in, essentially forcing us to purchase larger quantities in the hopes that costs subside. They are also very sneaky, not revealing estimated shipping charges, then expect us to register, then enter banking details only to eventually find that the shipping costs are generally far to high. HobbyKing, it's time you get your ducks in a row... and your props balanced! =P
Your Comment Caught my eye. I am an ""Old Goat"" Still Love the Gas engines, and what come with it, the cleanup.
Anyhow, I am in total Agreement with you on the ""Sneaky"" HobbyKing, """Gouges"" you to the last dime. I am still in the process of waiting from parts from China, to set up my balance charger to be able to charge more than one at a time, and the mateing cord is another cost. In the process of finding a CNC Hobby Router for up to light steel and aluminum, Best deal for what I can afford needs to be built by myself or come out of China, I Hope To God There is a G-Code For Dummies
Respectfully, Jim P.
At least now they let you do a estimate on order including shipping costs unlike they used toI got stung by the when I bought a bix 2 from them so avoided them but they have improved even got free parts with free shipping for some stuff but that's because I had store credit after being refunded for something I ordered that wasn't in stock
The best thing I ever did for the sustained enjoyment of this hobby was to ditch all connections to Hobbyking. Unsubscribe... close account... detatch from email lists. So now shopping elsewhere, the options have all improved, the prices are cheaper, the shipping is no longer sneakily increased with grossly over estimated weights, There is no more angst and pain when it comes to warranty claims with a stupid ticket system, the quality has improved enormously, and I can now buy more stuff.. Really Hobbyking are a textbook case in how to ruin a business through bad ethics. They will always have their place with an endless drizzle of temporary customers, but the counterpoint is what they could have been.. they literally hurl their customers at their opposition rather than being the biggest most successful business in the world.. Treating your customers with a broad stroke of contempt and treating them like idiots will always have the same outcome in the long run..
I informed them yesterday that product was faulty with in 2 hours i got a email saying they were going to ship me a replacement with no questions asked.
It was a back light for my dx6i which told them i had installed one before and had no problems.
Got email this morning saying its been packed and awaiting to be shipped
I must admit they have improved alot
I only buy from them because they have warehouse in my country (UK) so they shipping don't take as long.
HK sell a lipo balance voltage alarm for £3 (gbp) + shipping
Ebay same thing for 99 pence + free shipping
Told HK to beat that for price lol
I have been using Banggood for my R/C stuff. Only thing is, it takes them 2 to 3 weeks to get it to me! But, it's FREE Shipping, and NO TAX! They beat everybody in Drone costs and parts, too!
Love rewatching flite tips!😜
Ohhh Yahhh
Just the tips?
Oh... now I get it. CW spinning propeller pulls the airplane and CCW spinning propeller pushes it. LOL
I put 18 inch propeller on box fan motor
Whenever it comes to aerodynamics, I'm clueless where to begin. It's way more complex than my financial problem....
@lpbug Use blue loctite
so is it like that more the kv in the moters more faster
Yep
I'm building a foam mig 29 jet
The wingspan is 81 mm and the weight is 31.1 oz
The battery is a lipo 2200 mah 11.1 v 3s
The motor I'm using is a A2212/6t 2200 kv and the propeller is 6x4
My question is do you think this setup will work or do I need to change something. Any help would be much appreciated
PLEASE ANYONE HELP!!!
Ok so the second number means how far the propeller will move through the air after each rotation......... However, when I look up propellers I see one of them has the second number 24... so it should make that prop move 2.4 inches through the with each rotation..... Then I look at another prop where the second number is 52, which should make the prop move 5.2 inches through the air with each rotation.
The thing that MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL is the that prop with the second number being 24 has FAR FAR FAR more pitch on each blade than the one with 52 being the second number. How does this make any sense at all!?
This is SO frustrating I cannot reconcile this AT ALL.... I feel like there is some information that I'm using that is wrong. What do I have wrong!?
i need help..i have a Turnigy DST-1200 Brushless Outrunner 1200kv which max ovr at 16amp , i bought a 10x5 prop for it but im afraid its gonna over load the 20amp esc that i have..will me system work good enough for a couple flights?
My motor is 2212 1400 kv none brand motor,,i can use 3 blade prop,,but i dont know 3 blade prop size,,,plase suggest a 3 blade prop for 1400 kv on 2s lipo
Hi I have a 50cc electric motor. I am running a 22+10 eflight prop. It is very quiet. I am looking for a loud prop sound? Any suggestions? Thanks
are 9*6E propellers the same as 9060 propeller.if not then pls tell me the difference
hi josh bixler. should i use prop-savers on my scratch foam trainer. it has a 35" wing-span, and a 1534 kV motor, and a 7x6 recommended prop. even thought we'll probably use a 8x6. What say u?
