When you get the settings right for a particular fabric, make a little sample piece and write the setting numbers on it to save. The next time you are using a similar weight/type of fabric, you can sort through your samples to find a good place to start.
Tip for your waist band, take a small scrap of fabric and sew the two ends of elastic butted up against each other and to the fabric. It will create a smoother waistband.
such a great idea to go back to basic/daily wear clothes that we end up wearing more than others, recently got some stretchy fabric & I’m excited to see what I come up with😍
Yesss I was just thinking this. I have no thigh gap so hot summers + dresses = heat rash in very uncomfortable places :/ Definitely giving these shorts a try!
I really love this. I mean I'm addicted to thrifted transformations as well but this is a great addition, esp for those of us who can't go out thrifting very often due to disability.
loved this! I've been clothing myself since Jan this year, when I decided to ban myself from bying clothes and rather make all.of.them myself. t-shirts and leggings were already solidly in my repertuar, but the past 6 months have included lot's of learning with sewing braletters, no-wire bra's, underwear and skirts! excited to learn more about sewing a wardrobe and basics!!
April: you need to make a line girl!!! Omg I love this set! And thanks for the tip on the raglan sleeves like my dumbass would have sewn the shoulders first and then attach the sleeves 🤣🤣🤣. I swear your sleeve tutorials look so easy and it’s like you’re literally doing it in one minute or less lol. *sigh* now I am forced to go and buy fabric even though I don’t need any right now 🤷🏽♀️🤣
coolirpa I’m always amazed with your sleeves lol. I need more practice (can’t seem to get them to fit around my biceps well and the armholes is still tricky for me). I’m about to take a sleeve pattern and alter it to my size for a jacket I’m about to make. Want it to be puff sleeves so I hope I get it right lol
I make shorts from thrifted men’s t-shirts for my girls using a one piece pattern. Place the bottom hem of pattern on the bottom hem of T-shirt , and no need to hem the shorts!
You make me think designing my own clothes is possible with the right kind of guidance and necessary tools. 😊 Love this video. I’m huge about tunic tees. They always look nicer on me than most other tops.
Coolirpa has a video dedicated to recycling textiles. She also has a few videos that have projects that use very little fabric :) Like Jessie B said, Annika Victoria has a few videos too that I highly recommend watching! If you love smiling, I'd also suggest subscribing haha
I love that you're making everyday clothes too! As much as I totally loved your last video (I freaking loved it), I was like what occasions do you actually wear these?! I dont do anything fancy enough to wear such cute stuff lol
I love your tutorials. I am getting confident with my sewing machine and starting to experimenting making clothes from scratch. It's so hard! Your videos are very helpful and an excellent guide. Thank you!
I so regret it when i saw that sewing machine at a thrift shop and didn’t bought it or even ask for the price huhu my hands are itching to sew something
Ive only just started learning to sew and its crazy to me how simple it is to MAKE something that would otherwise cost $30+ ....this is amazing! I cAn’t wait to get confident enough to make CLOTHES whaatttt amazing
I remember when I started watching your videos a few years back and you were a small channel and now two million followers! That's awesome! It's great that you've grown so much and so well deserved
Love the outcome, love this video . Would love to make numerous basics simular to these .. These are such a good design n shape ... The ragland sleeves make the top extra special ❣
I really love your channel and that's the reason why I also create my channel because I love sewing and you inspired me every day .I hope I can improve my skills just like you and make other people pursue their dreams like me because you show as that nothing is impossible.
My tip for knowing how big to make the neck line is to measure around the neck hole on the shirt and multiple that by 0.85 which will give you the length you need to make the neck band. Works every time :) Hope that's helpful
Nicely done! Love this outfit--I think most people dress this way when not at work. I hope you will make more videos using knits for casual clothing--they are easy to fit on a wide range of body types. Love your videos!!!
✨Thank you for making these videos April! 🌼 You are the one who inspired me to start sewing about 3 years ago & it has been such beautiful & liberating experience for me 💜 I appreciate you sharing your wonderful talent and creativity with the world ~ it means so much✨🌎✨
You have really come a long way! Sorry, its been a while since I've watched your channel And the video quality is so good i love the animation and the talk over. Glad you upgraded from the floor and a serger and a really nice straight stitch machine multiple feet too! So proud of you!
I find that 80% reduction is a good start to fit neckbands to necklines. If too stretchy, perhaps more! But for cotton jersey that's fine in my opinion.
