- I have been searching for a quality Mini-ITX test bench that was built well but affordable for some time now. I stumbled across this open air case from a company called Electric Magic. I took a risk, and now I'm glad I did.

4 years later this video is still very helpful in making a decision on buying the product. Great video, exactly what I was looking for.
Good review. If you ever get really stuck and only have the Chinese instructions, Google translate on your phone will let you snap a photo of the text and give you a passable translation. I've had to use it a few times.
+1 Great suggestion, I didn't even think of that
please name the knife u used, please.
Watching in 2022! Great review! Nice camera work and commentary!
Nice! Check out the most recent vid I did on a much better option
Thanks @Tek Everything, bought the open case for my new rig after watching this video and it is truly solid.
Thanx for the upload. I always wanted a mini atx open air mount, never found one. I was about to make my own but now I think I'll buy this.
It would be even better if you used a modular power supply and a SATA NVMe HD to reduce visible cables.
The best open air itx case ive seen! Full atx psu and can also install any gpu... flawless!
And its cheap
i love it.
i think this is one of the best choices among traveling PC case.
Great find, great review, it's good to see someone who doesn't just throw money at a problem as that's how most of us viewers (now subscriber) have to approach things.
Thanks Paul!
Came Cross a couple of these from a friend who never wanted them .Just had to checkout this excellent review of one.Cheers man!
Thanks for the review! i've just ordered one, I can't wait for it to arrive, i'm planning on doing some modification to it, like replacing the plastic pieces with some metal bracket, and maybe moving the power supplay on the bottom of the motherboard
3D printer users know this rail system well. Too bad they don't supply t-nuts. I see a lot of potential in this type of design, especially sin e I can design and print the parts I would want, such as a switch holder. Nice review.
Nice job , Jay. I picked a full ATX version on eBay and can't wait to test it out on a new build I'll be working on. Great vid!
I'm looking to get the ATX version myself! How was it?
@@NewLondonMarshall It is a nice piece of hardware. Solid and performed as expected. Highly recommended.
@@johnalex174 Awesome to hear! Thank you! I will order right away as my overclocked FX-8350 struggles with temperatures in any case and just opening the side panel helps A LOT!
Once again amazing high quality video, I encourage all of you guys to share this channel with your other pc/tech savvy friends. And props to you for making the vid.
Thanks Tommy! I appreciate the support.
do you think these racks will fit two 240mm radiators? i have a cpu aio and a gpu aio
I think you will struggle with the ITX model, but they also make an ATX model which might have radiator support! Not sure about 2x 240 rads though that is rather a lot!
That box cutter, though... name?
Nice video and review. The test bench looks good and practical. As a fan of small form factor computers I'm hoping you'll make videos more frequently. Keep up the good work. =)
Thanks Kenneth, it can be tough making vids sometimes with my schedule, but I have some in the works. I should be very active over the next few weeks.
Very Well Presented Video
I've been looking at constructing an open air rig as opposed to going into my main PC.
😎
Just put one together. Real pain to align everything up. Suggest you use blue lock tight on the standoffs. Just ordered the M-ITX version on Amazon it seems like they have stocked up.
I used a thin cardboard template to mark the standoffs from the motherboard and then used that template to set the standoffs in the bench's frame. I have built two to date; the vertical red/black variant test bench. One for my home office and the other on a shelf in our family room, just behind the large TV. The nice thing about these vertical test-bench's...they do not take up a lot of room and are made of quality materials. Assembly, once you have gone through the experience...is very straight forward. They certainly look novel and do keep the components cool. Open access makes cleaning dust a breeze. I have 2x120 RGB fans mounted on the plaxiglass side mount that comes with the vertical variant. Also, 2x90mm at the top to cool the motherboard VRM heatsink. No regrets with the two purchases for about $75 each.
dont often see someone using a parachute knife to open boxes . Respect
Can we get the name of that epic Box Cutter you used at the beginning?
looks like a smith and wesson powerglide.
@Tek Everything
Look for an alternative lian li q33b case (discontinued) with the high and tall similar kind of design with the laying motherboard. Very sleak and good disgn to let u install NOCTUA nh d15s or Darkrock 4 pro (important).
