Fun fact: the PCI bus was designed to be hot-pluggable, so that you can actually add or remove cards while the PC is still powered on!

I've been an electrician on the F-16 for 5 years and one of the first things I learned was always troubleshoot the simple problems first! A lot of people want to change out parts immediately that can take hours to replace. So you have a very efficient way of troubleshooting. I've done it a few times where I started with the most basic thing that can fix a power issue. When it doesn't work supervision will yell saying things like "I wasted time!" (Mind you usually like 15-30min) but when it does work I'm a life saver, because I saved us days worth of work. Never understood that mindset, Ill gladly start with the basics every time. Nothing worse of changing something out for a whole day to realize its not even the problem.

I have 3 HDMI ports on my monitor.
I thought perhaps an HDMI port went bad
But that was not the case either.
      I basically gave up.
So I took it to a upscale computer shop called brainiacs. He hooked it up to his monitor and everything worked.
He said he did not know why the issue occurred. So I got a new phone put everything back together and it works fine go figure.

In my best Roy from the IT Crowd voice, have you tried turning it off and on again? Sometimes it's the simplest solutions that work. In software support, it's amazing how many times rebooting fixed the issue.

I have had that exact same problem numerous times. In fact, I have actually found some rather decent systems thrown out in the garbage by people when all that had to be done was reset the BIOS or change the battery! Always do the simplest things first as you just may be pleasantly surprised as that's all that was needed.
PS: Love the van idea, Greg! 👍👍

I appreciate Greg's view on cards. What's the point of a review of a card nobody can buy.
What I don't get is the card makers. What do they care about a review. Sure most times a good review means more sales. Now they sell everything anyway. So even put them up for review? Surely every review card sent out is just one less sale. Ora am I missing something?

I like his stance too. I won’t watch the channels that do new builds or reviews it’s annoying and I don’t even need a new GPU I have a 2070 Super I got before.

I remember having trouble booting up to windows because of a weird date and time issue, resetting the CMOS didn't help, so I replaced the battery with a new one and Bam, everything was working just fine. Just something I wanted to share.

Who?! Who the heck actually discounts your process? Literally every single IT/Tech class I've ever been in, our golden rule when troubleshooting is "Check the simple solutions first!" Its so much better to replace and/or change a setting to save time, rather than trying a bunch of time consuming and roundabout ways to fix an issue (Or possibly not fixing it due to not checking the easy stuff afterwards) that could have been fixed in seconds! I 100% stand by your process, good advice and strong knowhow. Keep up the great content!

Hey Greg. I commend you on not reviewing GPUs that folks either can't get their hands on or can't purchase at retail. It takes a big RUclipsr to stand up for what seems right. I'd be in the same boat if I were you. BTW, love this and the PCDC series! 👍

Salazar, as usual great episode! Just a thought on receiving products in the van... Amazon lockers? I'm sure you already thought of it. USPS allows for deliveries to any PO Box in the US, so maybe a short term rental? Anyway, keep up the great work!

totally agreed that, Always start troubleshooting from very simple small stuff before going further, sometime it's just a simple problem got fixed in just few min.
some ppl just think they are experienced and too good at fixing, then judging other's way of doing stuff.
sometime you end up doing more work and wasted alot of time by swapping hardware to troubleshoot when all it takes just a simple fix

I like that you have a procedure that you follow. Too many people use the shotgun method for troubleshooting and It can add hours.

Greg your ethics on not reviewing cards people can't buy for mfg. samples is righteous. Thank you, dude. See it's this that keeps me subbed to your channel when I've dropped almost all other "performance" PC tech channels.

I think I know what the problem is. There is a problem with alot of x570 motherboards that when you insert multiple pci express cards like say a graphics card and a pci e SSD that the board will automatically switch to gen 4 mode. This will couse graphics cards that don't support it to black screen. To stop this from happening you have to clear CMOS and then manually set your pci e slots to gen 3. This is a known problem with a lot of x570 motherboards.