When copying a stretchy garment, make sure to test it's stretchyness compared to the new fabric you are using. Put a ruler on the garment/fabric, hold it down at the start of the ruler, then at the 10cm mark (or another easily calculable number) grab and stretch the fabric. If fabric that starts at 10cm stretches to 16cm, then the fabric has a 60% stretch, if it only stretches to 13cm, then it has 30% stretch, and so on. If both the old garment fabric and your new fabric have the same stretch, then the copy should fit the same, if the new fabric has more stretch it will be a more relaxed fit, if it has less stretch then the original then it will be tighter and might not fit at all if the stretch is needed. This applies to both horizontal and vertical stretch (test them both separately).
These type of shorts are my life safer when wearing skirts and dresses. Nothing worse than having the thighs rubbing together while sweating. And now I know how to make them! Thanks!
So I tried my hand at fixing sleeves for my bf because one of his shirts were gigantic on him. It wasn’t as bad as I thought but I was still super scared 😂. I think this type of shirt sleeve looks less intimidating for me though. 😁
Always wanted to grow my sewing skills, but haven't gotten a sewing machine yet. Please continue to do more basic clothes! I'm still watching your videos! Haha.
I love the fabric, the top is lovely, what would make it lovelier would be to topstitch around the neckline, to give it a more stable look. I love the stuff you create, your husband must be pretty well kitted out with clothes.
Great video, April! I love that you are gonna start making some casual clothes/lounge wear. It's coming into winter in here Australia, so I would love some new ideas for clothes I can curl up under a blanket in.
I love listening to your tutorials. April I want to thank you for these sewing videos..they have help me alot in my sewing too..and I can say that I'm truly inspired by your sewing techniques.
I think rule of thumb for the neckband is 15% shorter than the circumference of the neckline! I have used this for every stretchy shirt and dress that Ive made and never had a problem with it!
Hey, if the shirt you made is slipping off the shoulders, make a skinny strap with the same fabric and attach it at the collar from one shoulder to the other behind your neck. It'll keep the neck from opening up too wide and not alter the look you're going for. Nice job, BTW! I'm a fan of your work 😊
When you get the settings right for a particular fabric, make a little sample piece and write the setting numbers on it to save. The next time you are using a similar weight/type of fabric, you can sort through your samples to find a good place to start.
Wow great tip! Thank you
That is so smart! Thank you for that suggestion!
really cool idea!
Ive been doing this with my serger too im so glad to see you use a serger for a project its hard to find projects with them
Great tip! Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
i love this! maybe u could make a series where u make basics or clothes that are more for everyday wear? 😊
Yasss I plan on making this a new series! 💗
I would love that :)
Lmao this is my everyday wear😂
Yesss!!!
And for men too
Tip for your waist band, take a small scrap of fabric and sew the two ends of elastic butted up against each other and to the fabric. It will create a smoother waistband.
It’s like I’ve seen this and know this but I keep overlapping it cus of habit! Lol! Thanks for the reminder
I do wide hand stitch to hold both ends together then do a zigzag stitch.
such a great idea to go back to basic/daily wear clothes that we end up wearing more than others, recently got some stretchy fabric & I’m excited to see what I come up with😍
Yes!! I feel the same way. Have fun creating :)
coolirpa thank you 🤗
The short is just perfect also to put under a summer dress or a skirt !
so true!
Thank you for your videis
My girls are older adults and they still wear short soft capris under sundresses. I think it is a smart idea to start when girls are toddlers. .
Yay, something I can sew that will fit MY body type. Thank You . I see where I made my mistakes in late weeks shirts. Thank You again!
Yesss I was just thinking this. I have no thigh gap so hot summers + dresses = heat rash in very uncomfortable places :/ Definitely giving these shorts a try!
Would love to see a series on under wear i.e. different kinds of bras, panties, socks, etc
YES PLEASE! HIGH RISE UNDIESSS
ThatsOckwrd I second this. I can never find good high waisted underwear that aren’t super overpriced. And don’t get me started on bras.
Oh my goodness yess, bralets 😍
Bralettes!!! Please!
And how to modify patterns for large chests!! I basically can’t find any bralettes that are under $50 in my size anymore.
This is so cute! It looks like something Kim Kardashian would sell for like $500.
Kimono, or should I say skims?
LOL TRUE!!!!! HEHE
I really love this. I mean I'm addicted to thrifted transformations as well but this is a great addition, esp for those of us who can't go out thrifting very often due to disability.
Also make you some matching socks and your look would be better than Yezzy’s lol

