Welcome back to The Ultimate Tech Hub. On today's episode we show you how to install any Wireless Access Point (WAP). Thank you for watching!
I really want to try one of these AP ones day ! Good video, I was just about to do a video this weekend like this but a bit different.
If you put up two AP's will they be the same network ID and PW?
About damn time
Are there different WAP's you'd recommend? I need 3 and don't really wanna spend 1200+ on access points. Other things to consider - I have 3gbs at the modem so I want to try to maintain that as much as possible / little degradation as possible... But the house is 5500 sqft and so I need 3 (one for each floor). Thanks very much.
To take advantage of those 3 gbps speeds you need PoE++ Access Points (2.5 gbps) and unfortunately they are usually a little pricey. Netgear may have some cheaper models that offer PoE++. You can check out Netgears website for the pricing and options. Good luck and keep me posted.
Hi, I am looking to install 2 WAP in my home(Ubiquiti UniFi 6 Lite) (one upstairs and one down) do I need two PoE injectors or is there a dual port PoE injector I can add to my low voltage panel? Also does this go from modem > router > PoE injector?
You could buy 2 PoE injectors but I would buy a entry level 8 port PoE managed switch. TP link makes them for about 150 dollars. This makes your network expandable for future PoE connections or regular network cables. Also the switch is manageable so you control the data to the WAPs .
Thanks for the vid. I have 3 locations one on each level of my 3 level home. After I install the WAP’s like you showed in the vid, what do I need to do at the boxes? There’s an exterior box on the side of the house and another box in the 2nd floor master bedroom closet. Is some kind of switch required? I appreciate all detail you’re able to provide about this. Thanks again.
The interior box in the second floor closet is where all the etherent cables should run to. This includes the etherent cables from all 3 WAPs. In the box you need a modem, router and a PoE managed switch to connect to the PoE WAPs. Hope this helps. I have over 100 home networking videos so make sure to check them out. Thank you for watching.
@@UltimateTechHub It has to be a managed switch?
@@Tommy-dz5zl Yes to run the WAPs you need a PoE managed switch. I have videos on how to use them. They are pretty easy and around 100 dollars.
Great acces point!
Super Fast!!! Thanks for watching!
Hi and thanks for the video 👍 … one question though … I have an existing wireless router from Spectrum with 4 Ethernet ports … I want to add a WAP to increase wifi capability to my garage but how does a WAP coexist with an existing router which has its own SSID? I assume the WAP will have a different SSID in which case any devices attached to the WAP SSID would then be on a different network from the router SSID? Will the devices on the two networks “see” each other or how does this work? I’m confused about this. Thanks 🙏
The 2nd router is an acces point. You will have 2 different SSIDs.
Can you use a poe ++ or poe + on a wax214 netgear wap
PoE and PoE+ for this model. It's a very good AP. I love my WAX630, super fast and reliable. Thank you for watching!
Ok quick question- which router and modem do you have inside your smart box that are compact enough to fit in there along with the AP and Switch? I currently have a bulky router and modem and they 100% don’t fit in there, so trying to downsize to have them all in one place but still want them to provide great mbps
I have a fiber ONT which is essentially a fiber modem and it's pretty small like a large deck of cards. My router is a Linksys Ax5400 which I zip tied to the panel door. I have 2 switches, I RUCKUS ICX and 1 Engenius 8 port PoE managed switch. Any PoE access point will work. I currently have 2 APs, 1 Netgear WAX630 and an Engenius wifi 6e AP. I have a recent video I can send you a link to if you want. Just let me know and thank you for watching.
@@UltimateTechHub gotcha. So now how would this work if I have a coaxial cable in the wall to my modem to provide internet, but wanting to put all this in the smart box? Because there arent any coaxial cable outlets in there. But there is a splitter. I’m just trying to have my modem and eero mesh system in that smart box upstairs, (because that’s where coverage matters the most) and so that I can plug in a switch in there too, and then ceiling mount an AP downstairs.
@@Intelbrat There's no coax in your smart box? You could call the cable company to have them run a coax to the smart box. They might charge you 25 dollars to do it.
@@UltimateTechHub OR, is the smart box only really for fiber internet? Since mine is coaxial, idk if I’d be able to do what I said in my comment above ^
@@Intelbrat Here is a video on my smart panel. It might help.

Can I use a network switch instead? And can I use regular cat cable?
Yes. You will need a PoE switch to power the AP. Otherwise you can use a DC power supply but that requires more wiring and a power outlet. And you can use a Cat5e or Cat6.
What is a good router to go with to feed the switch ?
ASUS, Netgear or TP Link will work great. Thank you for watching.
@@UltimateTechHub thank you for the advice!
Thoughts on ubiquiti access points ?
Very good company and I really like their access points. I use Netgear access points but ubiquiti is a great alternative. Thank you for watching.
What is the switch you are using?
It's a RUCKUS ICX Managed PoE Switch. I would recommend a TP-Link Jet Stream PoE Switch because the price point is much cheaper. The PoE Switch provides the power and data using the ethernet cable. Thank you for watching!
What about a surface-mount installation on a solid concrete ceiling? Is that even possible?
Yes but running the ethernet will be tricky.
Set one up tonight. Had a decent bend in my Ethernet . Thoughts ?
Does the bend affect the connection? One of my WAPs has a decent bend in the ethernet but it doesn't affect the signals.
Yeah. I’ll have to see once I get it up and running. I’m sure it’s fine. Just saw online that the bend shouldn’t be extreme
@@alexrein5838 You would be surprised how durable ethernet cables are. They can take beating!!! Lol. Keep me posted and thanks for watching.
Why did u change the access point u already had ?
I got a the AX630 AP for Netgear for testing and a commercial so we installed it to show the setup process. It's actually better than the RUCKUS in terms of wifi range and the features. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it.
So there's no power cord?
Nope the Ethernet cable provides power to the router. You can use a power cord if you want but it's just not necessary.
Awesome thanks
let me come get your wires together
