This video has helped me tremendously! Thank you. Nervous would be a better word than negative but it’s come across to me as negative as well from family members. They are learning as time moves on. I’m down 65 lbs! I’m so proud of myself. My biggest worry is when I meet my goal is if I can stay there. But they’re scared if I meet my goal? I’m 5’6” I was 283 goal is 155. Not unrealistic. They push food and ask why I don’t eat more. They comment on why my clothes don’t fit. My shoe size went down. My face is to thin. What about all the extra skin I’ll have. You know your sister is a nurse. (Who’s killing herself in exercise and diet to try and maintain a “normal” size) the whole family are active food pushers. It’s exhausting. I’ll be 50 in September. It’s a big deal for me to have taken this leap to a better me. What’s wrong with people?

Hey Heather! I think first you should know they love you and are just struggling with watching you change your life for the better. It unsettles something in them that’s their own habit/issues and makes them realize that they CAN change too, but they may not want to. I’m proud of you too! Keep doing what you’re doing and when you reach your goal, know that you can stay there, should you choose to! Don’t worry about that! You’re already putting in the work!

I am sorry to hear that anyone would criticize your body. You are beautiful and strong! They don’t know what they are talking about. Boo to the haters! I am about 7 months out from VSG surgery and have lost about 66 pounds. I have about 15 to reach my goal. I do still see a heavy girl when I look in the mirror but I have been practicing positive self talk. Thank you for all you do! You are amazing and appreciated by us out here.

Thank you! Ya know, it used to take up a lot of room in my head when I received negative comments, but my growth flex is that I truly believe those statements are about the person saying them, not me. I put a lot of myself (and body) into the unknown internet, so it comes with the territory. I can share that here because I really do feel safe with you and my audience. I know we’re a like minded group supporting each other 🩷

I clicked on this to hear and learn your perspective. My best friends sister went through VSG years ago. Unfortunately she has been through some major health issues and my heart breaks for her but at the same time can’t help being concerned for her mindset now. We all tell ourselves so many things to cope and get by. Thank you so much.

This is so kind of you. I can’t imagine where her head is with additional complications. So many of my former students and clients have shared this struggle too. I’m thinking of her and how she finds the support she needs.

Love your curly hair!! Big fan! But that being said, adore your look on this video
Also, today's mantra - " the feelings of others are not your job." Thank you❤

Thank you for your kind words! I’m trying to hair oil at least once per week to make my hair healthier throughout the year. And yes, add that to the daily mantra list! I said it to my daughter yesterday too!

I used to be the type of person that would politely smile at a comment like that and make light of it so the rude person didn't feel awkward. No more! If you are going to say something rude, I'm going to let the awkwardness wash over you by saying something like, "it's odd that you feel comfortable enough to say that to me..." That reply works for just about any comment and needs no elaboration, should be delivered with no smile, and then I walk away unbothered while the other person is trying to figure out what just happened.

My father-in-law actually asked why I didn’t get liposuction when I got my bypass! He said, he thought I would have “taken advantage of the opportunity”, since they were going in anyway. Obviously, he does not understand (and is not willing to) about WLS, but I found this so hurtful.

WOW that’s a bold question! I am going to assume without knowing him that he meant this statement without malice, but his ignorance can still hurt. You’re absolutely entitled to your feelings, Michelle! All you can control is how you respond to them. 🩷

I want to know "why" is a person's body anybody else's business? I've gotten to the point of responding to judgemental comments with, "Check your plank before speaking of my speck. Thank you." I'm also learning that a lot of other people's judgements come from their own insecurity. I feel so bad for your story teller's experience, it was completely uncalled for.

PREACH, Amber! I don’t know why either, but it feels like everyone has their opinion and some are a little too comfy voicing them!

I think the "old" man was flirting with her. It was the mean girl in her head that said negative things about being fat. Maybe he thought she was hot, men usually think they are a catch. 20:40
