Thanks for watching!
That’s extremely kind of you thank you!!
hi mate my name is vinny and I've been trying to tattoo a couple of months now I've watched your channel all the way I am 52 years old and I've learnt quite a lot from you your advice is great just like to say thank u for vids
I’m glad the channel is helping you out. Thanks for watching!
As a tattooer from midwest America, who had a shotty apprenticeship under an abusive mentor….
Thank you for all of your actual mentoring over the years. You’ve helped fill the gaps in my training so much.
I’m glad the channel is helping you out. Thanks for watching!
Ive been tattooing for 50 years. listen to this guy hes so right .my hats off
to ya sir. missery loves company. BLACK HEART SKIN ART
Thank you!
You have know idea how grateful I am for this video. I am an apprentice and started doing tattoos. My tattoos aren't great yet but their not terrible either. I work with a girl who belittles me in front of clients she asks rude questions and her input is appreciated but man she brings me down. Im not easily embarrassed but I can tell she's really trying hard to get under my skin. She will go out into the waiting area and say rude stuff to my boss about the tattoo in front of customers. I draw well and can take people's ideas and put them on paper, she cannot really freehand anything. Ughh.. its a lot and I do everything I can to help her, I stencil her stuff I redraw the tattoos for her but she really hammers on me and scoffs in my face. I cant really defend myself without risk of being looked at as a drama starter. I think now after your video I'm just going to keep letting her look like a jerk and I'm going to focus my energy on making my tattoos look nice.
That’s a great attitude to have! Thanks for watching!
Let her fall on her own sword. Patience will take you far. Good luck!
Good choice Ashlee! You will gain much respect to the people who take a moment to see what your all about.
I hope you're still hanging in there with your apprenticeship and that the obviously insecure and jealous girl has had some kind of revelation about her bitterness. 😘💜
I really needed this, thank you. I just passed my test and got licensed last week, but I've kept comparing myself to artist who are so much better than me. I felt so defeated all weekend thinking I'll never get better. I want to get better SO BADLY. And I know I will! It's been so draining comparing my work to others. I need to learn to simply appreciate it instead. Thank you for all your videos, they've helped me so, so much.
I’m glad the channel is helping you out. Thanks for watching!
artests aint better there style is different yes. but i look at tattoos and never down them because the were taught different style i feel all art is beautiful. sounds corny but thats my take on it and this guys got alot of knowlege so your doing right listening. sorry to but in but felt i had to say something to ya.
"You can't argue with narcissists or with a brick" that was a good one🙂
Thanks for watching! 😁
This help, I just pick up the needle again after 14 years and a shady apprenticeship. I found this channel and it's helping me be a better artist and to keep going.
"Wolves don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep" that's an awesome phrase! Thank you for all your videos and help you've provided in tattooing!
Thanks for watching!
I thought I was the only one having issues with the "i am not good enough" thing but seeing the comments of fellow artists. I think it is good to know that we can have a support from fellow newbies sharing their struggles because I really love this art but as I continue on with my journey i felt like it is more of being a drag sometimes because of the pressure outside. I like to go back to the time that im so eagerbto learn and enjoy tattooing... Thank you Jono for sharing this channel with us😘😘😘😘
Thanks for your awesome comment!
Hello, I have been following this channel for several years. I even have the impression that we started this journey at a similar time. Today, I run a successful tattoo studio and conduct professional courses for beginner tattoo artists. When we finish the course, each of my students receives a link to this channel because it is extremely valuable and I learned a lot here
I felt and I needed this soo much I've been soo hard on myself lately even though i just started tattooing. I'm my own worst enemy and found myself comparing myself to a hyper realistic artist the other day whose been tattooing for 8 plus years but this video has made me seen things differently and I hope I can be kinder to myself from here on out. Thank you!
I don't know you Jono but I can definitely say that I like you. You have a great personality and a warm soul. The time you take to share your experience and give a full spectrum of various methods and your opinions on what you feel about them as well as your preferred methods and why is highly commendable. This video was great because you took the time to share your feelings and care for others in a very non-selfish way. I look forward to learning more from you other videos as well. Thank you for being a real passionate person. You are one of the few good people in this industry. Best wishes and continued success buddy.
