It can start the dilemma of them trying to reach that success with every song they create in the future which will make them lose creativity and make them unable to produce, them being criticized for not reaching that success anymore which may make them lose passion, or they may just one day lose the will to create all of a sudden (because it has happened to artists) and they fear of that fall.

I don't doubt that RM took some visualization and inspiration about the inner life of a dancer from the 2010 movie, but the theme of the song aligns with the Martha Graham quote, not the movie. The movie's theme is about the thin divide between having passion for ones art, vs. a dangerous obsession with perfection. Nathalie Portman actually descends into madness while chasing perfection. I think the idea that the movie inspired the song was an idea someone casually tossed out in an interview or article, and it was repeated so many times that people just accepted it as fact.
The movie and the song/mv has similarities yet very different so I won't say the song follow the movie. The movie explore mental illness. The song is about losing one's passion. The themes are wholly different even though the connector is dance. But Martha was a legendary contemporary dancer and the mv has contemporary dancing. A beautiful song, very artistic, with a very deep, a personal lyrics. Choreography is a lot more contemporary, beautifully performed by all the members, Jimin really shines here with his elegant yet intense dance, that conveys emotions perfectly. He is also Jungkook’s and Suga’s shadow and JHope is Namjoon’s.
The song "Love Myself" saved my life. It pulled me out of a dark place in my head and helped me find the strength to not be afraid to love myself and to speak my truth.
I’ve always loved this song. As the album explores Jungian psychology of developing the self (ego), you have to recognize the outer persona you project to others and reconcile the “shadows”, that part of your personality you try to hide. It seems ironic to me that BTS excels at their shadows in all of their albums. 😊 But even looking at Filter, and its message, I think artists can get wrapped up by what their audience (fans) want, rather than what they want to create. I’ve read somewhere that those K-pop groups that last beyond their debut often disband after their first contract (typically 7 years). I think it’s admirable that they even question whether they still have that passion to create and perform.

Artists in all fields will relate to this. I myself, i digitally draw for a living. If i find myself not passionate about it anymore or something happened to my hands, i would be devastated like i had died or something. That would be really hard for anyone who can't continue to do what they love the most.

Most of these are newer armys who only came to know of them during the Butter era *sigh* and unfortunately, I notice that the majority don't really deep dive into BTS so they only know their more hyped content and random compilation videos on youtube. I bet the majority of armys who were on chat LIVE doesn't even know the Black Swan Art film exists 🥲 There is even a bangtan bomb of the boys reacting to it. I wish newer armys took out the time to actually watch old bts content, B-side tracks and so on as well.
I can understand losing artistic passion, i.e. first death. I was so much into drawing/sketching/painting with pen/paper/brush, as a kid in the mid 1970's & all of the 1980's, especially drawing the spaceships as realistically as possible. By the late 1980's, without realizing it or self-aware, I was pretty much near the end into that kind of artwork. In the beginning, I was drawing Star Wars & other sci-fi stuff & was so crazed about it. Later on, at college, I was into drawing technical illustrations, such as designing speaker enclosures & keyboard synthesizer case designs, etc. Then about a decade later, I got into CAD, i.e. drawing 3D stuff on computer. I drew up a 3D model of a kitchen island, which actually got built (by carpenters, not me). Then that too got diminished, although I still do some sparse 3D room designs for architecture. I'm not a professional at any of that. Even my love for piano sort of died out in the late 1980's, although I still have a MIDI keyboard & use a DAW every now & then. I almost got a job recording a guitarist, but I told him I was not ready to be his recording engineer, simply because I hadn't done it in a long time. I still bang my head for that, I should have kept practicing consistently. And I still haven't, lol. I also did plastic scale modeling kits in the mid 1970's, which died by the mid 1980's, but I still have all the models I've built. There is something about getting bored of something. Maybe real life situations, or real life in general, peel those things away & you either move on with other passions/hobbies that you want to try out or you just don't have the free time anymore because you are immersed in work that doesn't have anything to do with it. Growing up is a pain (pun, growing pains). If I have to, I will sketch/draw things out a little bit, but it would for practicality's sake & not just for "art" . As I look back, I have to wonder if technical illustrating was what I was supposed to get into (as a field of work). I just don't have that crazy passion for drawing on paper anymore, as the art of drawing was my first love ... & first death.

I've been watching each of your reactions to BTS and I think that what's happening is that Army likes to talk about all the symbolism and connectivity in their music. I think it's causing you to start to overanalyze. I often witness you overreaching for some meaning or symbolic message. The lyrics in this song are pretty straightforward. Martha Graham is the person to "coin" the idea of a dancer dying their first death when they're unable to dance anymore. This has a broader connotation with anyone who is created and fears losing the passion for that or they're coming a time where they are unable to be creative. In this song BTS is talking about the fear of not having the passion or losing the creativity or the ability to write and perform and dance. They use the idea of the first death to describe that. The repeated reference to film me now is a metaphor for document this, remember this, because it may not always be this way. By the end of the song they talk about getting that passion back.

