Joey Tempest, the singer, wrote this song. The keyboard intro was used at a night club in Sweden before it became a song. The guitar and drums have a UFO (the band) influence. You need to listen to their new albums, they all rock, especially War of Kings.
The disarming beauty of Joey and the other guys certainly helped but they had and still have a crazy talent! I love this band !! Even today they are still in business ... rock Forever 🤟
Completly agree ...they are EXTREMLY TALENTED...not properly supported by USA music industry after 90s...but quality won!! Now they are independent and succesfull!!
They're from Sweden. They did 5 albums 1983-1991 and 6 albums 2004-2017. React to "Rock The Night" and "Superstitious"! Since 2004 they do "less poppy" rock.
This is not a post breakup song. It's about the last space shuttle leaving earth when humanity has so leave a broken planet to inhabit another place in space. Hence the final countdown...
The story goes that the lead singer, Joey wrote the opening sequence when he was about 14 but didn’t do anything with it. Then about 3 or 3 years later, they were working on songs for this album and he played it for the bass player who told him he should finish the song. So he did but it was never meant to be a single. It was supposed to be just an album track and they planned to use it in their live shows to open with. The song was too long for a single anyway. But then when it came time to choose a debut single, they chose this one. They just thought it was a cool song to play live. But the song hit the airwaves and ended up going #1 in 45 different countries. They are still making new music and playing live and yes, they play this song to end every show. They love playing it because of the energy the crowd has. You should check out more of their stuff. Each album sounds different yet still sounds like them. They have a unique flavor that’s always there. Oh and their lives shows, even now are awesome.
europe still make music i seen them live twice in 1990 and 2018 and i was 16 when this was out. merry christmas and stay safe 😷🏴😘 i come from scotland. europe come from sweden
Europe is fire🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 + musics Europe band: "Sign of the times "; "Let the good times rock "; " Ninja" ; " Rock the Night "; " Dreamer"; " Stormwind"; " Scream of Angel": " Seventh sing" ; " Bad Blood" : "Never Say Die" : " Lights and Shadows"...
This song was originally made for the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger (first shuttle disaster) in the 80’s. The lyrics pertain to space travel and the band dedicated the song to the Challenger crew.
This is false. Joey Tempest originally wrote the keyboard riff as an opening fanfare for a discoteque. At the time he had no intention to use it for a Europe song (I imagine it would have been too much pop since Europe was a harder rocking band in the beginning) but he later recinsidered and used it for The Final Countdown.
I was 15 or 16 when this came out. I’ve only discovered your channel in the past few days and I’m seriously loosing sleep because I can’t stop watching 🤣. Your reactions are PURE GOLD! Thanks for doing all the hard work that goes into these videos.
Personally feel like It's one of their worse songs. It feels kinda bland compared to their other songs. Seven Doors Hotel is my personal favorite. Open your heart comes second
I was 4yo. The guitarist is John Norum, he also made a couple of solo albums and also played in Dokken and Don Dokken's solo backing band, filling the shoes of the great George Lynch
Hell yeah Billy....I always enjoy your reactions ....but the Europe ones have been on a whole other level...THANK YOU!!! Love Europe and yes...they are still together recording and performing live. Well done....thank you
I was nine when this song was released. I heard it for the first time when I went with my father to the radio station he was working at at the time. It was in the first hour of his four hour set on air. I’ve loved this song ever since.
I was - 14 at that time 😅 Honestly I wish I had lived in the 80s. if someone has a time machine to the 80s please let me know ! I'm just going to pack my bags and then we can go and stay there.
If you want to check out some more amazing Europe tracks, I highly recommend "Prisoners in Paradise", "Girl from Lebanon", "Yesterday's News", "Superstitious" and "More Than Meets the Eye". They have soooo many awesome tunes!
My Bar Mitzva took place a year after it came out, my mom loved it and pushed me to play this on piano for my school class at the party so Europe became the first band I knew by it's name, even before the Beatles
I'm already a teenager in 1986 and was already rocking this song and thought that the guitar solo was done by two guitars 'coz it's so fast, while you BillyYSC on the other hand was still in your Daddy's Nutsack!
Man, I was 9 wjen this came out and I had this playing on my radio daily when it released! Love it! You got to check out "Rock the Night", it was their 2nd single off of this album if I am correct... probably my favorite song from it.
They still tour in 2024, till the end of the year. Europe is unstoppable, so hope they continue touring in 2025 with new music. They evolved in the style and their songs became heavier. Check out the War of Kings when you get a chance
It's kind of a "breakup" - but this is humanity "breaking up" with Earth in favor of a new home planet. The "final countdown" is a spaceship. The "they" who will hopefully welcome us are the current inhabitants of whatever planet we end up on - but we'll still miss "her" (Mother Earth).
You are too funny!!! You are great, you appreciate the wonderful voice of that angel Joey Tempest and the skill of this band, sometimes not appreciated as it deserved !!
+BillyYSC Nope they haven't retired LOL. They were supposed to do a tour this year but unfortunately Covid hit and all cancelled. Ohh and I was 7yrs old in 1986.
Buffalo is my AFC team. But live in South Carolina so pull for Panthers too. Went to Bill's games when little with QB Joe Ferguson and RB Joe Cribb. Through the Jom Kelly Bruuuuce years. Most underrated player ever was Steve Tasker
This is a very good song It's the final countdown I haven't listened to song in a while I'm so glad you're showing it feel like thank you very much I really appreciate you
I'm hoping when I get better I can get me a yellow guitar I've always wanted one ever since I was a teenager my mom taught my brother one but she didn't get me one he got a blue one
I love “Final Countdown” and Europe. I’ve been trying to get someone to react to this for quite a while! Great reaction Billy 👍🏻🥰‼️ I’m from Jamestown, NY (about 60-90 miles from Buffalo), but I’m not a Bills fan (all I know about them is O.J. played for them). I’m a Denver Broncos fan and my favorite player is Von Miller #58; fave from former years is John Elway # 7. College, I’m a BAMA fan (Crimson Tide) ROLL TIDE 🐘🏈❤️.
The song is about leaving earth and looking for another planet to live on maybe venus. Its not about breaking up a relationship, just listen too the words instead of stopping it and talking about your American football team that has absolutely nothing to do with football which is a game that you kick the ball with your legs and scoring goals. 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️👮♂️👮♂️👮♂️👮♂️🚓🚔🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hmm 86 is a kinda strange year for us Swedes. Its the Year when our Primeminister Olof Palmes got gundown when he left a Cinema with his wife. I remember it clearly still to this day. So I was going in fourth grade, and remember how the Swedish society was kinda in shock. How it could happen, well, at those years our politcians could actually walk among the population like ordninary people and no one would notice them. ITs not possible today.

