    Finally, a tutorial that addresses the most important component of the loop, bat and ball contact angle. Great job. Wish it was a little more details in terms of building on these principles and talking about adjusting angle based on the degree of underspin. Cheers!

      Thank you :) And yeah I thought to talk about it, but to show on camera is quite hard. Was thinking using animations in the future, but in other sense I could do a special video just on that!!

    • @AANasseh
      @AANasseh Год назад

      @@DublinTableTennisClub Yes! You can keep it simple and Just use the paddle on a stationary ball... or you can use an iPad to draw the bat angle, direction, etc.. Most people don't understand the basics of contact point with the balll in different situations along with the bat face angle , trajectory angle, and bat speed. it's the subconscious calculation of these four factors that propels the ball forward and these four, on their own, are determined by reading the type, frequency, of the spin and speed of the incoming ball. Reading the character of the incoming ball and adjusting for these factors is the basis of consistency in the game.

    • @DublinTableTennisClub
      @DublinTableTennisClub  Год назад

      Higher pace rally and higher level the shots and movement becomes more of a habit and even as reactionary. There is just not enough time to analyse it, but rather your body reacting to it due to hours on hours of practice.
      That’s why you see sometimes when pro players still swing their arms as it’s just out of habit even though clearly it would miss the table from opponent.

    • @AANasseh
      @AANasseh Год назад

      @@DublinTableTennisClub I agree that the adjustments are all subconscious since all practice is about making the conscious unconscious and automatic. But you mentioned something that caught my eye in this video. You said that the more advanced players would mover from the 12 o'clock position for the loop to 11 and then 10 o'clock position. In order to close the racket face they will have to generate much more racket speed or the ball will hit the net, Correct? Is this how they get away with the closer racket face? You said their swing path doesn't change no matter what. They hit everything the same way. I feel if the vector of force being up and forward in combination with the racket face change the trajectory of the ball if the racket face is closed then there has to be a different swing path to make up for it... doesn't it? It's the same swing path as the forehand topspin?! It sounds counterintuitive to me. Could you please comment on that?

    • @DublinTableTennisClub
      @DublinTableTennisClub  3 года назад +1

      Hey :) Yeah I get what you mean and it's for sure a difficult response to make as each time it can be less or more spin on the ball than previous.
      Is the issue on your forehand or backhand? Or both?
      I could do a tutorial for you no problem, but a quick solution would be this.
      1.) Bend low with your knees and keep a close eye on the ball.
      2.) When the ball bounces you should have a somewhat specific distance from the ball and the racket. The distance is hard to measure for exact so easiest way is to be a full racket / or a racket and a half distance from the ball. (Hope that makes sense)
      - Because when the ball moves to you after its bounce the contact will be at a height of the nets white part / just above the net which then makes your return NOT so high back and with some speed even if you do not do anything besides leaving your racket to rebound the ball.
      3.) Make sure your bat angle is just a bit bit more open / wider than your technique angle. So do not apply the same angle for a block that you use to hit in the first place.
      This will give you the fastest and highest probable chances to return any ball of whatever spin rotation it has. Really hope this works :) If you still struggle then film yourself and email it to dublinttc@gmail.com and I will coach you from there :) Please I insist!!

    • @DublinTableTennisClub
      @DublinTableTennisClub  Год назад

      yeah in a nutshell that is what Pro players do my counter topspin the ball that comes in from the opponent each and every time.
      If you need to practice to receive serves then yeah focus on this "loop" effect, but if you need to focus to win rallies then focus a balance of both POWER and SPIN and not just spin :)
      Hope that makes sense!
      Let me know :)

    Question: Using my robot to practice this. As I increase the underspin, at some point with a heavy underspin ball, I find it impossible to keep my paddle at 12 O'Clock to return the ball back over the net. In other words, with heavy underspin, the ball always goes into the net. What should I do to get the ball over the net? I try to increase the speed of my stroke to lift the ball over the net, but no good. I open the paddle angle more, to about 1 O'clock (top of paddle tilted slightly away from the table) and that works. BUT, I feel that is an incorrect paddle angle. What to do?

    • @DublinTableTennisClub
      @DublinTableTennisClub  2 года назад +3

      Hi Tim :)
      So yeah robot is a perfect way to practice the one thing that you probably lack the most and do not take this in any offense, but it is your overall strength and sharpness of your follow through. Having rotation into swing and out with contact / follow through would help as well, but in most cases its the concept of the arm / body not yet be physically ready yet.
      You're right to adjust to it "1 o'clock" to make it work, but it just shows that you're lacking the physical ability. It could to some extent be your rubber as well if its worn out / old, but since you can somewhat consistently do it the more open racket way then it's not the rubber.
      Try this before you use robot again.
      -Get into position with your racket. Bend your knees, the non playing side shoulder rotates that it lines up with the net clip (so if you're right handed then left shoulder rotates to line up and it makes your body more open).
      -Arm dropped low / straight down to your right. Can line up and be behind your knee slightly, but not forwards.
      Then grip you racket with the three / as many fingers as you hold the actual blade and not the rubber. Gripping those main fingers tighter will also make your wrist bit tighter and steadier.
      Then do a few practice swings / follow through shots with no ball. And as you swing up your forearm is light and flexible with only the grip being tense and no other muscle, BUT as you ABOUT to reach the racket to your head / finish the follow through so about 80% through of the follow through. Tense up your bicep muscle only while trying to keep the forearm between the bicep and wrist still loose and flexible.
      --- What happens then is that your swing is free, light and flexible and upon contact with the ball you will have no issue of raising it up. Tensing up the bicep before you finish the follow through makes the speed and spin balance out and hit a counterattack against the ball. Have the robot on slow settings so the ball doesn't come to you that quickly so you can think and use these instructions.
      Apologies for the long reply, but I'm confident this will work. Film yourself doing 5-8 balls and email it and I can review deeper dublinttc@gmail.com

