This is why i love the mini community. Everyone one is willing to help each other with experience. Tips. Mistakes and positive feedback. The shell is looking good. Always nice to see new panels going in

DB, I was keen for Amir to do most of the work on his own as i will be doing less time in the garage as i get older
and sleeper in the afternoons lol. Considering the front bulkhead was out of alignment he has done a great job, Cheers Dave.

Thanks Dave for mentioning the various details on the jigs. Sorry for my ignorance. My name is Brian and I am now an aged pensioner. I did my apprenticeship as a mechanic in the Aussie bush and then moved into earthmoving and mine maintenance mobile equipment and fabrication workshops throughout Asia and later back here in Western Australia from 2004. I retired after 50 yrs in the field, due to chronic arthritis and a fight (which I have won at present), with that dreaded C word. A mini nut in the past, I am an avid follower of metal shaping and all things automotive that are hand built. Love motor sport on 3 & 4 wheels and am currently restoring a couple of Western Australian dirt track speedway Formula 500 race cars, which are motorcycle engine powered. My minute of achievement, was building a McGee fuel injected Suzuki RG500 and running it on methanol and was a very rapid little jigger. I admire and respect anyone who, like me, work on a very tiny and extremely limited budget, but love to build things with the best of their ability, simply for the fun of doing so. Even when the end results are not always as expected, they have at least done it and by their own hands..

Brian, I did guess your name right lol. I lived in Adelaide for about 12 years before coming back to Europe, I am the same as you and love making tools to use & help in the workshop just buiding things generally! Cheers Dave.

Haa haa, small world.. I was born in Adelaide and grew up in Yunta and Mannahill on the Broken Hill Road. Raced TQ's and F500's in SA and a few trips to Victoria. Always been a car nut .. love to be able to restore a road car one day, but until then, looking at what you guys do, makes me feel good. My mate runs an E type 2+2 and is often at my place .. he has a couple of 3.4 Mk II's in his shed waiting to restore and a good friend of mine is Colin Bonney, who runs his own Classic Restoration shop here in WA and considered one of Australia's best men with MG's..

Brain, I was up at Gawler and worked in Mooba with Santos it is a small world, I would love to see a video of his place if you can get some video, Cheers Dave.

Will see what I can find. My ex brother in law worked at one of the Moomba sites cant remember the name but something Corner , springs a memory. It was not the main camp where I spent an additional couple of days waiting for the flight back to Parafield. SANTOS was going up for sale recently. When I was with ISAS we had some International Harvester Loaders which did the rig service, as fork lifts, for OD &E at the Rig 3 & 4 site at Cultha Piri. They were using an Ideco 300 ton shorty rig at the site and I spent a week up there doing the delivery and maintenance services on both the IH machines. Went up rig3 and spent some time watching them pull rids. The crew was breaking in a new hand as the derrick man and I tell you, after watching him at work 180 ft above the rotary table, I decided there and then, oil rigs were not for me... There are some good clips on RUclips . Search Santos Moomba Basin Gas field. I also went up to the Hides Gas Field in PNG to look at a job just after Richter Drilling pulled out. Bad site and a lot of local problems with the indigenous tribes. Having spent almost 14 yrs in PNG, didn't see a future there.

Dave, a jig like what you used on the e type would be ideal. Something with 2 rails under the floor that can be interchanged to fit on the top side too would be the way forward and keep the shell true

Excellent points again Dave... I have taken on board the strengthening the shell as you will see in my next video. I am sending you a video about some advice I need about measurements pal.
    Thanks

Thanks for these videos it is really valuable and helpful to hear your experience in some depth and how you can resolve these things. There are a few additional attachment points around the cabin like the seat mountings, handbrake and gear shift mountings, door mountings. Also maybe it is handy to take datum measurements I think I saw a video somewhere with a guy using what looks like a big compass I guess you could also use a laser level. I saw there is also some info in the manual about subframe and geometry but I have never heard or seen anyone using it so far. A triangular profile would be strong and stiff or a tube with a triangular profile inside

Adam, Thanks, I did a video on the subframe geometry so time ago on my Mini, I will try and find it and let you know! As you say there are quite a few strong points in a mini shell you could anchor braces from, Cheers dave.
