I've always loved the tones Keith chooses that evoke such different moods, especially on 'Til summer comes around', a great song I think we can all relate to when we had a first love.
One of the best guitar tech interviews I've seen. I admire that guy's ability to talk about the rig in a way that guitar 'techies' can appreciate, while still not seeming to ramble on about things nobody else cares about. Great interview here and the earlier one. Also, Jason did a great job of asking good questions without seeming to be awkward.
Great Rundown. As fantastic of an artist as Keith is, he can play through all the amps and pedals in the world if that is what inspires him to make the great music he makes and helps him with his awesome guitar skills. He is one of the best in the world and extremely humble for having so much talent. Play on Jimi and GOD bless. Thanks
I like that chord progression being played - it sounds chunky/funky bro! As the guy says, if you have the means you can throw everything at the production and obtain a fabulous sound.
People are so full of Sh*t! John Mayer is a natural. Great tone and can play circles around most. Plays from the heart. He and Keith Urban obviously share a mutual respect for each others talent.
they did and it's still clickbait cos it's not even a Keith Urban rig rundown, it's another chris miller rig rundown but i do want a rig rundown of Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt
If anybody is wondering the Suhr pedal is a Koko Bost. It's a two stage mid and overdrive boost that is awesome! That Wample ego compressor doesn't suck either check em' out! And no i didn't get paid to say that
I never understood using pedals that sound like a certain amp and then they have that amp in the rig. Why not just use the Marshall if you want the Marshall sound? Keith is a great player and would sound great through a 1/4 of that rig.
Great gear rundown plenty of gear info for us tone junkies without getting to techical! And yes the John Mayer gear rundown could have been done better, there was not enough info from guitar tech Rene' Martinez or the interviewer.
I take it that's a Suhr 'Handwired Series' head at 9:45? If so, what model is it? The SH100? The black control knobs makes me think it's an SH rather than a SL68 but I could be wrong.
I really like this series and I wish there were more of them. But for some reason, when they get to the part about signal chains and all the pedals they use and the head chasers; and the processors etc, I just get totally lost :p My guitar, my Egnator Rebel20, and a compressor, and that's about it for me :p
@phriend2spin Ha. I suppose. I would just be anxious to see if Keith can even it run it himself? The tech does not really seem "techy" either but he obviously must know his stuff.
@pipsqueek14 opinions are sacred, and i must respect yours even if i disagree. that being said, just for a little comparison, what's cheesier "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" or "You'll Think Of Me"? "Heartbreak Warfare" or "Sweet Thing"? i'm not asking to think like me, but just to be objective :-)
@okamasphere well it basically is theirs. They take care of it all the time. They also handle the gear just as much, if not moreso, than the artist, And there's times where the tech will purchase three or four guitars and give the artist their pick of them. Don't be a snob. The techs are just as important as the artist on the road.
if yall like compressors you should try a mirage compressor from fxengineering. most people leave them on all the time. I guarantee you it would never come off your rack.
For YOU it is the best ever made. I prefer the Small Clone. My lead player swears by MXR.... something... Just because Keith doesn't really use his does not make it wrong
@kevlar1818 Did you notice that Renee wasn't very informative.. I'd say Chris Miller is a better tech. He knows way more in my opinion and is top guy! I've met him at one of Keiths shows and asked if I could see the guitars, he said yes and also gave me a few picks afterwards, I highly doubt Renee would do that. Another thing.. Did you notice how Renee was talking to Rebecca as if she didn't know ANYTHING about guitars?? I'd say he's somewhat up himself.. and Im a fan of both Keith and John..
maybe because john mayer has 40 guitars on stage...? just sayin....and don't think wrong about me i like keith urban's music he's great both of theme are great ;)
Latency is only a thing with highly processed digital stuff, where the signal is being converted from analog to digital, processed and back again...even then its not an issue. Most if not all of this stuff is analog. So nothing to worry about.