These all come from china/alibaba/aliexpress. They can be found cheap if you are willing to wait. Even the amazon ones are just ordered from the same sources in china.
What a really neat and tidy little solution, really like the simplicity of it,when built.Really nicei video man.
Thank you very much you have been very helpful
Idk if anybody pointed that out yet but on the amazon page for this product there is a picture of the instructions in English.
how do you mount two hard drives i was planing too build a second dary pc for my nephew because i need a ssd and a 500 gb sata drive
11:52 Wow, the Mobo is really bent close to the PCI slot. Seems like something went wrong there.
Thank you so much for flipping that PSU lol
Hi there.
First of all. Thank you very much for this video.
Can you please provide me with the information about the length of the profiles (so called sigma profiles) and I assume that these profiles (the longer ones red and the shorter ones black) are 20x20mm but I would like to know their exact length in mm. Thank you in advance.
I'd be most concerned about that flimsy acrylic piece holding the PSU - even SFX power supplies can get pretty heavy with the power density we have now. I pop test rigs in and out of storage all the time and I'd likely break that. Otherwise, this test bench makes the Geeek product look like a toy!
Agreed, that is definitely the most likely point of failure. I'm considering getting a cheap piece of aluminum and making a new HD bracket with my Dremel.
За мной следят, помогите! Я с другом говорил о открытом тестовом стенде, и теперь мне в рекомендациях выдают подобные видео. Хорошее видео. Где моя шапочка из фольги?
lazer 3D looking good in your computer setup
I'm planning on building a fanless mini ITX system for use as my firewall. The issue is that most of the mini ITX cases will not fit a full height PCIe dual lan NIC card. This seems like it would be great since it allows you to use different size PSUs and full height PCIe expansion cards.
This is actually pretty good. Thanks for the review!
Wow! Never knew this thing exist. I'd like to get one. Browsing the page on Amazon, it appears there's also a M-ATX version available too. I have a rare mini-DTX form factor mobo lying around waiting for a perfect case to fit in.
Glad I watched this as I've just ordered one of these, or very similar, so now I know where everything goes. One question. How do you know where to position the middle short rail without first test-fitting the psu?
What is the approximate weight of the entire build? Can it take a micro ATX Mobo?
I think the orientation of the hard drive vertically like shown is not recommended, it is said to be harmful for drive pen and media. It is not problem for SSDs.
I bought one of thoes too and it builds ok
Not watched your channel before man but really enjoyed this content. Subbed.
Thanks man, welcome to the channel
what kind of cpu cube case that lights red at the back of him?
I have one of this running on my rig rite now. No English manual so I had to use up my last remaining brain cells to put this together. It's a little flimsy but I try not to move it around too much but I wouldn't buy this again. I would rather get one of Linus Tech test bench if I ever have to buy another open Test Bench
I do like your channel, I hope to build my first AMD Ryzen 2 ITX in the near future. Thanks
Great video! Helped me a lot.
Would these be sturdy enough for permanent builds
what is that cpu cooler and how tall is it? I'm looking for something slightly better than a C7 for my node 202 build.
The cooler is the Reeven Brontes, it's 59mm tall. A quality cooler.
That box opener looks dangerous
AliExpress has this case and many others like it(Open air, aluminum extrusions) for miniITX, microATX, ATX, and E-ATX.
they got english instruction in amazon
Love your vids man.
Good video bro! I was actually worried when you pulled the parts out at first, looked kinda cheap. LMAO! I'm just getting started with the idea of a test bench!
Ha, well it is only $38... I would forgive some cheap parts
A micro atx motherboard won't work with this test bench / is too big? This particular test bench is the only one that comes with prime 2 day shipping on amazon.
do you think you can link me all your components, ive been looking to make a pc using that frame and motherboard, but im a beginner so im worried about compatibility between hardware.
off topic what kind of knife is that? its dope?
this is basically how the cheap 3d printers are built out of, but the price is rather high, so might as well get a 3d printed with these parts and use it as pc case and sell off or save those 3d printer specific parts for later
Looking forward to watching this when I saw the word affordable! It was great to watch but I was hoping to see affordable as in low end gaming/video editing affordable rig in a mini-ITX form. Anything in the pipeline please?
