Assuming insurance doesn't constantly pay for all the stolen merchandise (and I feel confident saying that, eventually, insurance would stop paying out the losses because the company isn't trying to stop the theft,) Lululemon is just going to go out of business.

      Anyone who actually worked retail knows how it works. The ones that can call are loss prevention and there are rules to that as well to limit liability. After all if the person stops the robber even before they robbed and left the store you are trying to stop a crime that may not have even taken place. Also if you do run after someone in the parking lot the criminal may run you over and companies do not want a you to be run over or b you to file a lawsuit at them for that. They file tax returns and claim this loss people! They know they are going to lose a percentage of units per day it’s how they get tax rebates!! Let the loss preventions do their job, and report it to corporate. It is not your responsibility ever to defend a company.

    The problem is by not getting the proper authorities involved, your perpetuating this behavior and in turn putting your employees and potential customers at risk by simply being present at the store when one of these events happen. Not all thieves just focus on the inventory and will easily turn focus on the people there, especially customers that have the disposable income to purchase medium to higher end consumer goods like this. Then what happens when a customer is injured or worse during this sort of event? This is the result of a disconnected corporation that only sees the numbers and loss prevention stats but not the real world consequences of these actions. They need to understand the potential loss in inventory isn't the only thing they potentially have to loose, there is also the future negligence and wrongful death lawsuits because if this continues at this rate, someone will end up paying the consequences and I shudder to imagine the heartache that may bring to an innocent family.

    So Lululemon is reporting burglaries as shoplifting? That is insurance fraud. If their insurance companies knew if the crime rate of the location the rates would go up or the location may be considered uninsurable. The city data would show the accurate crime statistics for the area. Are the police complacent or active participants? The fired workers are whistleblowers.

    IMO The store is inviting theft with their own policy. They are also endangering their employees by putting them in stores that are obviously welcoming theft as many criminals do use weapons. Any crime should be reported to the police immediately. I think the firing of these two employees is outrageous. Passivism & not reporting after the fact are absolutely different things. No wonder they're so high priced they have to pay for all the merch they invited ppl to walk off with.

    • @ireneswackyjournals8810
      @ireneswackyjournals8810 Год назад +1

      Yes. And there is a liability to the company as well. Companies account for a percentage loss. This partially why they do annual audits on inventory. It’s a way to see if they align to their estimated loss. This is used in tax to reduce overhead since it’s a loss to them. If employers were to suddenly fight with criminals or try to stop them it could lead to an employee getting shot and they will not stay silent, a lawsuit will come from that and workers comp. This is a true loss to them. To balance this and reduce the loss that they did not account for they hire loss prevention. Those are the only ones that have more of an ability to stop crime and even then they have rules such as not stopping someone until they have left the store

    Though it makes sense to tell employees not to intervene DURING the robbery, it makes zero sense to me that this business (and apparently other retailers) FORBID ANY reporting of thefts to police once the report can be made safely. How are thieves going to be stopped if they're not reported? How will future thefts be deterred if no sentences are served? I don't understand why any one-time reporting of an actual crime that was witnessed should be considered "bothering" the police.
    I encountered this attitude in Portland, Oregon once when I called to report that my car window had been smashed and vehicle contents stolen, only to have the dispatcher actually raise her voice while reprimanding me for daring to suggest that an officer should be bothered by something so petty. She said she'd send me a form to fill out
    (... none arrived).
    I felt angrier about her response than about the crime itself, because I expect criminals to commit crimes, but was blown away by the response I got from the entity my taxes help support to "serve and protect" me!
    It also filled my drive to work with questions about why I bother working at all, since theft, for all practical purposes, apparently goes unpunished there. Ridiculous!!!
    Unless citizens vote to reprioritize laws & redistribute enforcement, then understaffing SHOULD be conspicuously evident to all voters
    vs
    being covered up through what's essentially a hidden agreement between retailers like LuLu Lemon and the police departments they've forbidden their employees to report crimes too.
    Isn't aiding and abetting criminals a crime in itself? Therefore, how is it legal to prevent employees who witness a crime from wanting to avoid aiding and abetting the criminals they witnessed?
    I thought that basic civil rights couldn't be signed away (Ex.: Exclusion clauses limiting where one can open a competing business after quitting are unenforceable, as are NDAs in many cases, Etc.).
    I hope we'll see more follow up on this, in greater detail ... including input from expert legal consultants (& hopefully these employees' law suit against this employer!).