@pipsqueek14 wait wait wait...i think mayer is an egocentric jerk too, but i was discussing him and urban's guitar playin' and songwriting results. like i said in the first comment "meyer overrated = true" but we must admit his guitar playing is bluesy good and full of taste and feeling...if he only would concentrate more on being an artist than a celebitchy star :-D

Update....I apologize...I got further into the video and the tech did a VERY good job going over the pedals. The camera guy......keep practicing.
Chris seems like a cool guy, willing to go through some of the gear! Nice video.
He's actually using our Ego Compressor nowadays
Your pedals are great
I like that chord progression being played - it sounds chunky/funky bro! As the guy says, if you have the means you can throw everything at the production and obtain a fabulous sound.

that is a great tone, Keith is a monster player and has a monster tone.
All the same, a solid rundown. You can tell he he loves his job..
Keith has a great ear for the exact sound he wants for each song.
i LOVE these rig rundown vids
i love this rig actually so well done and versatile
@jemstringerWe are omnly complaining about the John Mayer because all the others from Premiere Guitar have been stellar and set such a high standard!
True "guitar rig". Keith's guitars and the techs rig haha. So much gear and it sounds so good!
Awesome rig rundown, what a great guy!
DO AN UPDATED VERSION!
they did and it's still clickbait cos it's not even a Keith Urban rig rundown, it's another chris miller rig rundown
but i do want a rig rundown of Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt
"A fan will turn your day around!" YEAH BUDDY!
Keith Urban amd Wampler Pedals!I can't wait to see what's next from those guys Wampler Rulz!
If anybody is wondering the Suhr pedal is a Koko Bost. It's a two stage mid and overdrive boost that is awesome! That Wample ego compressor doesn't suck either check em' out! And no i didn't get paid to say that
Awful camera work on this video. The camera is rarely looking at the label of the item the tech is talking about.
Great Rig Rundown Shaddy
that is some serious gear
That intro was epic
I never understood using pedals that sound like a certain amp and then they have that amp in the rig. Why not just use the Marshall if you want the Marshall sound? Keith is a great player and would sound great through a 1/4 of that rig.
Mannn I just wanna see the part with the ce2
Great gear rundown plenty of gear info for us tone junkies without getting to techical! And yes the John Mayer gear rundown could have been done better, there was not enough info from guitar tech Rene' Martinez or the interviewer.
Wampler certainly has an outstanding name for quality tone.
So Keith is using compression on his overdrive tones as well as clean?
All guys at that level do! They are called guitar techs, best job in the world I suppose!
I miss mine. I would turn all the controls down and it made my strat very Knopfler 'esque
Don't you think it's just because John Mayers tech says less than Keiths? Can't imagine Premierguitar has a timelimit for Rig Rundowns.
"Nobody Feelin' No Pain" by Jake Owen.
Now that's flash, he's got someone to control his effects for him.
I take it that's a Suhr 'Handwired Series' head at 9:45? If so, what model is it? The SH100? The black control knobs makes me think it's an SH rather than a SL68 but I could be wrong.

My guitar, my Egnator Rebel20, and a compressor, and that's about it for me :p
"Is there a bad flavor of ice cream? No".
Haha
Awesome!!
I have seen Keith use an Apache amp by Tommy aguilar from la.thats the best amp he’s got.
I love th backing track...
@phriend2spin Ha. I suppose. I would just be anxious to see if Keith can even it run it himself? The tech does not really seem "techy" either but he obviously must know his stuff.
OMG Its magnanimous Jason Shadrick....Although I'd much rather watch Bollinger I guess this is status quo...3:30 + and not a question?
I was hoping Chris would have yelled over, "Keith, give it a rest already! We're trying to have an interview over here. Jeebus, man".
@pipsqueek14 opinions are sacred, and i must respect yours even if i disagree. that being said, just for a little comparison, what's cheesier "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" or "You'll Think Of Me"? What is the name/model of the gold colored rack unit that he is managing the amps with?