Thank you! RUclips isn’t a hobby for me, it’s a genuine passion which takes up a huge part of my life and I absolutely love it. So comments like this make it even more worth it. Thanks for watching!
This video is absolutely brilliant. Thank you Jono. I opened my studio in February this year and have felt exactly the same things that you mention in your video. I’m just more and more determined to become a successful artist with a successful and popular studio.
Great attitude! Onwards and upwards!
Finally ripping the bandage off starting my journey, thank you for this video. It was just the reminder I needed.
Love all your videos, i have to admit ive been comparing my work as an apprentice to others that have been doing this for years and it does seem like you're staring at the top of a mountain and can be very depressing at times. Thank you for your sound advice and all the informative videos you share with us! Also congrats on your engagement!🎉🎉
hello, I subscribed to your channel a couple months ago, I have been tattooing for a little over 2 years and it has been quite a challenge... I learned to draw and tattoo almost at the same time.
Past year has been quite difficult, I have started from 0 several times, changes of city, bad economy and a bit of personal problems which has made me a little discouraged but your video just reminded me of something I had forgotten... thank you very much,
sorry my bad English… is not my mother language.
I’m glad the channel is helping you out. Keep pushing through! Thanks for watching!
I’ve been struggling with self-esteem with regards to my tattooing, I am nowhere near the level I want to be and have been feeling held back by those closest to me. I try to ignore it and shake it off but it’s difficult. So this video is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much.
Always move forwards and try to better your last job. The best competition is yourself. I find most of the people that try to drag you down are actually really envious and would love to have the talent and ambition to become a tattooist. Just smile and wave. Thanks for watching!
I'm a fellow tattooist and I want to say this video really helped me. I love your work and your a great teacher.
Thank you i really appreciate that!
Thank you. I know people can be toxic but as someone who's trying to learn and looking for help, sometimes it's so hard to put yourself out there only to get people being jerks.
Man, this is great advice. It applies to more than just tattooing. Thank you for such a good video. Such good insight
On it's face, I think you bring a ton of unique value to this industry. Who is on RUclips making an effort to help others improve?
I need to watch this at least once a day! Good stuff I love it!
This is helpful and much appreciated for everyone who gets stuck in their own heads. And tattooing that happens often
Such a great video and great advice! I’ve definitely gotten down on myself being new in the tattoo industry especially being a female FineLine tattoo artist. I loved this video, thanks Jono!🥰
Thanks for watching!
thanks sir. you're the best artist to give advice like this ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
Wow, thank you so much for saying those things. The bullying is a very real thing and can be detrimental to a person. It is very hard to ignore and just walk away from so your words really help give a person a go-to in their mind so they can actually smile, wave and move on. These people who bully like this clearly do not have enough good things to fill their day or they wouldn’t even have the time or energy to make such comments. So in a sense that is sad too.. another good reason to just smile, wave and let them do some possible reflecting. Do not dwell on comments guys! Do not let someone else choose your course in life. You are all amazing!
Jono Smith, thank you so much for your videos. You're so positive it helps us a lot !
Hey Brother, I just want you to know how much I love your channel! I have always had artistic ability and I just purchased my first tattoo machine, so I am definitely what you would call a novice. I came across your channel and I wanted to thank you for having such insightful and entertaining content. I will be playing your entire library as I practice on my self until I make it to the market to get some oranges!
Im glad the channel is helping you out. Thanks for such an awesome comment!! I wish you luck with it all!
I've very luckily come across your channel. I have dabbled in the world of tattoos for a while but never got serious. I feel like this is in fact what I want to do and felt discouraged at times because I did t quite know where to look for help. I found your videos and I am so glad I did. I have been taking notes and am feeling more and more confident. THANK YOU!!!!
I’m glad the channel is helping you out. Thanks for watching!
I use to watch your videos long time back, but I stopped and I stopped everything, what I want to is thank for his video man I really appreciate it I was about to quit but not anymore.
I’m glad this has helped you out. Stay focused and push through it!
I shall, keep it up bro you're the best
I know what it's like. Keep going and good luck.
@@bwildtattoo thank man and if you know the feeling, well you need luck too 😉 lol good luck man
Great motivation speech! You bring it to the point..