Might add in that they started as a heavy metal band. Their debut album is pure classic heavy metal. Even their second album is mostly heavy metal.
I think one them has Italian background
It's not a break-up song. It's literally about going to space.
This is not a post breakup song. It's about the last space shuttle leaving earth when humanity has so leave a broken planet to inhabit another place in space. Hence the final countdown...
In a way, it's humanity "breaking up" with Earth.

The album version plays longer with a continuation of the song followed by a fade out.
Europe is fire🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
+ musics Europe band: "Sign of the times "; "Let the good times rock "; " Ninja" ; " Rock the Night "; " Dreamer"; " Stormwind"; " Scream of Angel": " Seventh sing" ; " Bad Blood" : "Never Say Die" : " Lights and Shadows"...
I went to Europe consert in 1989 they played the final countdown and they are from Sweden John Norum the guitar player is from norway.
14 in 1986 . Found out about this group from a foreign exchange student who stayed with my cousin . His favorite band was Europe .
This song was originally made for the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger (first shuttle disaster) in the 80’s. The lyrics pertain to space travel and the band dedicated the song to the Challenger crew.
Odd, since the earliest version was recorded (1985) before the disaster (1986). Actually, it was inspired by Bowie's Space Oddity.
This is false. Joey Tempest originally wrote the keyboard riff as an opening fanfare for a discoteque. Nonsense!

Thanks for doing all the hard work that goes into these videos.
Superstitious is another really good song from Europe
Personally feel like It's one of their worse songs. It feels kinda bland compared to their other songs. Seven Doors Hotel is my personal favorite. Open your heart comes second
I was 4yo. The guitarist is John Norum, he also made a couple of solo albums and also played in Dokken and Don Dokken's solo backing band, filling the shoes of the great George Lynch
Joey Tempest has an amazing voice
And John Norum really knew how to play that guitar!
JOEY HAVE A WARM TENOR VOICE NATURAL TUNED
Yes they are from Europe. The members are from Sweden and Norway I believe.
All of them are swedish.
Explains all that blond hair!
@@andreienciu750 Norum is half Norwegian and half Swedish I think.
Yay, no longer blocked! I been waiting for this!
Hell yeah Billy....I always enjoy your reactions ....but the Europe ones have been on a whole other level...THANK YOU!!! Love Europe and yes...they are still together recording and performing live. Well done....thank you
Living in Sweden, I remember this playing on the radio... I was 11 years old in -86 ;)
lucky you!
Loved, LOVED Playing this song in Pep band for the sporting games! Even the opposing teams would jump up and dance!
I was nine when this song was released. I heard it for the first time when I went with my father to the radio station he was working at at the time. It was in the first hour of his four hour set on air. I’ve loved this song ever since.
They r legends brother,14yrs old long hair headbangin to this. was the bomb back then.good reaction.
I was three years old. And they stil going strong. You should check them out and maybe check out "Walk the Earth" for example
I was - 14 at that time 😅
Honestly I wish I had lived in the 80s.
if someone has a time machine to the 80s please let me know !