Looks like you guys are in a hurry with some bigger stuff since this clip was so short, cool clip full of good info. But where is the Chad Kapper usefull explanatory dravings? :-) No actually i think even Scott could understand this clip.
Now, how do you get your girlfriend to like this hobby, i heard there are some benefits if you get the woman of you heart to like this hobby :-) Whats the best girl plane? :-)
Thx..
what are the differences between props for forward flight/ fixed wing and props for quadcopters?
so they mean 2 prop clockwise and 2 counterclockwise, can we say in other word 2 pusher blades and 2 puller blades???? help ???
Thank you for that mind opening detail, now I may be able to calculate the best prop for the speed I know I'm going to be within :)

Hello, recently I broke a 2300 Kv edf ducted fan, and I am thinking of reusing the motor with a propeller for a plane. Is it possible or it will underperform severely? Thanks in advance.
Hey guys, I'm wondering what would be better to throw in my Carbon z cub ss (v2) eflight power 60 (400kv or 470kv) and which size prop?
i have Rc Helicopter Engine Firewolf F163 Side Motor what propeler should i use to make rc plane? i want to make rc plane with 2 motor..
Hi i just wanted to know what prop to choose I have a t28 Trojan by parkzone I'm making it 1000 watts now the motor is a 900 kv motor 950 watt with a 60 amp esc and the motor suggested prop is 13x8 batt is 3s should I go something a bit smaller prop wize to not push all setup to heat up ????
Do they define CW vs. CCW viewing from in front of the plane, or viewing from inside the cockpit of the plane?
My broken propeller just says 130x70 I need to replace it for my Volantex mini trainstar (broke beginner 😭😂) please help😂
Do you think spinners are necessary for electric rc planes? I have a Turbo Timber Evo. and it looks like the ESC would get better air flow if the spinner was not installed.
I am looking to buy a RVJet plane I just couldn't decide which propeller and motor I should use. Do you have any suggestions?
I have a question. I have a world models ultimate 10-300 with a 480 briskness at 1020kv. I want to set this up to hover. What would be the best prop to hover this set up???
Hi I am having a sbach 342 Balsa wood aircraft but I am confused in choosing propeller for that .. pls help me choose the wright propellee
Why revolution per volt? Why not revolution per Ampere ? How many revolutions per 5volt ?
Pls respond umm so when you said like 1047 prop is the 10 in inches? Or.......
1:40, pretty sure the prop needs to face forwards if its on a normal plane or a pusher plane, i use CW props on my pusher plane and it works fine and you can use CCW props on either type of plane, just reverse your motor to suit, you need to explain what your talking about, not just say it spins the other way cos it goes on the back because thats just flat out wrong
.... no no no. this is just wrong. propellers have a leading edge and a trailing edge. you CAN reverse your motor and make a standard prop(ccw) do what a pusher prop(cw) is designed for, but its not efficient because the standard prop is indeed running backwards with the trailing edge out front instead of the leading edge.
then entire point of there being two types of propellers is for you to use to proper one for the proper scenario. please do not go around encouraging people to use the wrong prop for the wrong job. running a prop trailing edge first is a good way to cause damage to your plane, propeller, or yourself
yes i know the leading edge always needs to spin the correct way that was my point, you always need to have the propeller facing forwards (the side you see the size and pitch written on most props) my point is you can use a ccw prop if you reverse your motor so the leading edge is spinning the correct way while the front of the prop is facing forwards weather its on the front or rear of the plane. the reason for my comment in the 1st place is why did flight test mention the ccw prop and not go into any detail?
Yeah no need for pusher props in electric planes really, just flip the prop and reverse the motor but in nitro applications you do as the engine cant run backwards
@@mark675 Brilliant comment!
I'm interested with the combat wing's motor mount. Please tell me where did you get that.
Can anyone plz tell me where I can buy a 10-4 7 prop cause i looked on there websight and couldn't find it
So im looking for a prop to use on my ft22 raptor i have 1000kv motor a 2s and a 30 amp esc and i cant find anything on amazon and in my local hobby shops anyone want to help me out?
@deeringdeluxe I know, that's what I'm trying to say ;) Props have a direction (CCW or CW), you have to mount them correctly (either forwards or backwards based on the motor location) to make sure the numbers on the prop are facing towards the direction of flight. Even if the motor is at the back of your plane, it doesn't mean you need a pusher prop, as long as the prop ends up turning the correct way. It will work fine with either prop type, you just pay more for pushers.
video summary: "basically you have to match the right prop for the right plane"
Josh what folding prop is good for my radian pro becauce i'm using it for fpv and i whant it to clime better
Whats the best prop for a slow flying radian sized glider with a 2200 kv motor. Im a nüb at this stuff
Oskar Lund 6×4.5
You would be better off with a folding prop if you are using a tractor style motor. By folding out of the way the drag is reduced and your plane will have a better glide ratio.
