  • I will show you step by step how to make this delicious pie.
    Recipe:
    Butter Crust:
    1/2 cup unsalted butter (frozen)
    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    3 to 4 Tablespoons very cold water
    1. Butter should be cut into cubes and frozen.
    2. Combine flour, salt in a food processor or use a pastry cutter.
    3. Add frozen butter cubes and process.
    4. Add water to moisten dough. (dough will begin to clump)
    5. Form a 4-5-inch disk (wrap in plastic wrap) refrigerate for 30 mins. before rolling.
    6. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface.
    7. Carefully put dough onto your pie plate.
    8. Form dough to plate
    9. Fill with filling
    Filling:
    3 lbs. Pink Lady apples or Granny Smith apples
    1/3 cup granulated cane sugar
    2 Tablespoons of all-purpose flour
    1 Teaspoon lemon juice
    1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    Topping:
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon ginger
    1/4 cup unsalted butter
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Pare, core and thinly slice apples. Mix with granulated cane sugar, flour, lemon juice, lemon rind, and cinnamon. Place filling in pie shell. To make topping, combine dry ingredients. Cut in butter. Cover apple pie filling with topping. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F. and cover pie loosely with foil. Bake 45-55 minutes until apples are tender. Can remove foil the last 10 minutes of baking time to make crust browner.
    *Can use Pink Lady, Granny Smith, or Jonathan apples to make this pie. Or another variety that holds up well in a pie.
