    So glad he didn't skip the hard frustrating parts. Keeping it raw is keeping it real. I feel like a new sub-genre has been created..a motor mystery serial. Keep it coming man. Best wishes from Fiji.

    Battle plans last until the first shot is fired. Things never go according to plan; you have to just make the best of it. I have a 65 Mustang that I'm starting a complete rebuild on this spring. I hope to learn from what you do on your 68!

    I went through all this a decade ago so I'll try and chime in when memories pop up. Another SBF quirk is the distributor gear. I think that if your motor is in fact a 5.0 HO ('85-'00?) the dizzy should have a steel gear. If its a cast iron gear the cam gear will chew it up. Not good. Steel usually looks smooth and shiny, iron looks rough and bumpy and dull in color.

      @RidicULooseAutomotive  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hmmmm, now im wondering. When I ordered the MSD they got me one for a roller. I didn't actually inspect it too closely aside from lubing it. I'll have the dizzy out before I try to run it again so I'll double check!

      @Burnedtoastify 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@RidicULooseAutomotive The MSD website shows distributor part #8456 (86-93 5.0) has a steel gear. They also offer two options for the older 289/302, one with a steel gear (83521) and one with a cast gear (8352).

    I am digging the plan for sure. gonna be an epic build for sure. wish I was closer to help, but checking spark the right (not catching my LTD on fire) way is using an inline light or you can use a sparkle on a grounded surface as long as no gas is present.
    They are a bit different than the modern engines, but I am sure you'll knock it out of the park like always!

    Great video. Started following you 3 weeks ago as I like watching power tour exploits, especially with old cars. I’m a senior citizen 39 year GM engineering career retired last June as an Emissions Certification engineer. I got hired and started working as same 3 days later working now for SEMA Garage Detroit. Fun place fun job getting CARB Executive Orders for SEMA members and aftermarket content they desire to legally sell. I’m a huge fan of 60s cars. I was wondering what your vision is for the Stang. Very cool. I have a 67 Plymouth GTX 4 spd that I have had for 20 years. I have modified it to have a road race vibe although it’s a big car. It’s like what a NASCAR Plymouth would have been on the road race tracks back in the day complete with vinyl roof🤣. If your ever passing through Windsor/Detroit I would love to meet and give you a tour of SEMA Garage Detroit. 😊 Looking forward to next Felony vids and your journey to accomplish your vision!!!

    When you set the timing you're Rotor Button should point towards number one. Number one cylinder is on the passenger side. When you drop your distributor in you're a hundred and eighty degrees out. You had it pointed to number five.

    • @mrmoss149
      @mrmoss149 6 месяцев назад +2

    • @johnroof2663
      @johnroof2663 6 месяцев назад

      @mrmoss149 I have a 68 Mustang myself. And I built a 351 Windsor bored and stroked 414. But I blew it up running it too hard. It ate the cam.

    • @RidicULooseAutomotive
      @RidicULooseAutomotive  6 месяцев назад

      Im still confused by this because it was at TDC and I started my firing order where the location of the rotor was.

    • @steveshultz7818
      @steveshultz7818 6 месяцев назад +3

      Rotor needs to point to #1 plug wire on the cap. Not to the #1 piston. Also, early Mustangs use a pink resistor wire off the ignition switch. Unplug the pink wire and run a wire through the firewall to the coil for 12 volts. I've owned over 10 60's Fords. Know them well.

    • @johnroof2663
      @johnroof2663 6 месяцев назад

      @steveshultz7818 I've been messing around with Mustangs since I was a kid in the 70s. I have never had that problem. My first car was a 69 Mach1 with the 428, even though it was all in the trunk. LOL. And I've had quite a few classic Mustangs.

  • @boostedswinger
    @boostedswinger 6 месяцев назад

    You can clock a distributor so that the rotor is pointing wherever you want, so long as the firing order and the wiring arrangement on the cap match. Keep digging, you'll figure this out, that's how the rest of us learned. Except for some commentors on youtube, clearly they were born with a spark plug in their hand.

    • @RidicULooseAutomotive
      @RidicULooseAutomotive  6 месяцев назад

      See I keep thinking that too but then some folks say that the orientation of the gear on the diz matters. Vut that's how I have been timing it is just TDC and match the firing order where the rotor sits

    • @boostedswinger
      @boostedswinger 6 месяцев назад

      @@RidicULooseAutomotive
      My 340 was clocked to point at #1, I bought a ready to run MSD and with the vacuum advance pointing to the right spot, #1 was oriented to the firewall. I’m sure I could’ve pulled the drive gear and fiddled around with it, but I didn’t care. Just re-wired the plug wires and rolled with it.
      Ford’s are a different duck though. I hate to offer advice, but try to find a casting number on your block and decipher it to the year. Then confirm the firing order for your engine off that. Good luck, I’ll be waiting patiently for the next upload.

    • @boostedswinger
      @boostedswinger 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@RidicULooseAutomotive
      I should’ve also added, when I see backfiring through the carb, that’s a strong indication to me that timing is out, or firing order is messed up. My 340 ran once with a lope barely detectable with leads 5 and 7 crossed.

    • @RidicULooseAutomotive
      @RidicULooseAutomotive  6 месяцев назад

      @@boostedswinger the one thing we actually knew for sure is it's the later model HO firing order. We tried the classic SBF order and it wouldn't run. Swapped to the 1-3-7 and it cracked to life with ease.