Aww thank you love!!! Yass sewing the sleeves that way is so easy haha especially if you're just making a tshirt :)
coolirpa I’m always amazed with your sleeves lol. I need more practice (can’t seem to get them to fit around my biceps well and the armholes is still tricky for me). I’m about to take a sleeve pattern and alter it to my size for a jacket I’m about to make. Want it to be puff sleeves so I hope I get it right lol
I'd wear that too. Comfy clothes is my lifestyle:)
SAME haha
I love your crazy / more out there dresses, but this is such a good idea!
I love making those too! But definitely need more that I can wear daily lol
Yeah, but we need more basics😉
@@coolirpa yess, I always sew these fancy or nice blouses, but have nowhere to wear them to😅😂
I make shorts from thrifted men’s t-shirts for my girls using a one piece pattern. Place the bottom hem of pattern on the bottom hem of T-shirt , and no need to hem the shorts!
Love these basics! You make the raglan sleeves look easy so I’m going to have to give this a try. Please make more of this type of tutorials. Thanks!
It honestly was so easy! I wanna make more for myself :)
I was feeling sad today and nothing else I've watched had helped - until you. I love these so much.
You make me think designing my own clothes is possible with the right kind of guidance and necessary tools. 😊 Love this video. I’m huge about tunic tees. They always look nicer on me than most other tops.
This is something I’ve been wanting to learn more of. Thanks April 😊
You're so welcome! Hope it can help :)
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing
Would you ever make a tutorial on what you do with your scrap fabric, or even fabric slivers that are too tiny to do anything with?
Affectionately known as "cabbage" 😂 bernadette banner did a whole video where she used it to wrap gifts haha
Annika Victoria has a few videos on scrap fabric projects that are really cute and easy.
Coolirpa has a video dedicated to recycling textiles. She also has a few videos that have projects that use very little fabric :) Like Jessie B said, Annika Victoria has a few videos too that I highly recommend watching! If you love smiling, I'd also suggest subscribing haha
I think I might make a rag doll one day 🤷🏽♀️
Also check out the designer zero waste Daniel!
You're really good at making patterns out of your clothes. You make it look so easy. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime.
A good way to calculate Neck bands is to do 80% of total measurements of neck opening on stretch fabric 👍🏻
Looks amazing!!!
I’ve decided to get back to sewing this year, and sewing is quite tiring for me due to my health, so your very clear instructions are perfect 👌🏻
Again another great tutorial!! You make it so simple and interesting. Thanks! I appreciate how much work goes into making this videos. 🤍🤍🤍
Awww thank youuuu!!! That means a lot cus honestly so much work goes into it lol :D Thank you!!!
I love the biker shorts. They are a great way to avoid rubbing your thighs together..
Deodorant can help with that (a nice 'natural' one)
yasss honestly It's so painful
I love that you're making everyday clothes too! As much as I totally loved your last video (I freaking loved it), I was like what occasions do you actually wear these?! I dont do anything fancy enough to wear such cute stuff lol
I love your tutorials. I am getting confident with my sewing machine and starting to experimenting making clothes from scratch. It's so hard! Your videos are very helpful and an excellent guide. Thank you!
I so regret it when i saw that sewing machine at a thrift shop and didn’t bought it or even ask for the price huhu my hands are itching to sew something
I hope you get a machine! you won't regret it :D
I have some stretchy knit fabric I didn’t know what to do with - and now I’m excited by it.
Yasss, Sunday project! Thrifted stretchy fabric in bright red thinking I'd love to make a comfy set for home. Thanks fo the tutorial!
We never have enough basics. This was simple and comfy.
Can’t wait to make mine! Thanks April!
Omg I love this, pls make more of these videos ❤️🙏🏻
I will 🥰💗
I have zero experience in sewing but just ordered my first one. so I’m gonna practice first on children clothes for my daughter. Can’t wait
Love this vid. Could easily spin this for a fancy summer "suit" set for the pool or for mens style or whatever. Great material too! Looks sooo cozy.
It is a treat to get new videos from you April. Loved the video as always.
Easy to make and it looks very comfortable. Thanks for the video.
Hi April!! Excellent vlog.. Great outcome of basics that you wear.... 💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Ive only just started learning to sew and its crazy to me how simple it is to MAKE something that would otherwise cost $30+ ....this is amazing! I cAn’t wait to get confident enough to make CLOTHES whaatttt amazing

