This movie was far better at giving exposition than it’s sequels . There is interesting visuals, a good soundtrack, a great performance by fishburne and a great script. The matrix is high concept science fiction and could easily be boring but this movie was very well made

To give you a hint: there is this other famous scene in which Neo goes to see the Oracle and sees the group of gifted kids with one of them bending a spoon with his mind. Neo asks him how he does that and he explains that "there is no spoon"...
All humans potentially have the ability to desolidify, for want of a better word. As galactic densities intersect we will all find things becoming more or less solid. Take the twins from 2, and see what Morpheus actually meant by not having to.
the bullets aren't real sure. But how would this apply to the real world. Try and dodge a bullet here and lets see if you "win".
More and more, this movie foreshadowed the world we are living in. Right now I do believe I'm in the matrix, just not the idea of machines taking over but the bottom line is the same.

They're definitely gonna be better than 2 and 3. It's written by the same team that wrote the Sense8 finale and the crew and cast are great. Also, I'm sure Lana Wachowski has learned a lot from Reloaded, Revolutions and everything she has done since.

No matter how much they try destroy the original message the message still remains THE SAME!
The Matrix was finished after one movie. The system was surprised by its popularity so released the sequels in order to dilute the message. The sequels are good action movies but they add nothing substantial to the lore. I have 4 but haven't watched it yet. In the end times we are living, I expect 4 is a direct attack on the premise of the original if nothing else.

This is the best explanation of the "world system" I have ever heard.
I just discovered the inspiration behind Morpheus’s look! He got it from the actor Sathyaraj in 1984’s “Noorvathu Naal”. Sathyaraj was an infamous villain character in Kollywood cinema. Please look up this character of his in this movie and tell me it’s not a direct influence to Morpheus’s sunglasses and shaven head!

The Matrix is not a movie. It is a documentary. It depends on you, if you realize what you see and if you see what is real. Now you see it, now you don't. Ugly, hard to accept facts, hidden in a nice beautiful envelope. You have to fight against the Matrix, but first you gotta wake up. And then see.
What is really being said here, and what you suddenly realize what you are, and what you do in "The system"
This scene is just vague enough for people to project their thoughts on "the system" to be about anything. But if we're being real here, it's designed to be a metaphor for modern capitalism.
I remember my economics teacher in high school said that the Matrix was an allegory for communism and Morpheus, Neo, Trinity, Zion were all trying to break free from it to topple communism. Haha.

But when Morpheus says "these people are still part of the system and that makes them our enemy" then the camera motions to a police officer. And then Morpheus says "these people are not ready to be unplugged". I think that's a direct reference to Marxist theory stuff like class warfare and the idea of false consciousness.

Dude, this scene alone deserves a billion views. It explains in such a clear way the modern day selfishness, ignorance, obnoxiousness of the masses, The Matrix should be studied and analyzed in all psychology/philosophy courses worldwide for how eloquently it delivers its messages. Some 25 years later and couldnt be more relevant to current day life!
