    Just a heads-up: I feel like folks are missing the part where I mention that this build is almost entirely _brand new,_ save the case: 0:19. No, Origin did NOT ship this system with an incompatible BIOS. The system that was originally in here was removed :-)

    • @WayStedYou
      @WayStedYou 2 года назад +22

      You would've 100% ripped into them if they had shipped a new build with wrong bios because that would mean zero testing before the sale.
      I thought it was fairly clearly a used case

      The amazon return policy for computer components and other "tech" products is - 30 days - not the 14 days that you incorrectly stated in this video. Amazon shows the - return window - date for each and every product on the amazon orders page, which eliminates any doubt about the 30 day return policy.

      You're right but does that take time,even in a large case,you have to be so careful with hands,every motion has to be controlled like a monk! You can very easily slip with a simple screwdriver and possibly damage something,and worse when the things flat on the table! The smaller case makes it difficult. Plus I suggest wearing a head light to see in the dark areas of any case🕯️😌

    BIOS flashback should really be a staple in all modern boards. recently just built a 5600g system myself and the A520 ITX board I got had it - i was prepared to swap CPU's as I had a system with a 3700x when i bought it, but BIOS flashback saved all that effort.
    Wasn't even an expensive board. It was $100 - which is cheap for ITX's.

    • @buddybleeyes
      @buddybleeyes 2 года назад +3

      Honestly, I've legit recommended bios flashback to all of my friends. It saved my ass when msi dragon Centre corrupted my bios when I accidentally clicked on the advanced updater (updates bios from inside dragon centre). Since then I think they've fixed it from auto downloading and installing, was still scary since I was my first proper pc build, and didn't realise what advanced update meant.

    Greg, a shout out and big thanks from the senior (age-wise) PC community: I have loved working with PC hardware (building, troubleshooting and upgrading) since the early 1990s. Like you, I prefer not to deal with software issues (though I have had to many times). Unlike you, I haven't been a gamer since 2d side scrollers were the thing, but I still appreciate gaming hardware for its complexity and innovation. Loving to solve hardware-related puzzles, I really appreciate this series and add my vote to keep it going. I really like it that you admit when you are not familiar with something or mess up as I have spent a lot of time doing trying to hide it when I have! I watch a lot of PC tech channels and appreciate the knowledge and skill of all of you "youngsters" and still learn a lot. I really haven't done much building since my (ancient) 4790K, so I depend on folks like you to help keep me up-to-date with current components that I, unfortunately, do not get to use. Thanks so much for doing these! I can't wait for more.

    This is why I typically recommend to first time builders to get boards with BIOS Flashback, especially with AMD systems, because of the need to upgrade to newer AGESA versions. It gives you a way to attempt to fix a bad flash.

    I have this board and flashed the 1.73 beta bios with my 3400G and it works fine. The bios chips on almost every B550 board is 256Mb (32MB) which is twice the size of prior generations of AM4 boards, so there is plenty of room for CPU support. I will test it with the 1.80 bios and 3400G when I get a chance.
    Thanks for the video!

    That was my first thought, BIOS. But If I had a 3300 laying around I would of tried that without thinking about it ending support and bricking the motherboard. I might of caught it with the BIOS descriptions but there would of been a change that I miss it. Thank you for the heads up in looking at all factors.

    Hello Greg!! I did exactly like you but for a friend. I built he’s pc and it did not boot and I did a research about his motherboard and it did not come out off box compatible! So I grabbed my r5 1600 at home dropped it in he’s pc and booted right up. We installed windows and used a usb flashdrive to flash to the newest bios update. Then when it had done the update we put the r5 5600g in his pc and it booted right up! Works perfect! So I learned some new stuff like flashing bios and updating stuff without youtube help!!

    Such an amazing series, I’m learning so much by watching. This episode had especially good info in relation to AM4 compatibility with older motherboards. I’ve been debating hard between intel or AMD for my next cpu, but I think now it will be intel. Just need to save up enough for a new motherboard capable of handling the newer intel chips as mine currently does not support newer intel chips unfortunately. Thanks Greg!

      Intel boards only ever support 2 series if chips...
      This cheap AM4 board supports a lot more.
      Most newer boards this is not a problem as they have bios flash and larger bios chips.

      @@warrenskeen9203 thanks for the information Warren. Makes sense since my 5 year old gaming pc’s motherboard won’t support any new intel chips. I’ve been limping it along with GPU, RAM and M.2 upgrades but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that I’ll need a new CPU soon. Sounds like I’ll have to make sure the motherboard has that flash feature, just in case. I had no idea such a feature existed so I’ll have to watch Greg’s video about them to see how they work.

    I'm happy to see this video bc I just bought the same motherboard and same apu and this is a build for my wife and I luckily upgrade from a 2600 to a 3600 cpu with a 5600xt during this shortage 😁

    This guys should be so thankful you did this. Last Christmas I got a ASUS TUF gaming board to go with my ryzen 9 5900X. The support from amd and asus was brutal, asus was useless said they could flash my BIOS all the did was send me a new board which didn’t fix anything. 2 months later I got a boot kit from AMD but not being able to use my Christmas gift was so frustrating.

    great tip is that pc part picker will actually let you know of motherboards and cpus that do this let alone other incompatibilities its why running your parts list through pc partpicker is an amazing rule of thumb
