    Its cool to see what my old AFSC evolved into. In the 80's I was a Communications Computer Systems Operator. I worked on mainframe computer systems. Mainly an IBM 4381. The tech school was at Keesler even back then.

    I’ve been seriously considering joining the Air Force and this is the job I am the most interested in so I searched it on RUclips and found Jonathan’s channel and I have been watching Air Force videos trying to find out as much information as possible.

    Hey Kyle. I was in your AFSC prior to joining what eventually became this one (This was 491X1 / X=7 for me) and we worked mainframes on a base level. I was even stationed at Okinawa as Structural Repair in the 18th before it combined with Corrosion Control (they used to be seperate AFSC's).

    Nothing against this guy but not really much info about the 3D0X2 career field. If you want folks to learn about cyber ops you should be interviewing folks with more experience in the job and not A1Cs.
    As for advice because I don't want to just nitpick. Cyber Ops is what you make it. If you're lazy don't expect to get the experience you need for a six figure IT job on the outside. Get out of your comfort zone and jump on those hard to solve trouble tickets and projects. The folks who excel do so because they have the drive and initiative to solve tough problems. There is usually no guidance when it comes to troubleshooting system issues outside of more senior technicians who have seen similar issues in the past. Be ready for trial and error as well as a lot of google and frustration trying to get answers from Tier 1 administrators.

      If you already have Sec + then you still go through technical school, you just graduate after completing your courses while everybody else stays at least an extra 2 weeks to stress their minds out about having to try to pass Sec +

    Hey could I still get this job if I qualify even if I know nothing about cyber security? My asvab was a 76 w solid composite scores can’t remember off the top of my head but I really want to get into cyber security because of the job outlook into the future and think the Air Force is the best way to do that?

      Yes you can, they will send you to technical school to train you. I knew almost nothing about IT before joining the Air Force besides RUclips and Facebook

    Whats the differences between this and cyber transport system? I get both are IT but in what ways??

      Cyber transport deals with more hardware and physical aspects of IT. Such as routers, switches, taclanes, cabling, etc. Cyber Systems are generically your server/sys admin guys.

    Hey im thinking about joining the air Force I am a senior in highschool and am interested in the I.T. field, I am already in a computer tech class for half my day that covers, A+ certification, and basic networking including setting up industrial servers and switches, as well as cyber security, would this be a good fit for me?

      You can get certain certificates for stuff your learn in tech school, which can help you out if you pursuit IT work after the Air Force and do more college studying in it. An IT job outside of the Air Force range from 40k-100k yearly salary.

      Slightly shorter. You still have to go through the entirety of training, you just dont have to do the extra 2 weeks I believe it is to study for the test because you already have it

    My boyfriend left for basic on July 31 and he booked this job and I'm pretty sure on the airforce website says that tech school is 56 days not 4 months is this right?

      Its about 4 months. He should be getting out pretty soon if he started basic July 31 that means he’ll probably be graduating tech school somewhere in February or early March (if he passes everything first try and there arent long waits for classes).

      Yes and no... everyone gets base pay.. however some jobs get bonuses like hazard pay if stationed in a combat environment (hence probably not this job, maybe of you actually getting deployed but I'm not positive on that)

      This is more like information technology more than computer science but they definitely overlap eachother. Cyber surety ironically does not deal with cyber security at all. Cyber security would be 1B4X1 Cyber Warfare Operations

    I reviewed reddit and it says tech school is 56 days. Are you sure it was 4 months? I’m thinking about taking RAP depending on ur answer lol.

      54 class room days. That doesn't count, your first 1-4 weeks you'll be at tech school in processing and doing details, weekends, down days, or holidays.

      Yes it's considered a permanent makeup so it needs to follow the regulations. It needs to blend well and not be "flashy" so just don't go y=mx+b on them lol

      No, you do not. It is recommended, but even if you have 0 experience in IT, you will learn all you need to know during tech school.