I am struggling a lot with techniques and sometimes I think I could never reach that level I would like to be some day.
One day I think my progress is moving forward and the next day nothing is working anymore.
The responsibility to make a good job on the client skin is huge and puts tons of weight on my back.. And I try to find a way to handle this and not breaking down under the pressure...
But in the end tattooing fascinate me so much that I just can't quit it.
Like you said, it's about long term, steadyness, and standing up after a failure, keep pushing forward..
Thank you so much!! I watched it twice and it felt good not to be alone with this struggle.. You are a great and unique guy.. Appreciate it! 🤗
Thank you for your awesome comment! I really appreciate that!
@@JonoSmithTattoo 💜
I took a break after a daughter of my client videoed and took pics constantly with criticism.
Ended up getting away from the stencil and screwing the piece into sadness, and complaints from client. just started back after a run of 5 yrs. Now knowing I'm the artist. Not a beginner taking bad advice... 😢-😊. I'm enjoying the videos and working as if I never had. Also living the challenge of my Valhalla Pen. Thanks for the support. 🙌🤘🙂
I needed that talk man I thank you and I'm watching your videos back to back, your awsome bro
Thank you i really appreciate that!
As an apprentice thank you for all the great vids! Even being an accomplished artist, tattooing can be a real animal to master. I look forward too more vids buddy. Keep up the great work!
Wow man that’s awesome way to start my Sunday tattoo session. Cheers !
Thanks for watching!
I’m really happy I came across this video, and your channel! I’m currently apprenticing, and my #1 biggest problem right now is comparing myself. Exactly like you said, it makes me feel like, what’s the point? I’ll never be that good, I don’t belong here, I should just give up. But that would be stupid, this is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do with my life! I greatly appreciate your insight and perspective. So thank you! :)
Youce got a great attitude. I wish you every success with your tattoo career. Thanks for watching!
In a way, we're all taught to compare ourselves and social media accelerates that massively. In my opinion, one has to be authentic in order to be excellent.
Knowing this is not enough, one has to feel it. And that's what this video did for me. It soothed a pain I've had since elementary school. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this awesome comment. I’m glad the channel is helping you out!
Really refreshing video, needed to hear some positivity today. Keep doin work
Thanks for watching!
This is one of my favourite video's bro. You have helped me so much on my tattoo journey. Thank you so much. 🙏
Thank you that means a lot to me 😁
I've been tattooing for 13 years now and everyone, noobs or pro, should take this advice to heart.
One thing I can share to everyone is this...
Never stop learning. Never see yourself hitting a wall. There's no wall. Keep walking.
Well said! Thanks for watching!
@@JonoSmithTattoo ... and thank you for your content.
Thanks so much for all of your videos . I have an especially hard time with this . I push through it . The videos are a lot of help . Thank you again and again . Forever pushing to reach my goals . Thanks for sharing your knowledge ❤️
Thanks for watching!
Thank you I definitely needed to hear this today. You're the bees knees! 🐝
Thanks for watching!
Great advice! We can apply this to any path in life! Thank you.
I'm an artist in different mediums oil paint, acrylic, and charcoal. I compared myself to my original teacher in the beginning. I thought I could never paint like him.
6 years of painting and 1,000 of hours I realized I was right. I could never paint like him because I'm not him.
10 years as an artist and I am happy with my abilities in those mediums.
Currently took on tattooing. I'm proud of my work. It isn't good, or great.
Its progress, a struggle. It's learning.
Thanks for your videos. They are helping. Your words are correct in the video.
Thabk you for your awesome comment!
I just wanted to comment to say that I really love your video's and your energy!
Thank you I really appreciate that 😀
You are an amazing artist! I checked out some of your stuff on Instagram. I really appreciate your words I needed them right now. Keep shining your light! Once I have everything mastered, I will teach people. I have been tattooing about a year. Thank you!
Thank you I really appreciate that!

Your absolutely correct & your analogy can be applied to almost any line of work. I love your channel & your approach on hoops & hurdles in this profession. Thanks for your encouragement!