      to be fair, this type thing is difficult to advise without actually seeing your stroke. If you could upload video, you could get better feedback. reddit has good table tennis groups where plenty of people would offer advice, but again, there's no telling if it's good, applicable advice without seeing your stroke. good luck!

    Thanks a lot. I didn't not understand what you mean by "when you more side long spin, take the leg more back or the the racket hand more back" at 08:26..! What do you mean by" topspin form the side spin" at 09:16? Aren't we taking only about underspin? When is your hand more forward (just drop down and swing up) and when do you take your racket hand more back like behind your heel (laterally and longitudinaly) so that the movement ist more from backward to forward while still going upward with vertical angle at contact.. I don't understand this point and it's important. Thanks a lot lot for the help

    • @DublinTableTennisClub
      @DublinTableTennisClub  18 дней назад

      08:26 - Yeah I meant to say when you get this "side spin long serve" straight from the opponent then be reactive and rotate / have a bigger swing to be able to control and counter the serve. Gives your more timing for the contact and less likely to hit the edge.
      09:16 - That one I think email me with you trying to do the technique and I will review / coach you through there :) I think that would be more beneficent for you because I can help you with the issue directly. Honestly I do not mind and want to help you so please do not hesitate to make a short video of yourself and send it to dublinttc@gmail.com

      Hey Ramesh,

      The background music is because of the roadworks, echos and background sounds. It was loud and inconsistent sounds throughout my shoot. I have invested into a mic and re-located myself to a different venue for the future :)

    how to make accuracy to play top spin against top spin ball received form opponent side.

    • @DublinTableTennisClub
      @DublinTableTennisClub  2 года назад

      1.)You have to add some level of rotation first. That way you can counter it AND most importantly control the speed and spin of the opponent shot. Do not have a tense forearm so it is free and flexible to be used in your follow through to counter the spin. Grip stays the same for the racket. With a nice follow through finish you should be able to carry the ball over the net and onto the table.
      OR
      2.)If you struggle with that then OPEN your racket more on contact and focus on rotation and follow through to carry the ball over the net. With open angle of racket helps you contact it better, but your follow through must be smooth.

    • @DublinTableTennisClub
      @DublinTableTennisClub  Год назад

      No never 1/2 o clock because that means you over do the shot. Especially when your close to the table and you give all that extra arm movement?!! You will miss the table or worse not even have any decent consistency on the technique within the rally.
      Have to keep it sharp and compact with your movement. I get it if your like 5m away from the table that you could need the extra push, but again this where you body should be coming into the effect of power increase rather than arm.

    Explanation is good, but none of the videos show the movement of the ball after the ball is hit, nor is there any indication if the person serving is doing backspin or topspin. Somehow find most videos incomplete or done for convenience. Need more proof of stroke in different conditions.

      Yeah I get what you’re saying. Currently at this time and the time of filming we have major restrictions for indoor sports due to Covid - 19 in Ireland so this is the best that can happen within the tutorials.
      And for this exact video in theory it doesn’t matter what spin is on the ball as the technique counters it and adds topspin to the ball.
      But, for sure when possible I’ll get help / extra players to assist on my tutorials. For me personally I also believe the quality will be better 🔥

      HAHA deliberately? No it was the best decision due to the echo and major roadworks just right outside the building. This was and still is the best decision to do. You can see from my other videos that I have background music, but it is a lot lighter / smoother and sometimes non at all because the circumstances were different.

      Round 4.0! Let' go!!
      Your details are correct by technical point of view, but RARELY anyone ever has the standard physical abilities to even bend that low of 90 degree! If you're training to be PRO then it is a must need, but to coach the starting foundation of "loop" is not as important as other parts of the technique! There is a small debate for tall players as well as it differs for them like Samsanov / Wang Liqin had to make different approach.
      Same goes for left leg as then people forget to readjust AFTER the follow through. In person for sure should be talked about, but online video it can cause bad habits for players trying to connect the follow through shot / reaction.
      The ball contact / 7'o clock is spot on! That is a great tip and explanation. That one I wish I added yeah :)
      LOVE LOVE YOUR COMMENTS MATE!! PLEASE DO MORE and NEVER think you're waisting my time nor yours. You have provided great insight to all the videos we chatted about :)
