I heard the story of Sun Man before and I have to say that I really love the spirit of it. "My kid wants this and no one is providing this, so I'll do it myself" What a cool Mom
Honestly so cool, the origins sun man was actually the first Origins Figure i ever saw and on the toy shelves in my native Denmark non the less, so glad to see what she made for her son getting a second wind, don't know if there'd be enough to fill the run time but it honestly could have made for a really sweet based on true events type of Movie
Unnecessary!! since there were many African-American characters in the Filmation series For example: Melaktha the archaeologist, an excellent character, very intelligent and scientific (appears in SIX episodes!!), Garn the gladiator!!, even CLAMP CHAMP!!!!! I think it was a very smart move on the part of the lady to do business by playing the "√ict¡m" So since I'm LATINO 100%, should I create a "character"???

I remember seeing these toys when i was kid. I begged and pleaded, however when I finally convinced my aunt to buy it. We went back to the store the didnt have anymore
It would totally be made out of crystal so to get all the sunlight possible. Or maybe instead his home would be constantly moving? Or it's a satellite or a city in the clouds?
Thanks for covering Sun Man! You've been my trusted source for MOTU and being a black man (49) and knowing the history, I knew you would do justice with a break down for the masses. I appreciate you broh and, keep up the GR8 work!
I absolutely love this story! I’m Native American and saw Bolt-Man recently from origins and wanted to research if he was actually Native American. And he is and the story is so wonderful :) I can’t wait to buy some Sun-Man figures!
Awesome... thank you for this story. I am so happy that Yla Eason is here to see the fruit of her labor re-generate for a brand new generation of collectors; thank you Mattle. @PixelDan.. Thank you for sharing this important story. And thank you for all you do. Thank you.
Sun Man has already started to show up at target stores. mine are still on pre order, i plan on keeping one in the package and one to open for review and display purpose. can't wait to get him
These really are some great figures. I can see why Mattel saw the potential for merging them into the MOTU line. Those original figures look great and its impressive how well the were constructed for being a start up toy company.
Already have Origins Sun-Man on pre-order, now I'm looking forward to Mattel bringing the other characters to the modern line. This was a great episode.
Fantastic video, Dan, thank you. I'm so pumped for Yla and am delighted to see her ongoing success. What an incredible woman. And props to Mattel for thinking big enough to take this step! A proper feel-good story.
I remember seeing Bolt Man as a kid, and regretting not having picked him up after realizing he was an Indigenous American character with the name Joe Red Eagle. I'm ecstatic that he may be forthcoming in the line now, because tracking down an original has been almost impossible/affordable for me. The line as a whole is pretty amazing.
We never had Sun Man in my area, and this is the first time I've ever heard of him, but he rubs me the right way! I really like him and think he's great and deserves to be part of the MOTU line. You see, I get kinda angry and resentful when these lazy "creators" just make black versions of already existing heroes. "Uh, Miles Morales...uh...he's black Spider-man!" No, Spider-man is Peter Parker. Sorry. "Um...Falcon isn't an original black hero anymore now he's black Captain America!" No, Steve Rogers is Captain America. Sam Wilson is the Falcon. Even with Kevin Smith's take, we got "Black King Grayskull." Sun Man, however, is his own original character. He's got his own name, his own origin, and his own costume! I love and respect that so much more, and I feel that minority fans deserve more characters like him, rather than getting stuck with white character hand-me-downs.
I imagine Sun-Man gliding on solar winds with his epic collar. He loses his power when the sky is cloudy but every time Pig-Head thinks that he finally prevailed suddenly a ray of light is tearing through the clouds and as the sky clears up Sun-Man is re-enabled to unchain his powers and the day is saved. That's what my imagination is making out of this character.
I love all of this - I showed Mattel's video with the kids being showed Sun-Man to my English 12 classes. It really fits right in with our Native Son unit and the types of themes we have to tackle as a class. I think this really helped to turn heads and create much more awareness to issues that were hidden in plain sight. Awesome piece and interview, Dan!
I originally had no interest in Sun-Man because I was not at all familiar with the character. But you've now convinced me I need one! I will buy him as soon as he shows up on the store shelves here in Canada!
Knowing now how it came to be I like the name sun man. Because it kinda comes full circle. This all started because of her son wanting something for him. So Sun man can also sound like Son man, a reflection of that superhero her son can now see himself as. That's the hero he sees himself as. Love it.
What a legend! I only heard about Sun-Man this year - I’m pretty sure we didn’t get him in the UK - and I’ve completely fallen in love with him and his story. What amazing things a mother’s love can accomplish. Just brilliant.
I absolutely love the origin of this toy line. Just a loving mom that saw her kid sad he felt he could be a hero he likef, and decided to provide something for that kid and potentially many others who could've felt that way too. I love that it's not like some stuffy corporate people just wanting to cash in so they're like just do he man but make em black. It actually came from a place of care, even if she didn't really know the market at first. If anything makes it more wholesome she had an idea and went for it.
I love all the toylines that were created on the periphery of MOTU, but this one is very special. It's not a cynical cash grab like Galaxy Warriors or Warrior Beasts. This was identifying a hole in pop culture and working to fill it. Such a great story.
What’s that line “necessity is the mother of invention”…I honestly thought this was just going to be an overview of the toys, it was such an awesome surprise to have this interview with Yla Eason included. Truly inspiring! 🙏🏼
This is a great story. The kid had a super cool mom who added some really cool characters to the MOTU universe. I just imagine the scene in Predator where Dutch and Dylan slap hands, only its He-man and Sun-man, right before they both kick the crap out of Pig-man.
There is no MotU Revelation line. There is Masterverse which started with MotU Revelation figures. It is now expanding to New Eternia, Princess of Power, HatMotU 21 and Rulers of the Sun. Masterverse Sun-Man was announced on March 17th on all official Masters of the Universe social media accounts besides many other Masterverse and Origins figures in the same week.
I'm so grateful for this video and your channel! I can't wait to collect this line and I hope Mattel goes on to make the full line and new characters as well! Diversity is BEAUTIFUL! Hasbro, get the Bronze Bombers line made!!!
The Mattel Creations figure is very nice in hand. The packaging looks good also. I will definitely keep that one mint on card. I love the certificate of Authenticity also. My retail versions are set to arrive tomorrow. One to open and play with, one to keep on the MOTU card.
I never encountered these as a kid and never bought them. BUT, I am doing that now! Love the inclusion of Rulers of the Sun. So cool to add new figures to the line and I love the backstory and truly respect and appreciate it.
I really want to see Sun-Man potentially have his own wing of the MOTU brand like He-Man and She-Ra. I hope we get more original characters and even vehicles. I want to see him also have a mount like Battle Cat, a love interest like Teela and a sidekick like Orko. We also need more villain and monster characters. I also wish that Blackstar and Bravestarr were able to join MOTU at some point.
Thankfully due to the courage of this woman we now have more figures like sun man. But hey He-Man is s bit brownish 😉....He was already ahead of his time. 😁 isn't that so cool. Amazing Story! In Brazil I already bought my sun Man and his enemy pig Head. Now Im waiting for digitino and Bolt Man. Thanks for the video. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Honestly I give her props for doing this but I have one problem with the original design. His wings in between his head & shoulders would not work. Other than that the figure is cool.
Here's what's crazy I saw a sun man in Atlanta as a kid in the early 90's never saw it in the state of Michigan we could not get our hands on those Sun man action figures And new all about them but to be honest it's time for a Masters of the Universe game Nintendo switch Xbox PlayStation should have been on this by now
The original has a cool expression with well-sculpted eyes...wonder why they changed it in Origins. Powerful story, great interview... will get mine asap. Thanks, Dan.
I enjoyed the video dan, and you covered more of this than the Spector creative youtube channel did, this sun man character was mentioned o night there, yet the guy who s5artyed that channel didn’t interview the woman who created this character like you did though👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯.