Want to make a EDGE...... suggest prop for a2212 2200 kv motor
DIRTY FINGERNAILS! I know it's a workshop, but before a footage shoot you should've cleaned them.
Hey Josh/Josh need a videos on how to choose a motor... How to match an ESC to a motor.........
What does the letter stand for ? I have a prop the is marked 6x4:5R what does the R mean?
Which motor and which propler is best for both plane and tri copter if I want have maximum thust
What prop do I need for a 960 kv motor for slow fly as I am a beginner.
What propeller i need for Turnigy D2830-11 on 4S? (Tricopter, 1000grams) cant find 8x4 that isnt slowfly. 10x5 is too "heavy" for 4S on those motors.
hi regarding a project i want your help can you help me??
1400 kv motor which propeller is best for rc plane?
Great video how do you know from a push prop pull prop and could you tell me what a good push prop for a 2400 kv/ and a 2200 kv motor pllleeeeeease want speed.
I also need the ans
Great informative video. I have a dji phantom version 1 I'm currently using the standard 8043 plastic props. I flying with dual 2800 mah 3s lipos and a gopro hero 3. I'm wondering if I should upgrade my propellers to the carbon fiber 8 inch props due they are more stiffer and I'm carrying a little more weight or continue to fly with the standard props. Let me know whar you think.
a mustache on its rear?????🙂waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa??!!!
hey guys, can u help me? So i'll do a cessna 182, about 800grams. so i choose for use the Emax XA2212 1400kv motor. i read that i have to use a 8x6 propeller. then i go to the hobbyking and find my propeller. So i don't know what direction (CW or CCW) i have to buy. can u guys help me? like as cessna, the motor will be in the front of the Airplane
+Guilherme Alves It makes no real difference except for multicopters, where some of the props turn backwards. That said, most tractor aircraft, where the prop is in front of the motor and the whole shebang pulls the aircraft, have props that spin clockwise when seen from behind.
If your airframe has thrust angle built in (some do some don't), then you should stick with the prop for that angle, which is usually (NOT ALWAYS) clockwise. If you have no thrust angle built in, then feel free to install a counterclockwise prop - if it spins backwards, flip any two motor-ESC leads.
the intro gives me...the thing when you get cold and your skin like does the thing...its good...
ikr the music is so cool too, and its just random shots mixed together :p
Pretty good overview for a short episode, nice work!
Y'all should do a video choosing the right props for quads
My 6yr old now names every prop he see,s as a moustache.
what would you recommend on a Sunnysky x2212 1400kv motors on a HJ-Y3 tricopter ?
Dylan0070 8x6 GWS/APC or Master Airscrew. Love these motors.
Well WeSmashRC you asked a question here and although it doesnt look like anyone tried to help you, maybe you can help others by telling us how you corrected your issue. I mean thats if ya did? I hope ya did. :)
You sure don’t want to stall at high speeds
josh scott #2 josh- its a booger bar b que squeer
Can you redo this video with multi-rotors in mind?
Make video to make a flying aeroplane plz plz plz...
Can I use a drone propeller in my rc plane
Is the wooden propeller faster or slower
Another great video guys! Keep up the fantastic work and continued success! Have a great day and happy flying friends.
One thing you did not say, what the three wires on the brushless motor are ? positive- negative and the third ? how to hook to ESC, if both motor/esc have no color match on the wires? I see many do "not" match color of wires.
Weight have anything to do with picking a motor? think that would be first step in picking a motor weight of the plane with everything.
HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN 950 KV MOTOR LIFT? can we see a video on this test maybe with a quad copter would be fun to see.
Do we need to take apart and clean motors inside if you fly at dirt flying parks? best way blow with air is only way?
how long will brushless motor last, what will go on it? with brushless the bearings wear out first?
Hobby store offer replacements which companies do have bearings for the motors? do they make you buy new motor. Found best to have spare parts on hand. I learned make sure you can get them before you buy any rc craft even replacement screws hard to get most do not offer them, just try finding screws for v262 quad copter... Best build your self that way you know where you got the parts, and screws if need same parts again.
tell us how to make a multi motor plane
how would i attach a prop to a traxxas rustler rc brushless electric motor, that was never meant to have a plane prop attached to it? i am trying to make a airboat that will have lots of torque and high end speed. i am gonna be using a 5000 mah venom battery
As the guy on the flight line that got elected to straddle the new 1200 horsepower turbine to adjust the variable pitch prop governor, I can tell you that all fixed pitch propellers have a narrow efficiency window to operate with. Airspeed and pitch is everything. If you change the pitch and/or diameter, yes, it's possible to go faster - within limits. Balance the tradeoffs in your choice. A high pitch propeller gives you a long roll on takeoff. A low airspeed, heavy biting high pitch prop will likely never exceed 60MPH. Propeller formulas always include airspeed because of it. For any given propeller, engine and airframe combination, there is a speed at which the propeller noise is at a minimum. A noisy prop (too fast, too slow, bad wind angle, turbulence, etc.) is eating your power wholesale with a reduced return in thrust by comparison. A propeller blade operating in the wake turbulence of another propeller blade is definitely at the wrong airspeed. Drone props are designed for 0 airspeed. Insufficient airflow across jet engine blades and the compressor will stall sometimes violently and wreck the engine. The length of the prop blade is directly proportional to the work required to keep it balanced and the amount of grass your cutting on taxi. In any case, vibration from any source is bad and noisy. There is no such thing as no damage from any prop strike at max rpm.
