Karen had a voice like no other. As a teen, I listened to her for hours on end. As for the production values, Richard gets the credit for that. The man is a musical genius.

Karen is a first class act. But her songs are the reflections of a just regular girl .. who happened to open her mouth while playing drums and make magic happen. Nice orchestra and background voices. She was a real beautiful brunette and gorgeous. 👸💙 eyes!!

Many people sang the song, deservedly so because it’s a beautiful song. But when she quiets everything down and speaks to us intimately, “I love you in a place where there’s no space and time,” she puts it up there in the firmament forever.

Will Never get tired of people discovering and reacting to Karen’s voice and talent. Realize Richard’s genius gets eclipsed a bit but I think he is happy the art they created together and her voice is still floating around the universe making people feel, smile, and cry at times. Love when the mic is so clear it picks up every intonation and phrasing choice of hers. Just wow. Thanks for choosing this and posting.

One of her finest vocal performances (which is saying a lot since there were so many) - the album version is longer because it has a great extended sax solo in the middle - next up try their version of THIS MASQUERADE...really good stuff!

First sung and written by Lean Russell(1971), then just over one year later Karen did this song. The contrast of their 2 voices couldnt be more, like night and day. Both amazing, but Karen will always be my favorite so I cant judge her against others.

A Leon Russell song written and recorded by him in 1970. Karen infuses the ballad with dripping emotion with her gorgeous voice. Her lower register is to die for, throbbing and rapturous.

There's an oldies medley on their Now & Then album that includes Skeeter Davis' "End Of The World", which KC ends on a baritone note. Both she and Richard knew her low register was her trump card. Karen's expression was "the money's in the basement"...

Karen was probably the best female singer I've ever heard, this is one of my favorite songs her words make you feel and this one always makes me cry, I truly missed her when she passed away at 33 from Anorexia Nervosa a horrible eating disease, it will always be a loss, she left her music behind for everyone to enjoy and I'm sure she's up there smiling.

Richard was supposed to be the musical genius in the family (and he is an amazing composer/arranger) but her mother especially was frustrated that Karen was stealing all the thunder because of THAT voice! She was a throw-away in the Carpenter family because she was the star, not Richard. She developed Anorexia Nervosa because of the stigma of being one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century and died from the disease on February 4, 1983. Her funeral was attended by every music legend of the time. RIP Karen Carpenter; your voice is missed to this day!

Hi Pat! Thanks for doing this one. I noticed you noticed when she went low...very sexy and beautiful, her low register! I have a comment on this you may not like, but I'm telling you this from the perspective of someone who has all the Carpenters music on original vinyl LPs, which I listen to through my Stax electrostatic headphones fed by my Sumiko moving-coil cartridge. It's like we're dancing and she's directly into my ear. My point is I'm not a RUclips Carpenter's fan; I grew up listening to them, when it was UNcool to like the Carpenters.
Please give a listen to the real version of this song. What on earth am I talking about?
I mention this because this is one of the two videos by them I really wish no one could access because they're chopped up. The other one is a "Close to You" video in which the end of the song is totally chopped off. In this song (which you said was short...but it really isn't), they totally cut out one of the most beautifully composed sax solos I've ever heard, and I'm a big jazz fanatic. I'm not talking flipping levers and whaling up and down, which is what a lot of mediocre sax players do; I'm talking something that's so well done it sounds like it was composed, not improvised. So good I used it as my transcription assignment for Jazz Class for my music degree.
People who don't know this song may roll their eyes, but this link is to the studio-album version, and you'll see why I wanted you to hear it. Just do it on your own; no need to react to it. Bob Messenger's solos were so beautifully put together: "A Song For You" - ruclips.net/video/tpeF-YLgTvg/видео.html

I was in my 30s when the Carpenters first got big (what was cool did not bother me as no one trusted anyone over 30 anyway). I belong to several record clubs and when a new record came I played it 2 time once to put in on my everything tape (10 in real to real) and once on a tape of just that performer. The first album I got of theirs was their first album got it as the free album for that month. Still have all my albums and they have only been played once on a teac phonograph. My songs (over 1,000 now) are now on two (one for backup do not want to have to get them from tape to thumb drives again it takes forever to code them so player in my car can sort them) 1 terabyte thumb drives in a WAV format (lossless) and a copy on my computer. I developed a deep platonic love for Karen Carpenter back then and it has not decreased.