I love watching reactions to Black Swan and how invested they are to understanding what they are singing about. There is one ☝️ thing that frustrates me in a good way lol It’s when they don’t pay attention to the lyrics at the very beginning when Suga sings/raps about the MUSIC 🎵. And so, through the whole music video they are wondering about what BTS are talking about when they say if they aren’t moved anymore or it doesn’t make their heart race, it would be their first death. Artists in all fields will relate to this. I myself, i digitally draw for a living. If i find myself not passionate about it anymore or something happened to my hands, i would be devastated like i had died or something. That would be really hard for anyone who can't continue to do what they love the most.
I think the insistent 'do your thang' as the demand for the artist to continue to produce whatever, even when passion is gone.
First death is about losing inspiration as an artist or losing the capacity of creating art. Sometimes there's al the fear of their art don't resonates anymore. 💜

I went to Las Vegas concert and is out of this world their performance. Ironically when I heard the song gofre the fist time I don’t like it, but when you still listening, watch the video and understand the meaning is different
"A dancer dies twice-once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.”--Martha Graham. Ms. Graham's quote pertains to the loss of passion as a dancer-or retiring even...the ultimate loss to a dancer, and this also applies in many ways to the Black Swan movie. I think BTS incorporated many things in this performance from that, but mainly transmits the fear of loss of passion of their music-losing oneself, or control over oneself. It is quite deep but hauntingly lovely.

Most of these are newer armys who only came to know of them during the Butter era *sigh* and unfortunately, I notice that the majority don't really deep dive into BTS so they only know their more hyped content and random compilation videos on youtube. I bet the majority of armys who were on chat LIVE doesn't even know the Black Swan Art film exists 🥲 There is even a bangtan bomb of the boys reacting to it.
I wish newer armys took out the time to actually watch old bts content, B-side tracks and so on as well.
I can understand losing artistic passion, i.e. first death. I was so much into drawing/sketching/painting with pen/paper/brush, as a kid in the mid 1970's & all of the 1980's, especially drawing the spaceships as realistically as possible. By the late 1980's, without realizing it or self-aware, I was pretty much near the end into that kind of artwork. In the beginning, I was drawing Star Wars & other sci-fi stuff & was so crazed about it. Later on, at college, I was into drawing technical illustrations, such as designing speaker enclosures & keyboard synthesizer case designs, etc. Then about a decade later, I got into CAD, i.e. drawing 3D stuff on computer. I drew up a 3D model of a kitchen island, which actually got built (by carpenters, not me). Then that too got diminished, although I still do some sparse 3D room designs for architecture. I'm not a professional at any of that. Even my love for piano sort of died out in the late 1980's, although I still have a MIDI keyboard & use a DAW every now & then. I almost got a job recording a guitarist, but I told him I was not ready to be his recording engineer, simply because I hadn't done it in a long time. I still bang my head for that, I should have kept practicing consistently. And I still haven't, lol. I also did plastic scale modeling kits in the mid 1970's, which died by the mid 1980's, but I still have all the models I've built. There is something about getting bored of something. Maybe real life situations, or real life in general, peel those things away & you either move on with other passions/hobbies that you want to try out or you just don't have the free time anymore because you are immersed in work that doesn't have anything to do with it. Growing up is a pain (pun, growing pains). If I have to, I will sketch/draw things out a little bit, but it would for practicality's sake & not just for "art" . As I look back, I have to wonder if technical illustrating was what I was supposed to get into (as a field of work). I just don't have that crazy passion for drawing on paper anymore, as the art of drawing was my first love ... & first death.

It is, I believe, a reference from dance - a dancers first death is when they lose their passion for the dance. It is quite deep in its meaning. A beautiful song with a stunning MV.

I think “do ur thang” is what they’re being asked to do what they want but by “what’s my thang”, they mean to ask u what their passion is b/c now they’ve lost it and with that, have died their first death. And the last one where the shadow retreats is their dancing/singing spirit finally leaving them. That’s how I see it.

I've been watching each of your reactions to BTS and I think that what's happening is that Army likes to talk about all the symbolism and connectivity in their music. I think it's causing you to start to overanalyze.
I often witness you overreaching for some meaning or symbolic message. The lyrics in this song are pretty straightforward. Martha Graham is the person to "coin" the idea of a dancer dying their first death when they're unable to dance anymore.
This has a broader connotation with anyone who is created and fears losing the passion for that or they're coming a time where they are unable to be creative.
In this song BTS is talking about the fear of not having the passion or losing the creativity or the ability to write and perform and dance.
They use the idea of the first death to describe that. The repeated reference to film me now is a metaphor for document this, remember this, because it may not always be this way.
By the end of the song they talk about getting that passion back.
This is a trap people seem to fall into unfortunately. Takes all the enjoyment out of the music for me when every little thing is analysed to death. Not specifically criticising this reactor- just seems to happen a lot.

I always thought the "do your thang" referred to the shadows and fears inside of them and then the reconciling and accepting of those shadows and fears in order to become more whole. At least that's how I interpreted it.

I always hear the "Do your thang" part as representing the constant external demands on them. As if the people saying "do your thang" are the audience, the critics, the company, and BTS is just echoing that. We always want more from them. That pressure for the next big thing can really be stifling.
armys in your livestream are frustrated also i can tell. theyre not afraid of losing their careers, of having all of this end. they're prepared. as Suga always says, hes not afraid of falling bc its gonna be a smooth landing. I love watching reactions to Black Swan and how invested they are to understanding what they are singing about.
There is one ☝️ thing that frustrates me in a good way lol
It’s when they don’t pay attention to the lyrics at the very beginning when Suga sings/raps about the MUSIC 🎵. And so, through the whole music video they are wondering about what BTS are talking about when they say if they aren’t moved anymore or it doesn’t make their heart race, it would be their first death.
