I love this repartee. So neat to hear their collective history. I enjoy Lyle’s loyalty to his old friends. Thanks for another visit from Austin, Leland!
Having used Kiwi polish on cowboy boots back in the early 70's I got a chuckle hearing how they named the band. Enjoyed hearing them play in yesterdays video. Good that they all kept in touch, I can't even locate guys I played with in the 70's. I think substance abuse got the best of most of them.
I hope that these guys keep on trucking I loved their music 🎶 🎵 that you posted last 🌙 🌉. Love the comrades breaking it all down the orgins of the name and the stories of knowing Lyle Lovett. Thank you for this post. Stay safe be safe Leland Sklar.
LEE I love that you brought LYLE in on this INTERVIEW that is such RESPECT to LYLE and to KIWI!!!!! Love Lyle knocking on the door GREAT touch!!!!! Hi Lyle!!!! Hi Kiwi!!!!! You guys were GREAT last night!!!!! Just be ready there is a girl band from MONGOLIA named "KIWI" so get your rights to the name in the U.S. if you have not!!!!!!! Call yourselves 'Kiwi the BOY band"!!!!!!
When Lyle referenced the coffee house at A&M it took me down memory lane. I saw Mance Lipscomb at the coffee house at Texas A&M one weekend, I believe in 1973, I think cover charge for students was around 2.75 per head and had a front row seat. Great experience and glad I went. He was a true bluesman and used his pocket knife as slide in his playing. Nice trip down memory lane. Love Lyle's account of the band and how he let them stay at his apartment.
Is that the same coffee house with A&M where him and REK used to hang out? It's a shame Rob's hanging it up this year going to focus more I guess on his Americana podcasting instead of making music
Lee, I was at the show last night at the Moody - all of it was so fantastic. As a longtime working musician though, my absolute favorite element was just watching you and Russ work together. It did my heart and soul a lot of good. Thank you.
Just Great 👍 I've been waiting for Lyle to show up in your videos, what a treat, so natural and down to earth. Kiwi are amazing!..an old new discovery and what a great story. Thanks Leland.
Thanks Leland for all these road trip videos and it all come to an end tonight ! Have a safe trip home and looking forward to seeing more videos from your home !
Sometimes kindness begets kindness. It’s so good to see that in action here - and of course talent. We’re proud of David Lloyd over here in Apalachicola, Florida!
Well from one Kiwi to you three guys, no apology needed for your choice of name . you were great and so cool that Leland showed us your set. you should bring your act down to NZ one day, just remember to bring that old dude on bass with you.
@@Ian-Steele Hi Ian, I think he might already be one, he's been here a couple of times way back plus he does all that stuff with Brett McKenzie. On that basis alone I'd grant him citizenship.
@@sceiron1 I have to agree with Lee being an honorary Kiwi. So many Kiwis get called Aussies here and then there is still that thing about pavlova. I have never really understood why they called Split Enz and Dragon and a few great other acts Aussies when they deserved to be recognised as Kiwis. Have to say The All Blacks are unbelievable and run all over our weird mob that call themselves The Wallabies.
@@steven_scattergood well the ABs didn't do too well tonight. first ever loss to the Pumas on home soil, sigh. I guess there's only one way to go from here and hopefully that's up. 🙄
Very cool video..Lyle is a smooth storyteller. Wild that these guys hadn’t played together in so many years. What a thoroughly entertaining group of gents, also great storytellers…..Thanks so much for all the effort you put into documenting this tour. Stay safe🖕
Thank you all for sharing this reminiscence and stories of past days leading to the present. Black KIWI and military go hand in hand, but who won the lid of cannabis?
This is great and they are such cool dudes and to have Lyle there is just amazing. Love the story of the bands name. I remember watching a movie once where the band was called ‘Soft Fruit’ so I half expected Kiwi Fruit to be in there somewhere. Great stuff brother and hi to all the Kiwis ‘across the ditch’ from Aus. 🖐👍😎
So awesome that Lyle did this for Kiwi. John Fannin is one of the nicest people in the Austin music scene and glad to see him playing again. Long live Kiwi!
The already great videos from the tour just keep getting better and better; now also with choreography (Lyle is there and knocks on the door...). Lyle, whom I didn't really know before, became really sympathetic to me because of his appearance in the videos; now I have to listen to his music a little more closely... Everybody loves Lyle and Lee ... and Brad and Yogi and and and ....

Hey Lee, we had so much fun being on tour with you, hate to see it end! But, I know you will be glad to get home. I think it would be so cool for you to post a video with the planning and logistics of how you get home, arrange for your gear to be shipped. The behind the scenes really fascinate me...
Saw the show right after this video was shot. Kiwi was outstanding. You guys should record your tracks, even in a home studio for your descendants to hear if nothing else.

My old man was a dab hand on the spoons, mum on the other hand was not impressed, ruined several sets in the cutlery drawer. 🤣🤣
