A little anger and a lot of profanity about Amal carbs. It’s because how they work, or don’t

Lots of good info but I think you misspoke on the air screw... turning out the screw will make it leaner, turning it in makes it richer. Which is weird because I was always told if the screw is on the front side of the carb it meters fuel and if it's on the back air filter side it meters air.
I love the Amal concentrics... they're easy to deal with. My only complaint about these carbs is getting that damn spring compressed between my fingers while holding enough cable to get it into the slide. That can be a real pain in the butt. And nobody sells a simple device to help with that. Also, the threads on the back side of the new Amal's have changed.. most of the screw-on items I have (like air filters or adapter rings) don't screw nicely onto my new Amal premiers. Jay at Vintage Triumph Supply told me Amal changed the threads on the new carbs. If that's true, why aren't the adapters and air filter threads changed to fit the new carbs? And why isn't anyone else mentioning this. I ordered 3 different adapter rings thinking I was getting the wrong one. I finally called Vintage Triumph Supply to ask why none of them fit right and he told me about the thread change.

Lots of useful info, but one small correction - the pilot adjuster screw controls the air flow, not the fuel, so screwing it in makes the mixture richer, and out makes it leaner.

Good carbs...easy to work on....designed 80 years ago... nothing "stupid" about them.... cheap to buy too.

I dunno about the Mk1s, but people ditch the enrichers on the Mk2s cus the bore for the plunger wears and the rubber deteriorates and you end up with shitty leaky enrichers. Sometimes new plungers or rubber will fix it, other times the bore the plunger sits in wears and allows air leaks.

What about adjusting float hight, no vids out there on this one. Mines came with a shitty hight.
