Thanks for the video! I actually live just a few blocks from there. The track itself has roughly 275,000 seats. On 500 race day the infield is packed as well. For the 100th running in 2016 the race actually sold out and the crowd was estimated to be over 350,000 people. Year in and year out, the Indy 500 is the largest single day sporting event in the world as far as spectators go. Love the videos!
There's a story about a girl living in a trailer park near a freeway underpass where a tire flew off a car after an accident and hit her while she was outside of her home and killed her. Very random and tragic.
I've been to the Indy 500. It took two years to get a ticket. I lost an uncle at a racetrack in California from a tire that flew off of a car. Thanks for the story on little Wilber. May he rest in peace.

Wilbur would have been my uncle. Lamont has done his research in depth, but, the official story is only partially true. Wilbur was in a tree in the backyard with his sister Lavonne (my grandmother) when she climbed down to get a drink of water. She turned to ask if he wanted a drink just in time to witness the tire hit him and throw him into the front yard. There was no $100k but a small settlement that allowed the family to move to SoCal around Signal Hill. Richard Brink would become a flag man at Ascot raceway. Bud was a war hero. Betty worked on the Apollo program. Lavonne was an extra on the Little Rascals. We called her Gubby. She was the last of the kids passing in 2013. She was my best friend and I still miss her everyday.
Lamont , this story was historically educational. I love learning about things about our America. I also strongly agree we need to take care of us & stop sending our money to other countries. Keep making these great videos
Very tragic story of Wilbur. An Indy race, a crash, a wheel and a kid selling at what my generation once called a lemonade stand. Very sad. Interesting about the house for women and I agree, we lost something along the way with how we spend our tax dollars. On another note, when I was a kid, my friend and I used to venture into the cemeteries and read headstones. Other people thought we were quite odd to do that, but I realize it isn't an odd thing to do at all.
We used to go with our great grandparents to the cemeteries on Armistice day (now called Memoriak Day) to lay flowers. We weren’t scared at all. We’d even have a picnic lunch in the cemetery.
@@rsmith8434 I think for me, my interest in them was probably because a girl we went to school with, younger than us, had died of leukemia. We had to school fundraising for her family, and she was buried in a local cemetery. I was always a bit creeped out by it too.

When I was 11 yo i was in the infield hospital, my dad worked there, at the Talladega race. Richard Pettys brother-in-law was killed in the pits by an air compressor that blew up. It was such a tragic accident. This was 1975? I think. They brought his body inside then Petty came in as he quit the race immediately. Such a dangerous sport not just for the drivers.
Amen brother, I spent my life taking care of my dad and the family farm after he suffered a traumatic brain injury and I was never able to get married and have a family so when I get old and can't take care of myself anymore I'll have to feed myself to the wolves so to speak. Always cool to see the Indianapolis stuff Lamont. Nice story and video. If your looking for Indianapolis stories there was a family of seven murdered in Indy I believe in the early 2000s. Not many people have made content on it. If you google seven slain I’m Indianapolis it will come up. A whole family three generations all killed. Super sad. But not a lot of people have even done anything on RUclips. I think I seen one video and it was just a verbal story. No location footage though. Just 160,000 people? Counting the infield, you can almost double that amount of people attending the Indianapolis 500. Factually, by attendance the Indianapolis 500 is the World's largest SINGLE DAY sporting event.
There was a somewhat similar tragedy during the 1987 Indy 500, when a loose tire from the car of Tony Bettenhausen was hit by the car of Roberto Guerrero (who would go on to finish second in the race), and hit and fatally injured a fan in the stands. Ironically, Guerrero nearly lost his life in a testing crash, when his own tire hit him in the head after he'd hit the wall. (While he did recover and race for many more years he was never the same after the crash.) And just last year we narrowly avoided another tragedy, when a tire off Kyle Kirkwood's car flew over the fence in turn two, narrowly missing the packed stands and hitting a car in the parking lot. Fortunately racing is a lot safer than it used to be, but there's a reason they have the fine print on the back of every ticket.
I was sitting in the K stand at turn 3. The tire went right over my head before hitting the man from Wisconsin standing up on the top row. The Speedway really dodged a Buillit with Kyle Kirkwood tire two years ago. Lamont did an excellent job on this video.
i was at pocono in 2015 when justin wilson was killed when a piece of the car of sage karem crash came off and hit wilson in the head helmet and died the next day so sad!
Hi again, Lamont. 1931. Wow. That was three years before my late Dad was born. One hundred thousand dollars in 1931 would've been a HUGE chunk of change. But, 110 MPH back then was scary fast. I don't follow it too closely but, seems I remember hearing those cars today rip around that track at something like nearly twice that speed? One thing I do know is that there have been quite a few fatalities at the Indianapolis Speedway.
Was recommended this video because I watch a lot of racing videos. As a native to Indiana, Crown Hill is one of my favorite cemeteries because of all the history of it, from racing to gangsters, to Disney to poets. Crown Hill has a lot. There are also some other gravesites in Indianapolis that are interesting for race fans including John Andretti and The Chevrolet Brothers.
I have lived in the Indpls area my entire life and had never heard that story. Thank you for sharing it with us. People that have homes in Speedway, rent their yards to vehicles to park the month of May, they can make a ton of money that way. Crown Hill Cemetery is so full of history. I would love to see you do a story on some of the graves there. Did you know that John Dillenger is buried there?
you were in my state!! this vid was interesting, because i've been to that amazing place, and i didn't know about that horrible accident. but you should check out the cemetary that john dillinger is buried at, that cemetary is huge!
Speedway Indiana is technically not in Indianapolis. It is a town by itself. Very interesting story. Crown Hill is also family owned. There are a lot of famous and infamous people buried there. I love all your stories.

Just 160,000 people? Counting the infield, you can almost double that amount of people attending the Indianapolis 500. Factually, by attendance the Indianapolis 500 is the World's largest SINGLE DAY sporting event.
Yes you have to put in a order for them to fix it 🦉🖐️ your cemetery 🪦 stone but it's always a good idea for you to check on One
England is the same ,help everyone but not our own 🇬🇧
Final destination
Hi again, Lamont. 1931. Wow. That was three years before my late Dad was born. One hundred thousand dollars in 1931 would've been a HUGE chunk of change. But, 110 MPH back then was scary fast. I don't follow it too closely but, seems I remember hearing those cars today rip around that track at something like nearly twice that speed? One thing I do know is that there have been quite a few fatalities at the Indianapolis Speedway.
Morning Lamont:
love your channel ❤❤❤

Talladega International Speedway is the southerners Race track, that hostess many different events.
My grandparents are buried at crown hill cemetery in wheat ridge Colorado😢
Thinking about making a body pillow, life size, Lamont look alike lol
Thank u .. for teaching me this never knew.

Definitely agree. One hand wash the other… ❤
I agree 👊
Speedway Indiana is technically not in Indianapolis. It is a town by itself. Very interesting story. Crown Hill is also family owned. There are a lot of famous and infamous people buried there. I love all your stories.