I definitely have a build coming up. Not sure how affordable it will be though.
what is this monitor back there?
It would be best if the PSU and HDD can mount under the motherboard like a second floor.
I specifically need one without that for low profile setups. It's almost impossible to find a single layer bench.
yes, lucky I took chinese class in my high school. No regret.
sorry to go off topic...whats up with the knife??? name of design???
LINK TO AMAZON ISNT OPENING ? do you guys have any other link to this product
Mucho interesante
Gracias
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Do you think this case could work with a 120mm AIO? Like would there be a place to mount it?
I was thinking about that while I was building. You could add a mounting point for an AIO where the hard drive sits if you use an M.2 SSD. You could also mount one next to the hard drive, and rout the power switches under the support bar.
What's good for a laptop motherboard?
Can you review geeek cases as well? I would love to see a review on a30
Checked the sub box and bingo!!!! keep em comin
I’m looking into making the switch from console to pc, I have a question though. How often would you have to upgrade your graphics card ? Is it like every year ?
That will depend on what you are trying to do. If you are trying to mimic a console experience you could keep a GPU for 2-4 years imo. If you want the highest frame rates at maximum settings you may will need to upgraded more frequently.
Tek Everything Thanks for the reply! I’m looking for something that I can do some light gaming (cities skylines) and produce music. Would a ryzen 3 2200 be enough to handle those things?
Nice video and review. I’m always of fan of anything mini ITX. I know it’s more expensive, but check out the Streacom BC1 Mini for a pretty sweet CNC machined mini ITX test bench.
So I have had my eye on the BC1 for a while now... I just can't justify spending that much on a testbench. I do love the design and layout though.
I just bought one for 50 bucks on ebay , but its the ATX version With 7 pci posts. Just waiting for it to be delivered.
Nice, that version is nice too
Great vid!
What is the case called you reviewed
Nice video bro thanks
can this accommodate dtx?
dude were did you get knife like
Thx for great video, I was thinking sometimes maybe I can use a test bench. Do you think this can be use for daily usage?
It could definitely be used as a daily open air case. Once assembled it's really sturdy. As long as you have a plan for the dust buildup you should be good to go.
@@Tekeverything Thanks a lot for answer!
What msi is it?
Aluminum extrusions. 😂 I’m gonna try and build an itx frame out of these parts.
did you ?
Can it support Micro atx motherboard
Yep It fits, just needs to move the mounnting hardware around to align with the screws on the mobo
Your knife looks nice, what's the name of it?
Bro you bought an erector set. I had almost all of those parts between sets I had when I was a kid. They're toys that teach kids engineering.
I'm assuming that you didn't want all the room taken by a standard test bench? Since they will accommodate mini-ITX MB.
Interesting little bench none the less. . Thumbs up from me.
Exactly, whats the point of having compact components if you need a giant bench to test them out.
@@Tekeverything, indeed this is true. XD . I wanna build more "rigs" and test benches but has no room. lol. keep up the decent videos sir.
great vidio but the gave you glove becas it shap maybey
I have seen this exact pc case on aliexpress.
link or name?
Got one
Music : Bản Nhạc Hai Tám
I've never seen a test bench that small before.
not that affordable people are selling those like they are a full case. the prices are the same.
can i put M-ATX on this?
Yep It fits, just needs to move the mounnting hardware around to align with the screws on the mobo
Neat.
To Tek Everything: try checking out aliexpress or dealextreme. purchase directly from the chineese retailers.
Its been a while since your last video. I hope you're doing well and good!
I am doing great, just busy with work and life. I have 4 videos in the pipeline though, stay tuned!
taobao always have stock, can ask a Chinese friend to help buy it
this case just uses t slot extrusion rails for people who do not know and just want to build their own styles
Is this the guy from The Verge?
I'm thinking you just 3d print the parts you need to do the same thing.
I want buy
I am from India
there is one even cheaper.. a motherboard tray that looks basically like this and is just around $2 and serves the exact same purpose as this one.
acrylic parts - matter of time when they will crack