EUROPE TIME CAPSULE 40 ANNIVERSARY* TOUR
I was 3. Been loving this song my whole life.
80's music the best rock hair bands
In 1986 I was 4 and this group is a classic band.🙌🙌🙌
1986...15 years young...teenage years were the best especially with great 80s music...hairbands of the 80s were awesome!
Cherokee is another song you need to experience
I remember watching this as a child
I was 25 and remember this song and the head banging hair flipping that went with the air guitar.
My Bar Mitzva took place a year after it came out,
my mom loved it and pushed me to play this on piano for my school class at the party
so Europe became the first band I knew by it's name, even before the Beatles
It’s finally unblocked! Was waiting for this! Great reaction. ( and yes they are still together )
I'm already a teenager in 1986 and was already rocking this song and thought that the guitar solo was done by two guitars 'coz it's so fast, while you BillyYSC on the other hand was still in your Daddy's Nutsack!

9 yrs old and this group very underrated. This song is EPIC and is used often in movies for those epic moments!
Whatever mood I’m in, you strike up the good shit, Billy. 👊🏼
I was 20 years old when this came out. And Yes it is a great song. And fantastic reaction. Good job.
first guitar solo that i learned when i started playing
They still tour in 2024, till the end of the year. Europe is unstoppable, so hope they continue touring in 2025 with new music. They evolved in the style and their songs became heavier. Check out the War of Kings when you get a chance
They still make records. Would be fun to see you react to Europe - New Love in Town. Or Last Look At Eden.
I've been working for years to try to write a full-length parody based on the Care Bear Countdown
We need it
I was 13 in 1986 and I always took it as a post apocalyptic story the last spaceship to leave earth
They didn’t want this to be a singel. They made for an opening song to the conserts

You should react to Cherokee, it deals with the trail of tears! Also Rock the Night is an amazing song!
In 1986 I was about six sails over the horizon hahaha!
Cheers for your reaction! Europe kicked ass!!
The song is about post-nuclear survivors trying to escape into space to colonize other planets, not a post-breakup couple.
I didn’t exist in 86 but my ‘rents got married then.
This band is legendary
It’s more of a physically leaving earth, even perhaps a foreshadowing of a spiritual ascension ❤️😉
You should try Carrie from Europe
It's my most favorite band!!!
Yes they are still together and was touring until 2020
Europe is a great band!!! ,they are more than TFC ... I recommend Walk the earth to appreciate the evolution of the band.
Not quite retired yet ma boy 🙃✌🏼🤘🏼 New Love in town is a new addition to their discography
You should listen to Seven Doors Hotel. It's one of their more heavy songs
Dude you're just flat out awesome
They are not talking about breakups they are talking about leaving earth because nothing is left.
I was 11 in 1986 and I got to enjoy this song 🤘🏼
Buffalo is my AFC team. But live in South Carolina so pull for Panthers too. Went to Bill's games when little with QB Joe Ferguson and RB Joe Cribb. Through the Jom Kelly Bruuuuce years. Most underrated player ever was Steve Tasker
This song is about space travel, shout out from Sverige though! (Sweden)
This is a very good song It's the final countdown I haven't listened to song in a while I'm so glad you're showing it feel like thank you very much I really appreciate you
Billy messed around and found out hes been sleeping on these 80's bands.
I was 23, getting old, oh well maybe an oldie, but damn I'm good!!!!!!!!
I was 20 years old when it came out and I was in another country to work
born 93 i love this!
Europe are a Swedish group from Stockholm...
this song of my favorite band sounds in every places and the radio you hear the first time really jajajaja i don't believe you .
As a matter of fact, it's about leaving Earth but yes I get why you think that.
In '86 I was 14. I remember when the song was new and Aquanet was making some major bank from the girls and the hair bands.
1 was 18 in 1986. I just graduated high school.
I was 22 -86 and i didnt make a fool of my self like you do.
I was 17..the perfect age for enjoying the music..lol
I'm hoping when I get better I can get me a yellow guitar I've always wanted one ever since I was a teenager my mom taught my brother one but she didn't get me one he got a blue one
I want this played at my funeral
Or that day when the world ends. Throwing the most epic party ever, finishing it off with this as a finale when everything blows up.
I was 10...80's most definitely had the funniest music!!!!
I was one year old...I remember it well.
that guitar solo ....
Go, Bills!!! You have to checkout Firehouse, Love of a Lifetime.
I was 18 when this song came out
🤣 i was 3 in 1986. This song will always be amazing!
I was in the 6th grade when this song came out
I was 15 going on 16 and yes this was a bad ass song.
He got struck when that glorious guitar solo started :p
The song is about leaving earth and looking for another planet to live on maybe venus. No one circles the wagons, like the Buffalo Bills!

The song came out in 1986, I was 11 years old.
Swedes are brilliant regarding break up songs. I strongly recommend "Knowing me, knowing you" or "The winner takes it all" by ABBA.
Love love love this song
yep, i was 18