Weow making clothes are just cool cuz it just personally fit yourself perfectly
Love the outcome, love this video . Would love to make numerous basics simular to these .. These are such a good design n shape ... The ragland sleeves make the top extra special ❣
Hey April, I do this all the time. Saves 💰 on patterns. Thanks for the video 😻
I really love your channel and that's the reason why I also create my channel because I love sewing and you inspired me every day .I hope I can improve my skills just like you and make other people pursue their dreams like me because you show as that nothing is impossible.

For neckbands, measure the opening and make the band 80% of the size of the opening :)
✨Thank you for making these videos April! 🌼 You are the one who inspired me to start sewing about 3 years ago & it has been such beautiful & liberating experience for me 💜 I appreciate you sharing your wonderful talent and creativity with the world ~ it means so much✨🌎✨

I know right?! 😊
Oh I love this set, and that frame behind you is cool.
When copying a stretchy garment, make sure to test it's stretchyness compared to the new fabric you are using. Put a ruler on the garment/fabric, hold it down at the start of the ruler, then at the 10cm mark (or another easily calculable number) grab and stretch the fabric. This applies to both horizontal and vertical stretch (test them both separately).
I really enjoy recycling things. Thanks. I learned a lot ! 😍😍😍
I was literally just discussing with myself how much stuff I would like to sew but would never wear personally!😎 Thank you!
That fabric looks so creamy... mmm. Love it.
These type of shorts are my life safer when wearing skirts and dresses. Nothing worse than having the thighs rubbing together while sweating.
And now I know how to make them! Thanks!
Omg i love this tutorial.im obsessed with bikers shorts with Tees
great opportunity to demonstrate using a twin needle! the final product was sooo cute!!!
I always want to use it but when I do something goes wrong! Need lots more practice
So I tried my hand at fixing sleeves for my bf because one of his shirts were gigantic on him. It wasn’t as bad as I thought but I was still super scared 😂. I think this type of shirt sleeve looks less intimidating for me though. 😁
You make it look easy!😂
This is really cute!! And I love the fit !
I have sewn those kind of shorts before and they are the best
Please, please: more of this! simple and beginers projects.
Always wanted to grow my sewing skills, but haven't gotten a sewing machine yet. Please continue to do more basic clothes! I'm still watching your videos! Haha.
Hi Ms. April. I'm really a fan of yours. 😊 i just began sewing and i find your vids so cool and inspiring. Hope you make more vids. 😊 Godbless hihi ❤

I never realized I've never seen raglan construction before. I will have to try it.
This is really helpful the top was a lot more simple than I thought It would be!

you're amazing, april! I admire you so much 💜
Neat! You helped make that so simple to understand! Looking forward to learning more from you! 💛💙🧡💜💚
Thank you for the video. I need to make these shorts to wear at home and also under my dresses.
Love it! Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial, these are my favourite kind of comfy clothes too! 😆

What a beautiful queen ^^ keep up the amazing work
Thank you, I'm definitely going to add this top to my summer wardrobe
I’ve been waiting for this video for such a long time thanks for making it. Great tutorial and great explanation!
Thank you for watching :)
I wait and watch every Saturday for your videos. Best part of my day! 😊
beth labecki 😭😭😭 awwww
So glad I found your channel been looking for equipment to start making clothes thankyou for so much information and clothing look amazing
I’d love to see more everyday looks!!
Those short look really comfy
I usually do a yoga waistband with no elastic...much more comfy! 😊
Very cute and relaxing especially during quarantine. Luv it.
Ok this outfit if perfect for lounging especially while social distancing
you make it look so easy...thank you x
Hey, if the shirt you made is slipping off the shoulders, make a skinny strap with the same fabric and attach it at the collar from one shoulder to the other behind your neck. It'll keep the neck from opening up too wide and not alter the look you're going for. Nice job, BTW! I'm a fan of your work 😊
It might be the best tracing video I've ever seen! just in time I was thinking myself some pairs of shorts to wear at home.
Would be an injustice not to comment on that wonderful raglan tip! I love love love raglan sleeves and would love to put in every kind of top hahaa
You’ve done a great job!!! I love this!
Can you make a video on a guide to sergers including what to use them for, how to use them, and what kinds there are? Thank you!
Oh gosh, I know so little about my serger haha! Once I feel more confident on how to use one I definitely will
sounds good!
Can’t wait to make these!!!
yay!!!
Thank you so much for the video. I love it. Keep it up.🥰
Thankyou for sharing april🙃
Lots of love💕
Thank you for watching :D