She seems like a nice lady as well. It’s cool to see Mattel giving her creations a second chance on toy shelves.
Absolutely agree - and Yla is an incredible person with charitable activities and youth employment programs to her name. She’s a true hero.

I remember seeing these toys when i was kid. I begged and pleaded, however when I finally convinced my aunt to buy it. We went back to the store the didnt have anymore
Would love to see Sun Man’s equivalent to Castle Grayskull some day, such a great line!
"Palace of the Sun", ..... but I guess that this sounds a bit too generic.
@@subraxas it sounds awesome! I was thinking Temple of the Sun but I like Palace of the Sun better.
@@warface4881 Yeah, both would do. 🙂❤
@@subraxas I think that sounds pretty cool. I’m picturing something like She-Ra’s Crystal Palace but in a shiny gold color

I'm going to get every Rulers Of The Sun origins figures. Had Sun Man as a kid and a few of his pals.
I absolutely love this story! I’m Native American and saw Bolt-Man recently from origins and wanted to research if he was actually Native American. And he is and the story is so wonderful :) I can’t wait to buy some Sun-Man figures!
It's a great range, Bolt-Man in particular. But one criticism it is human centric
I just saw this in target and I was like wow! I’m 43 and I want the toys. Never heard of sun man before today! Thank you!

I think that is why I loved action figures with full masks or helmets. It could be anyone under there.
I love that they've been folded in organically. They're actually cool characters. Bring in more cool characters
They need more villains. Maybe make all the villains half animal and half human?
My sun man target pre order finaly shipped . I like how colorful the figure is , can’t wait to get it. Especially that shield
These really are some great figures. I can see why Mattel saw the potential for merging them into the MOTU line. Those original figures look great and its impressive how well the were constructed for being a start up toy company.
Yup. They saw 💰💰💰
🤣
Olmec Toys made some really great toys all around. It's great to see that they're finally getting the mention they deserve as part of toy history.
There is a hero in everybody
Growing up I don't remember anything Sun-Man related here in Canada, but I'm sure excited to add these toys to my He-Man collection.
Already have Origins Sun-Man on pre-order, now I'm looking forward to Mattel bringing the other characters to the modern line. This was a great episode.

HE-man always help like the a universe that was open for head cannons and ocs so it's cool that someone actually did toys that fitted in with the rest
Idk how seamed turned into help lol
This woman is amazing! Thank you for featuring her.
Omg! This is so cool!!! Peace to her and peace to you Dan for the insight on this insightful video! 😃😃✨

Him and lollipop Pharaoh are probably the coolest looking of Subn-Man's buddies. I quite like Holographo's head, too.

the origin story for sun man should inspire movie makers today to actually CREATE new characters instead of race-swapping them!
Great video, Dan. Loved hearing her story.
I don't remember him as a kid, and I was really into toys. I did buy the new figures as I liked the story and design.

I saw them advertised in a Jet magazine mail away subscription during the 80’s..
