My finance and I met Brian at the TD garden in 2023 against the magic, before the game he was walking around the court talking to fans and taking pictures, he signed a hat for me and was so nice. I’ll never forget how nice of a guy he is when he doesn’t have to even take the time
@@jlui21 it was more he became a punchline for a while and people acted like he didn’t deserve to be in the league. There’s a reason a guy plays that long
Love hearing Sheed talking about his Boston days, Scal was always hysterical & a wonderful guy that any team needs. Great personality that I’ve never heard one person say a negative thing about.
This is great advice, and it goes waaaaay beyond sports teams. I've seen a lot of guys, from IT techs to lawyers and beyond, who almost certainly were kept around in significant part because they were more or less universally beloved by their colleagues and their presence helped make the workplace more pleasant/bearable for everyone else. Personality is absolutely a tool, and if you have a plus one, it can cover some deficiencies in other areas.
Dude , do u even know how strong tall and mean Olajuwon is ?? U never seen him in 80s he fought anyone. Lately when he found religion in mid 90s was little nicer. Believe me when he speaks in locker room, Kenny and Max or Horry cant do anything.
Everyone knew Hakeem was the best player on the team. Doesn’t mean he was the locker room leader. Sometimes guys like Sam Cassel and Kenny are that. Takes absolutely nothing away from the Dream.
@@derekminnich7688 dude U never saw Hakeem in life. Do u even know how he was in 80s ? U heard few nice stories bout 90s Dream and u think thats it. No one dare to speak to 7 foot guy. Only Wilt Chamberlain can deal with him.
Ayo, Scalabrine at SC was one of the best college careers. Took em deep into the tournament for a couple years. Good sense of humor interviews. Everybody says this about Scal. He seems like a great guy to be around. This shows that being a good person CAN pay off. Being better than most of the world in basketball helps also. Ps. Asking Mad Max about what school Kenny went 😂
People forget that NBA teams practice and most likely guys 10-15 are practice warriors that make the team better and more cohesive regardless of in game production. See Scal ML Carr, Herb Williams etc
Sheed was an absolute stud on that Pistons team. It’s refreshing to see him be so humble about other players. Sheed was a better player Brian hands down. But It’s amazing to see him talk so humbly & admiring someone like Brian.
It's not just the NBA. Good locker room guys stick around and get paid in every single industry and company. There aren't nearly enough of them to go around.
I like the point Sheed made at the beginning of the video, on what they look for in players today. Don't think there weren't slim athletic bigs who had the same skillset back then, they just couldn't stay on the court. Due to the style of play those guys would have gotten demolished in the post. Post defense is no longer valued because post play is virtually nonexistent
I remember in the late 80's there were a couple of 7 footers who were thin as a rail and took jump shots. Of course they were tossed around in the post by the Ewings and Olajawans. And they were critcized for being forwards. Now they'd be stretch centers. Alonzo Mourning was a jump shooter in college until Thomson said he wasn't getting paid in the NBA unless he played in the post. Then there was Dave Cowens who was a jump shooting 6'9" center in the 70's - and won two titles. Wes Unseld admitted he was 6'6" and was a center too. And there were a lot of 7 foot centers to guard against. Of course centers didn't really bulk up until the late 80's and 90's. Look at Kareem or Walton and they were built more like Giannis than Shaq.
Scalabrine punished some high ranked street ballers in Joe vs Pros. Maybe he just needed a little more selfishness to be a bigger talent and secure more bags.
Rasheed , I love you, man . But, do me a favour, don't mess with the orange - white mamba from Cali and USC. He will, mess you up from the 3 point shot.😂😂😂😅😢 No , joke asides, he Skal looks like a cool, laid back , likeabili guy. He has set up himself quite nicely , as TV host, for the Celts and the Big Three tournament, so props to him. Nice guy 🎉
Charles Barkley asked Kenny Smith who was that locker room leader you didn't expect.. Kenny answered me, and Shaq and Barkley just roasted him 😂 Olajuwon tell you to go get him a bottle of water 😂😂😂
McNamara paradox if it can’t be measured it doesn’t exist. That’s the problem with work in general because you can’t measure a locker room guy’s contribution it has no value in todays corporate America
Editor for the channel should put Vernon Maxwell's name in the description for young heads who don't know, or medium old heads who didn't know him like that like me lol All these podcasts with NBA guests love to clip their podcasts but never put the names of the guests on the clip descriptions, kinda lame and lazy. its a copy and pasted description after the first line
And you have to be good enough to push the starters in practice and not have an ego about your playing time. Those guys on the end of the benches earn their money.

Also, f that. Sick and tired , everybody having dump on Kenny Smith. What's wrong to being a nice guy. Good for Vernon Maxwell to saying praise for the original Jet. I am seeing, in Inside the NBA, Shaq , Chuck and even Earnie having fun with Kenny. And that isn't right. He was a great player. And as Max says he is a glue guy. I know Kenny is a multimillionaire and has a 1000 times better life than me, but i am again , like i said, sick and tired that almost everyone using him like a doormat.
they all bust each others balls on that show. They're having fun. Barkely and Shaq are all time greats, Smith while a good player isn't an all time great like them. Smith and Shaq do the same thing giving Charles shit for not having a ring.
There’s no need for a locker room veteran anymore. A lot of them are being picked up as assistant coaches. It’s a waste of a roster spot to have a veteran guy who is not serviceable. Teams have figured this out. Instead of giving a spot on the bench to such a player, recruit one to the coaching staff instead.
not really true. each teams has guys who barely play and never play minutes that actually matter. But players make so much money now very few guys stick around long enough to take on that role at the end.
@@tommyfu9271 That’s why I said that teams have figured this out. It’s a business decision. Sign a good locker room guy to a roster spot or hire that same player to the coaching staff? The latter. Only the Vince Carters and CP3s get signed on for said spot and actually play (I.e., serviceable).
@@ThatBoyPause i think it's more guys don't really want that role anymore for the most part. It's not that teams think the 12th guy on the bench is a valueable spot. even 20 years ago players made so much less than they do today.these days someone even halfway decent is gonna make 100 million dollars before they get to the age they would be a veteran leader who barely plays. How many guys at that point really want to put in the work for that role when they could do a lot less work and be an assistant.
