Does it work well with gaming? I have a gaming laptop with only 400 gb storage so I need more storage. Do you think this kingston xs1000 would work well?
Can it run logic pro and other plugins without any lag? I plan to buy a mac mini m4. I can only afford the 256gb model. So I need a good ssd to run my DAW and plugins.
The SSD comes with a type - C to type - A cable, if i use a Type -C to Type - C, the speeds should be better right ? I'm not talking about some fancy type - C 8k cable, just a basic Type - C to Type - C vs Type - A to Type - C, will the speeds be different ?
Not really. The speed doesn't come from the cable being type-c (which is a connector) but from the usb 3.2 Gen 2 protocol (there are some usb-c cables out there that don't support any kind of data transfer at all and can only charge devices!) As long as your cable and device both support that protocol, you will get the top speed regardless of whether your port or cable is type C or type A. The only way a c-c cable might speed things up for you is if your device(computer/phone) has the 3. Gen 2 protocol on jus the type C ports. Hope that clears up things for you.
@@AskDaveTaylor I'm using it and tried transferring a file over 300Gb at once. You can try to transfer the view, it's best to transfer the 500Gb file to see this phenomenon

How was it the transfer time when using it for a long time ? Does it slow down when it gets hot?
Would I need a superfast USB-C cable like you used to make use of the drive's speed? Or is the default cable fine as well?
The included cable should work great, but I'd still do some testing with a high-speed cable to ensure you're getting the best possible performance.
Thanks for this video!
Which cable are you using ? Can you share me the se detail of that cable please
It's a super cheap cable from Amazon ($4.99) but seems to work well. Good USB-C cables should have performance specs. Here's a link: amzn.to/3Zi9vya
can it be use in a iphone 15 pro to do pro res videos
Great video, easy to understand and just business. Thinking of buying one now when its black week.
What about using it with a USB C Male to USB C Male adapter, so it effectively becomes a thumb drive?
Sure, that should work. I have this in my computer bag now for out-of-office backups, so it's basically the use case you talk about.

same boat here

I was thinking the same thing. What if the cable uses Type-C to Type-C instead of Type-C to Type-A? I think it should be better
@@ryan5-l2p if we follow the path of logic, yes it should, but i am yet to recieve a replay from the creator of this video.

How does it compare to samsung t7?
Same question , unfortunately, no comparisons yet
Dave great video as always..I will have to.buy this usb drive. Items are so well priced these days. All for peace of mine with storage.
Oh no! What I am going to do with all my 12K 60fps family trip footage 😭
haha, if you're shooting 12K then you already have storage figured out! 🤣
😂🤣😂🤣 😜
This xs1000 will slow down to SATA 150mb/s if you copy files over 300Gb at once
What tests have you run to confirm this statement? Have you tried any of the disk speed test apps?