I compare my lining with another artists who s been tattooing for years...and i have better lining and shading then most people and I m at beginning.. I was tattooing in 2007 few years but drugs made me quit and now being sober I can do what I like what I love and I do it better then most of people
I agree with you 100% I want to say I use to care what people think about my art and my skill of tattooing but now iv.learned to not care bc I know im not the best out there but I do know im giving it my all and one day I will be the best I can be and the Quote and the end really hit me so thank u
Sounds like you've got a great attitude towards tattooing and I'm sure you'll go far with this. Thanks for watching!

Thank you!
Thank you, your the man Jano.
Thanks for watching!
Good video man. I personally always have been taking the trash talkers as a motivation until I've closed their mouths with the work I do. It will be good changing few words on Tatcon this year. I've been very busy the last year. Have seen you in the lobby of the restaurant. If you go this year I'll come to your boot. Keep the good work up🙏
I’ll always make time for anyone that wants to come up for a chat. I’m not sure I’ll be at this year’s Tatcon due to other commitments but I’ll keep the channel updated with future conventions. Thanks for watching!
my man jono smith!
Your Avery good teacher you have explained it brilliantly thank you
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!!
The person bringing me down the most, is me. It's also the same person who lifts me back up again.
Being self critical is can be really good thing to push yourself. Thanks for watching!
Love all your videos!!! Helped me out alot! I've been tattooing about 6 months and you have really put myself at ease, I'm in the army and tattooing started as a hobby, but I'm hooked! Very proud of my work and haven't had any complaints of them, better every time, just started following you on Instagram and subscribed on you tube, thank you for all your videos and the advice, looking forward to the more videos, I still have a long way to go, especially fading colours into each other, keep going your smashing this!!!

Soo encouraging 🥲
i have fibromyalgia and a head injury that has caused me to have a tremor (oh, goodie) So i haven't painted in two years and thought What the ____. i'm so unhappy. i took up tattooing again , and thought what kind of designs could i managed with that random shake that might happen - so there will be no super clean lines and i only tat on my self or husband if he wants . i do nature things, vines etc and bind runes. work with what you have. Giving up is failure.
Thanks man!
I love your channel bro keep it up. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Thank you!
Great advice!
Thanks for watching!
Great Video💕
Thank you so much!! You'll be getting a shout out on the next upload!
Hey Jono I have learned a lot from your videos I really appreciate it, I have a really good question with all the reference pic's out there how do you go about taking a reference and make it your's.
I’ve video on this subject turning a skull into a custom design with photoshop
Very well said
Thanks for watching!
I can’t run a line without putting my finger right against the needle and my finger is against the skin and still touching the cartridge. Should I quit?
Thanks!
When I see a tattoo that isn’t great I always keep my mouth shut because you never know the person that is wearing it might see. If they are happy with it is all that matters.
Wise words. 👍
Thanks for watching!

confused can you make a video

problem like almost more than
6-7months🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Just the uplift I needed. I'm just under a year in an its been an emotional roller coaster. I've been holding down 2 jobs and got 3 kids. Did a geometric design with lots of straight lines and it didn't turn out great. I wanted to just give in. But then my last tattoo of the day turned out great. Should I keep practicing geometric or just refuse to do them?
I know you’ve had a rough time, speaking with you on the channel. You’re doing great mate. If I was you I’d carry on practicing until your weakness turns into a strength. Thanks for watching, always appreciated!
@@JonoSmithTattoo thanks again for the advice as always Jono!
I wouldnt say you are average tattoo artist, i would say you are alot above average. I look up to you alot as a apprentice, just a quick type from me ^.^ - love your videos
Thank you I really appreciate that!
Hey jono. My names Patrick. I've been taking for a couple months and I can't seem to get a saturated line I'm using a mile pike coil machine. Plus a red scorpion liner. Every tattoo that I've done looks faded no matter how many times I go over the lines I've made the needle doesn't even look like it's doing anything on the fake skin. I have to like go over it a thousand times and it still looks faded after I wipe off the skin. I know your prolly busy but I wanted to see your thoughts on my situation. Thanks brother
I meant tattooing not taking stupid swipe typing on my in phone
Hey, you’re in luck. My next upload should fix all your problems where I cover in depth everything you need to pull a strong line and show you where you’re going wrong. I’m hoping to have it edited and uploaded within the next week. Thanks for watching!
