I started giving my girls their baths when they were quite young-2 months-in my bathroom. I gave them kisses, talked and sang to them, then told them to "shake, shake, shake" inside the closed shower curtain and let them jump out and shake a little more before I finished drying them off brushing them and opening the door to let them run around in my apt. I them took them for a walkie when they were dry- if the weather permitted-to the Petco nearby and they could pick out a treat and a toy to bring home for being a good girl.
My aunt had a border collie named Shayna.I loved that dog so! Every time I would go to my aunt's house, I would give her love. She was a beautiful dog.So sweet!
Not to mention, SUPER SMART! What other dog can herd cows and/or sheep, keep track of all of them, notice if one us missing and go to look for it, and know what to do-once trained-w/o it's owner's attention? My Tess (4 yrs.) detected that I has Diabetes before my dr. did. She also taught my Gypsy Rose Lee to let me know when my glucose was too high or low before she died at 16.2 yrs. Tess's grandson became a service dog to a young girl with CP and predicted her seizures as well on his own (Must be that keen nose of theirs).
Aww! Some dogs DON'T like getting groomed, but the more they have positive guidance, the more they will love and respect the process. Email us if you have questions! gonegrooming.com@gmail.com
Maybe try desensitizing as much as possible. Such as, when he is relaxed you can try and quickly touch his tail, or his paws so he gets used to it and slowly becomes more comfortable and calm. It can be a long process but if you do it fairly frequently then it can help a lot
I have a border collie myself and I've been hearing you shouldn't shave them, but than is it fine to make the hair somewhat shorter on the butt like you did? Because that would be really convenient since she always gets that wet and it matts super easily
You should never shave a double coated breed because that increases the chance of them getting a heat stroke by 200%. Trimming/shaping is fine but never shaving too much.
You are correct, shaving a double coated dog, is a big no no. #1 their coat may not grow back correctly for at least 3-6 months depending on their age. Best advice, is get them pro groomed. If money isn't there, I provided brushes in the description, and do that on a weekly basis if you aren't getting them professionally done. You create a bond with your dog.
I trim my border collie baby's butt fluff with a good pair of scissors or use my own hair scissors. I also have this awesome razors comb that helps to pick out the occasion mattes behind her ear 🤗 I do plan on taking her to a professional in the coming weeks
Bob on, I have grown up with Collies and never once have any of them needed a cut nails or fur. It is a well known that it ruins their coats a good brush once a week keeps a long or medium coat collie in perfect condition. Best dog breed on the planet :)
Personally I think a Border Collies' fur should never be trimmed. They have a very special type of double coat that keeps them warm in winter and cool them off in hot temperatures and are designed for being outdoors. I have a BC and would nt touch her fur, only a bath if she rolled in some dirt, otherwise just leave it. Don't fix what's already perfect.
Well my wife won't let the dogs stay outside & I'm SICK of the fur everywhere, so while my bc's fur is absolutely beautiful, I'm shaving him down with #1 guard ASAP
I have to have mine clipped. We moved from the uk to Ibiza and it would be cruel to keep all that coat on her. The mild winters are perfect for her. She doesn’t look clipped so all good.
As much as I love this, unfortunately, not everyone lives in the perfect conditions for these dogs. I know she's built for it but living in Florida with a collie that has hair as long and thick as hers I feel awful watching her pant for hours after being outside only a few minutes.
I have had border collies all my life, I have 5 now. In the U.K., where they originally come from and where they are still extremely popular, I’ve never seen these dogs groomed the way they are on these utube videos. It really is an American style and I have to say I hate it.
I agree- i am in the us and have a non-working BC, just got him groomed and even after I reminded them “no shaving” they clipped him all over, and SHAVED his belly (which had a gorgeous flowing graduated shape to it). I’m SO upset!
Our border collie is older. She is shed so much in 1 day we cannot live in our house well without her being grounded. We are very aware of how to coat But if you take her someone That knows that they can trim them in a way that it does not affect them adversely. In fact when our days are 96-98It would be Horrible do not get her trim med in the summer.
The coat has an cooling function which can be damaged when trimmed. It’s well documented. People Wanne help their dogs and that’s understandable but it’s a misunderstanding. But I don’t get why so many „professionals“ still do this. I quite honestly would sue!
Hi, i have 3 australian shepherd and i really want to groom them because im having troubled on their hair. Thanks to this video because i find the good clipper. The heiniger clipper that you are using is Saphir Dog Clippers? I found out that its only have one blade include on it no combs. The comb that use on it wahl attachment set (#3390-100)? Thanks
Ahhh, that was great, wish u had shown more. I have a Boarder Collie mix in Florida, it would be nice to see what u did. That pup likes you!! 🔥🐕🥰👏👏👏👏👏🥰❤️😁
I have a Border Collie /Chow mix. What blade(s) are you using? My dog's coat is similar in the rear and sides. I don't want a full cut, just a trim like you did. Suggestions?
I would refer to a groomer near you. Mixture of the breeds differentiate upon the hair cut due to the hair texture. Questions? Email us. Send us a couple pics! Gonegrooming.com@gmail.com
Do you have to train a dog from puppy hood to be this cooperative during grooming? I don't have a dog yet but was if this is a training process or do they just get used to getting groomed if you take them enough
Train them from puppies! Brush them, and (gently) handle their ears, paws, tail, etc so they are more accustomed to it. Border collies can be especially finicky about having their feet handled. And even a puppy needs grooming, whether by a professional or at home.
Beautiful job shaping those butt fluffies, Cassie! As a young pet groomer in training, this made me so happy to see. I just took on my first two Borders (a rough coat and a smooth coat) and wanted to get a feel for what I'd be doing for them in the future. Wonderfully insightful. Love your process and the relationship you have with Lip. She's a good girl and you're fantastic at what you do.