Based on what's usually available to most people, it's very likely that you have a choice of three props for your given combination that will change performance; and three more if the blade count changes. Choose carefully and you maximize flight time. A goal nobody argues with ;)
i am looking for a pusher propeller for my delta wing.i have a 1300kv racerstar br2830 motor
I've a 1000KV brushless motor
so what should be the propeller size, which will give the most speed and how much it will effect my F117 RC plane??
...so much talk, so little content! You should be forced to watch your own videos!
Obviously this is directed to beginners, so discuss what it is they need to know before you make the video, and stick to that, rather than nearly useless discussion.
Having watched several of your videos, I am disappointed.
so something I don't understand. if you have a 8x6 prop and a 10x6 prop I guess why would you go with the bigger prop? if your going to get the same travel out of both the 10x6 prop will draw more power plus more likely to break. which I guess leads to the next question why not go with a fast kv motor smaller prop. so if you have a 1000kv motor with a 8x6 prop and a 2000kv motor with a 4x3 your getting the same travel per min. the only reason I can see with going with a bigger motor is for weight balance right now. I suppose I might not understand yeah probably lol
I REALLY LOVE WATCHING YOUR "FACE" ITS SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THEN WHAT WERE TALKING ABOUT! and your trying to start a business?
Josh on the right is sooo distracting.
I have designed and built a 44in wing span b17, i need help on choosing props and motors. Its made out of foam board in true flite test fashion
Sad that I saw this 11 years ago !
Good video
@flitetest The forces involved are the exact same though and if the inner spacer / ring or whatever you'd call that plastic thingyfoo fits correctly, you won't notice anything. It's like changing the position of a washer to clamp a prop properly, but still keep it between two nuts.
In other words, the influence is totally and extremely negligible. ;-)
@deeringdeluxe There's really no need to respond to me like that, I even stated the motor direction defines which way the thrust will be.
But regardless of that a prop really should always face the correct side, as that's when it will work best (you can lose up to 50% thrust if its mounted backwards). A prop that's on a pusher plane will function like a pusher prop, even though you'll have to put it on backwards compared to the motor itself. So what exactly is your point?
I bought some cheap props from a seller on eBay in China last week for my DJI Phantom. I broke my original props that came with it and they are expensive to replace. When I received them they looked the same but were thinner and the tips of the propellers were slightly bent downward. Are these safe to fly my $1200.00 quad with? They didn't seem to preform very well when I tried them, it drifted a lot. Should I just fork up another $40.00 for original DJI props, or can you recommend some other solution? I like your show and thanks!
If I had a $1200 quad, i woudnt take any chances. I know nothing about propellers or quads though.
john hill your right i realize this is two months old but inferior props will snap much easier and will flex during high rpm situations, when your flying high you don't want the prop to break.
What about propeller rake?
Hello, how are you? Wonderful details on props. I would like to know that can I switch to single blade prop from a 3 blade prop. I have 1100mm fms typhoon.
what is the difference between 1045 and 1045r propeller?
I have no idea... but it might be r for reverse. Josh mentioned that you would want a reversed prop if you were running engines on a plane so that it wouldn't torque to one side
Building my 1st airplane fm scratch and dont kno how to get the prop on the Park 450 BL motor cuz ther r NO instructions? it has a funny looken collet-spinner thingy? AND the diameter of the motor shaft is BIGGER than the hole in my 10x7 prop? this is a GREAT video and starts wit 100 different props and how to pick the right one? well i think i gots the right one (?) but cnat evn get it on the airplane! i guess beginners r jst supose to B able to figure it out,,, kinda comical in a way :)
@deeringdeluxe It does! I made the mistake flying a Swift 2 with the prop backwards to what it should be and it really feels sluggish in flight. A prop mounted the wrong way will fly,yes but it will totally be less efficient and less thrusty. The motor direction defines whether it will move forward correctly, but you should never fly with a prop mounted backwards if this means the wrong way is pointing forward in flight.Don't forget props are shaped into a curvy surface that works like a paddle.
sooo, what's exactly the difference of a pusher? Has it a special form? Or it is just CW/CCW?
Nice work guys my q any stable rule for propller size with size and plans whight thank you
