Thanks for posting - I just did this repair in under 10 mins by cutting the wire to the old one and the new one and just splicing back together.. Eliminates tearing the trunk apart and all the fishing of the wires. Worked great!
That's what I did. "Hey dad, can we just disconnect the battery and splice the new one in?" dad: "bah, I bet it's only hot when locking or unlocking 'snip'."
RUclips literally has everything. My buddy borrowed my car and snapped the door off trying to pry it open. I loaned it to him with a full tank of gas and he was trying to top it off as a thank you
I have a 2021 Passat and the gas flap opens when the doors are locked or unlocked. Was told by the dealer and VW corporate in Virginia that they no longer have a locking gas flap. When the dealer took it apart, the actuator did not have any electrical connections! Looking into it further. Great video and I'm sure its helpful for others.
In this ase the rotating lock pin has been removed however if it sticks, I have a very simply fix once you understand what the issue is. The rotating shaft has an o- ring behind to prevent ingress of water to the electrical portion. After 5 years or so it gets dry and binds the shaft. Solution is simply, get a cotton bud and apply some brake fluid to the shaft then operate it in and out to lubricate the O-ring. Problem solved. First check that the central locking does work on the door (test)
Thank you for video. I have same issue with my Passat . I got a new part and planing to work on my car. Now I knew have to do it. Thanks allot. Keep posting some good videos about Passat. Cheers
@@saivardhan9821 I’m not being sarcastic here…back where it came from. It literally just hangs down through the opening that it came out of. I no longer have this car, otherwise I could go back in and check.
I have the same issue! But mine is saloon version. And it doesn't have the torx screw... Tried pulling it out can't. Can't find any articles about that issue so I figured to ask you. How do I get the fuel door out?
I am the least experienced automotive person…haha. Maybe try Advance Auto or AutoZone or O’Reilly? They might be able to at least give you an idea of how to get the fuel door out.
I already had two failures of these ridiculous devices. I opened the actuator and deleted the electric lock, which ends up binding and failing, so that the cap always functions manually. Problem solved permanently.
Yeah, I also got quoted over $200 to fix this on my 2013 Passat. I declined service and they still charged me $78 to open the stuck gas tank flap. 2 minutes of work. Bunch of thieves.
Hocine Lamoud No, they never showed me how it was done. They did tell me that they used a special tool to pry it open, however, which may or may not be bs.
I've been putting off doing this because I've figured out you can rapidly tap "unlock" on your key, and rapidly press the fuel door and it'll pop open!

Wait so they don’t have any electrical connections and they just open and close even if doors are locked or unlocked?
Thank you!!! I’ve searched a lot before find your video! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Do you take it out?
@@UrZNL No Ieave it in place and lubricate the rotating shaft
@@alechappy2070 I cleaned it a while ago. After that it started operating normally again so will lube it with some silicone! Thanks
It would be nice to see the unplugging of the old, and plugging of the new. Why did you leave that bit out ?
Couldn’t get the camera in the small, cramped space. I only had enough space to feel with my fingers.
I have the same Vichy problem.thanks for showing me how to get that repaired

No problem! Glad the video will help you out!
You saved my car. Thank you
thank you so much! I just fixed my fuel cap on my passat and your video helped me so much!
I took a trip to the junkyard paid only six bucks and did everything on my own
Where does that vent tube supposed to go?

@@tofman1182 Oh... That's okay. I have seen that it's connected to nowhere. It's just hanging.
Anyway, thanks for the video tutorial 😁.
Thank you for this video. I got same problem with 2016 Passat.

Hi, I am having the same issue but I couldn't get that how you reached the plug from inside the trunk. Could you explain it with a few words ?
Good question. I found it with a flashlight then fiddled with it blindly until I got it unplugged. Did the same to plug it back in.
Is this the same procedure for 2019 vw Jetta GLI ????
I honestly don’t know. You could walk through the steps and see if the 2019 Jetta is setup the same.
@@tofman1182 thanks for the quick response
Do you know if this works on a 2018 mk7.5 Golf ? I need help
I honestly don’t know. You could try it and see if anything is similar.
How did you open the cover? Did the actuator break when you Opened it ?
The actuator was broken when I bought the car. I used my library card to pry the cover open.
@@tofman1182 ok Thanks, mine got stuck and I had to pull, actuator was ok just needed some lube, used WD40 and seems to be working fine...
How can I reach you i have the Same problem
If you watch the video I’m certain you will be able to fix the problem yourself and save money.

I solved my problem permanently by trading in the car. 🤣

That's crazy!
Do you remember how they did open it up as mine just stuck closed same Passat 2013 TDI?

They just quoted be $200+parts for this job, this videos gonna save me $220.
I can’t even get mine open to see the actuator.
Use a credit card or something to wedge in there and pry the door open.
I used my library card. Haha
I was much lazier than you. I just cut the wires to the actuator and spliced the new one in.
but don't tell anybody...
🤣