Thanks
@okamasphere well it basically is theirs. They take care of it all the time. Thanks for the tip -I'll check one out
Its made by Radial not sure whatthe make is should be on their website
"not using" that boss ce2?! thats the best sounding chorus pedal ever made! lol
who uses chorus anymore
For YOU it is the best ever made. I prefer the Small Clone. My lead player swears by MXR.... something...
Just because Keith doesn't really use his does not make it wrong
Doesn't hurt that he's friends with JM too. Nothing wrong with a little inspiration.
Can someone please tell me, what flood he keeps talking about? :)
Does any one knows the name of the song that they are soundchecking?
Cameraman focus ain't that hard.
Train that cameraperson....FFS. They're representing a professional publication
It's the Radial JX44.
Could be a buffer. Could be a modded Boss too.
Whats the name of the song that starts at 5:10??
@kevlar1818 Did you notice that Renee wasn't very informative.. I'd say Chris Miller is a better tech. He knows way more in my opinion and is top guy! and Im a fan of both Keith and John..
2:55 can anyone tell me what label maker makes those black labels?
Looks like a standard thermal transfer-type tape label. Just have to buy the right tape cartridge with the white on black tape.
maybe because john mayer has 40 guitars on stage...? just sayin....and don't think wrong about me i like keith urban's music he's great both of theme are great ;)
the riff he plays att 0:30. whats the song called?
It looks to me like you never got an answer. The song is "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me".
because its midi switch controlled problems are very easy to isolate
can somoene tell me what song he's playing in the begining
That is an unbelievably complex setup. It must be a nightmare when things go wrong.
@Lpendes in me saying that. You can't expect a long video from a tech who doesn't want to talk about the gear for long..
@TantricConvulsions
@okamasphere
I will turn this thread around right now! :)
what's the first song!!?
Dude someone you takes ownership of the equipment takes pride in it also . He would not be working at this level if he wasn't a great tech .
The Boss CS-2 is the best compressor out there. The CS-3 is absolutely horrible though.
Rebecca is great.
@pipsqueek14 if you call someone else's music shitty, saying "that's just my opinion" doesn't cancel out your insulting comment
wat song is that in the beginign??
With that huge of a signal chain how does he not get latency?
Latency is only a thing with highly processed digital stuff, where the signal is being converted from analog to digital, processed and back again...even then its not an issue. Most if not all of this stuff is analog. So nothing to worry about.
Also, everything is in loops so it isn't strung together in series.
@kevlar1818 maybe they just had more time?
As he says in the video. Keith changes his gear very often, like every 3 weeks... so i wouldn't say that.
@Realfi yes, i do as well :)
love the information and all the detail, but HATE the camera work. please get this man some camera training!
yep
@AndreMelges "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me"
What pedal is at 5:20?
Nice doco
intro song??
Anyone know what song he's playing in beginning warm up when he goes to drop d tuning? Sounds so good!
Who wouldnt wanna be me is the song
@@isaaclavigne7905 thanks so much for the reply! Don't know much about his music, but I'm definitely interested
is there a wrong icecream flavor? No, hahah. The guy has never tried smurf icecream.
Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me
What a sod. The Ken of music
Klon Centaur.
@21guitarworld Wampler compressor!
@kevlar1818 i love both John and Keith but i like Keith's playing better :)
He obviously likes the clicking noise of the treshold...
I wanna Suhr KoKo boost!
@bigrock007 I wanna put you in a song
Yep That's some REAL COUNTRY music right THAR!!!
George Jones & Haggard ,forgive them!!!:(
i hate country, but i like this guy
Wow! Maybe some of overkill going on?
U are right...gets my vote for worst camerawork ever....anywhere.
WTF are there any rock musicians who haven't had a studio flood?!
Who wouldn't wanna be me... Not put you in a song:)
MEANTIME JEF BECK JUST PLUGS AND PLAYS WITH KILLER TONE WITH NONE OF ALL THE STUFF......LOL
His tech talked less I guess ;)
