- North of Cape Cod, one of the first saltwater fishing opportunities of the seasons is the haddock. These silvery groundfish move into shallow water (well, relatively shallow) to feed in the spring, providing anglers with the chance to restock their freezers with some delicious fillets.
In this episode, Jimmy and Chris leave from Plymouth, Massachusetts on a glass-calm day in early May to fish clams and jigs for haddock.

Just a couple months until haddock trips start up again. I've already made plans to go out over the Memorial Day weekend on the Capt John boats.
Love these local video's. Can't wait for the season!
I love you guys video. I love to to hear your fishing voices. You guys are top tier ocean fisherman. You the best in the world. Your next stop is TV.
love haddock
Love this content! I dont even haddock fish but the vid quality is on point. Something relaxing about these vids 👌
Those bucktail teasers are the ticket! Seems like they add a finesse element to the presentation. I’ll have to try some this coming season
I don't think any of the haddock hit the actual jig - the teaser was key!
At the end of the day, when the bite slowed, we were even tipping the teasers with clams, at which point, you're better off just going to a high-low rig.
@@OnTheWaterMedia what color teasers did you use? Pink is my fav in the spring for haddock
On that day, we used pink and chartreuse.
Chomping at the bit, I've got my 4/1 reservations on Eastmans.
Yeah, even here in RI waters in the winter season, it's a federal whale migration zone. All vessels over 65 feet are required to slow to 10 knots. It's not mandatory for vessels smaller than that, but recommended.
Poor Jim always tangled up lol
Great content ! I was looking for a low profile reel for slow pitching and will go with the Penn fathom after watching your video. You think the 200 high speed or 300 high speed is better?
Hi guys, great video! Can you throw out some names of places to try or coordinates?
We send out a fishing forecast each week that details the fishing in each area of the northeast. Once the haddock season opens again (April 1st) we'll be updating it with information on the haddock season. You can sign up here: www.onthewater.com/fishing-reports
Great video thank you. Surprised neither of you are wearing life jackets/buoyancy aids, even though go conditions are very calm?
I see that you are bleeding them like bluefish. If you do not do that, does that affect the flavor?
What kind of fish Jimmy Fee caught at the 21:21 minute mark was that?
That was an Ocean Pout. Eel-like body and big giant lips!
Thank you for letting me know.
would hate all those other boats around
Anyone know if there is haddock or cod in RI?
The haddock have shown up off block occasionally but not usually and theres always cod in rhode island
Cod season in RI runs September through April, 22-28", bag limit 5. I've personally never seen haddock caught in RI waters, but regulations are similar to Mass. 17", no bag limit.
@@joshuariddensdale2126 i cant remember when exactly but i remember one year just before world war covid a buncha chunky haddock showed up out by the windmills. Some of the party boats got in on it. I wanna say '19
@@tonynicoletti8161 way south of Block?
The headboats run cod trips all winter and find good success fishing off Block Island.