You are correct on terms =) E attachment, but I love shaping butts with a 10 or 30(I call it skimming.) ruclips.net/video/Oq_0ijAVoko/видео.html --thats the Aussie video where I shape it
I train and show Border Collies in Conformation and Agility. Please do not ever clipper the topcoat! The double-coat provides the main source of temperature regulation. It protects from cold and hot weather. I get why you trimmed the britches & tail (client request due to an annoying puppy), but never the topcoat! The only things that get trimmed on a BC are the ears, feet & shaping of the britches. In addition, do not EVER rotate a dog’s rear leg/hip assembly in the manner you do - YOU need to move and bend a little! You’re going to injure someone’s dog someday, if it hasn’t happened already. How about I move your upper leg to a 90 degree angle to your hip? Just because you CAN doesn’t mean you SHOULD. Dislocation waiting to happen.
She doesn’t look overweight at all. I breed BC’s, and she looks quite healthy to me. The coat after a bath gets quite floofy/airy and can make them look bigger, but even then, she doesn’t look to be an unhealthy weight to me. 🤷🏻♀️
Do you have to train a dog from puppy hood to be this cooperative during grooming? I don't have a dog yet but was if this is a training process or do they just get used to getting groomed if you take them enough
It definitely helps to get them used to being handled for grooming as a puppy! Some things I did with my dog as a puppy was getting her comfortable with me touching her paws at an early age
Some dogs hate, dislike, tolerate or love the grooming process from the get go, but the experiences they take from it will slightly change how they feel about it! (like any human being!) Its easier to get them used as a puppy, like Rebecca said above, but one can always try for older dogs. Mostly, get them used to the brush (brush at home), bathe them at home, touching their paws (not only the front ones) and petting them... all of this will get a dog used to grooming, most of the time. Its mostly getting them used to human contact!
This dog is clearly enjoying her grooming session. I really enjoyed watching you ‘perform’ your skills.
She looked so polished and pretty! Cleaning up "sanitary area" on any dog is a good thing to do I would think. It keeps them cleaner and less smelly.
Must be camera magic. That is the most calm, biddable collie I've ever seen! :)
Mine is the same ✌🏻 really calm at all times.

Their double coat help regulate body temperature both for hot weather and cold weather... I can't believe people are so ignorant.😢
Loved this grooming because it brough back memories of my grandmother's dog Lulu!👍👍👍
This dog is my dogs doppelgänger! I felt like I was watching my girl the entire time haha

My border collie scout , ran into the garden thinking I was going to groom him lol 😂

Trimming isnt the same as cutting… Trimming is getting rid of the long whispy extra hair thats growing on their butts, belly, paws etc

Should you cut before or after bath
Only a slight trim in certain areas after a bath and complete blow dry. Try not to cut too much. Pure bred don't need much off. Owners choice.

30 blade with E comb on top.

Thought you were supposed to comb out the dog first before getting the fur wet?
You literally gave no info
You gotta use your eye balls
rip butt floof.
Border Collies just need a bath and brush out. They don't need to be clipped. They're not Poodles.
It’s a big no no to use a blade on any collie, scissors only. Causes long term hair damage and matting gets worse
Not necessarily, to get larger amounts of hair off quickly then finish up with scissors is perfectly fine. Especially on a collie that moults
You trimmed the fur….very bad that can be very bad for your dog.
