You see them as we see them after 500 Million years in the making. We found 5-6 pockets chasing an Anthraxolite seam. Great trip to Herkimer New York and looking forward to going back!

My grandparents took me here when I was like 6 or 7 years old I remember trying all day to find one of these quartz crystals with no luck later in the afternoon I was in the gift shop and saw a stone with a massive rock imbedded in it, I picked the rock up off the shelf and ran out the front door with it and ran back to our RV thinking I was going to be a rich man, I threw the rock on the couch and yelled at my grandpa you have to drive !!! Let’s get out of here..... they made me carry it back in the shop and apologize, the store owner gave me my own little stone to keep, Ahahah I would have forgot if it weren’t for this video and for my grandpa teaching me a lesson about stealing obviously

Oh my goodness me! We are in the UK and are coming to US for the first time in a couple of weeks and heading straight to Herkimer to do some mining at Ace of Diamonds. I am so excited. Have wanted to come there for so long. We only have a day there so do you have any tips for us? Any good spots, tools etc. SO EXCITED!! Thanks for sharing this with us. x

@@newhobby4397 im a friend Brazil is very rich in Minerals, but in Rio de Janeiro it is not! The states you have are far from my City and I can not stay Traveling! But the videos of stones I see from other states are more beautiful! I have a raw emerald pebble that I have gained from a gentleman many years ago and until now I have not been able to see if there is stoning! Thank you for responding, okay?

What is the difference between a herkimer diamond and a regular clear quartz crystal?
Herkimers are mostly double terminated and mostly clear like water. Some have inclusions, but the rest of the stone is clear. They are the hardest quartz on the Moshi scale. Other quartz crystals can be all different shaped. Google the difference you'll get better info there

How to distinguish between diamond and crystals....?
The video's a little blurry, shaky at times. But this is the way to mine properly. So much good material goes to waste because people are in a hurry to haul as much out as fast as possible.
If you were using jackhammers, or back-hoes to open these pockets, you'd destroy almost as much as you pulled out of the ground, and damage half of what was left.
Absolutely. We see a lot of smashed and broken ones from the commercial mining going on. They are careful but it's hard to avoid when using heavy equipment. It' not commercial for us so we enjoy taking our time :) Thanks for watching!

Of course it's Quartz. They are from Herkimer as mentioned, which appear similar to diamonds and how they got their name.

We have a bag full of beautiful herkimer diamonds most found when my husband found a pocket and was able to pull most of them out.Turned some into earrings and sister turned one or 2 into wands. But what market is there to sell these quartz to make money or is it just a money maker for those who have the mines to charge people to come dig these stones?

Thanks Thirst Fast! You won't regret going, amazing mining. For sure if you see the black Anthraxolite be sure to chase it and keep smashing rock, it leads to the good stuff! We got that tip from a guy who mines there almost every weekend for years... he has a basement full!

These are not Diamonds they are Quartz Crystals called Herkimer Diamonds.
Good job , watched both of your vids. about the Ace of Diamonds , and looks like the best stuff I have seen come out of there in 30 yrs. . I started going there back in 1975 . Where the tailings piles are in the video from 2017 , is where the wall was back in 1975 . Where the shop is in that same video is where the parking lot was . I took my children there in 1988 , I hope to take my grandkids there this summer . I have some very fond memories from there . Great video .

This may sound weird, but a Long handled ‘back scratcher’ (like a mini mini rake) would bring the gravel out easier then finger would.
Perhaps a bamboo one would be less like to scratch the crystals.

That's a really good idea actually, not weird at all! If I come across one of those I will pick up and add it to the tools. In hindsight I should just opened up the holes a bit more to make life easier but in the moment you focus on preserving more then ease of retrieval. Thanks for the tip, and watching!

Id just be careful up there, digging/mining has been shut down in the woods behind ace, not sure how often they do check ups
Not sure when you heard that, but last week was open with no issues. They also did the end of day check up and no problem.
@@RoughMarket Theres a bunch of no trespassing signs up / property markers past the stone wall since the beginning of this year, talked to multiple people who've said the land is actually the mine next doors , someone actually went next door and asked if they could dig back there and they said no.
Strange, no signs posted up there that we saw on the main path. There was also 20-30 people mining up there along side of us, as well as further up the hill. No mention from anyone in the shop paying mining fees either. If they have closed this area, there is no mention of it. When we do go again I'll find out more info. Thanks for the heads up.
